Great property and location on the edge of Exmoor. Prefect for the whole family - 4 generations. Tracey was brilliant in terms of communicating with us, and confirming a few queries / Concerned we had prior to the stay.
Property was well equipped, everything and more in the kitchen etc. couldn’t fault comfort of beds etc.
Only issue was for anyone with mobility issues, although there was bedroom and amazing wet room downstairs - which was prefect - there were a few small steps in and out different rooms on the ground floor. Upstairs the two main bathrooms had 2/3 steep steps from the landing into them.
Overall an amazing property prefect for family celebrations.

This is our 3rd year coming over Easter. The house is great for a large party. There were 17 of us, children and adults and it worked extremely well. It is very well equipped and comfortable. Lovely outdoor spaces. The trampoline is a must for our kids. The toys and outdoor facilities and equipment could do with replacement and refurbishment.

We loved everything about this property. Gorgeous home, courtyard and gardens. Thank you so much for having us!

Our party consisted of 21 people ranging from 6 months to 79. All bedrooms were comfortable and warm and the teenagers slept in the bunk bed room and were happy with that. Well planned and functional kitchen with most gadgets we required and much crockery. Dining room excellent for evening suppers and living rooms very comfortable. Most bathrooms were excellent. Grounds and playthings for children both on lawn and courtyard were great. I would recommend more toys and games
for the under 8s.

A spacious house, very well equipped and with plenty to occupy folk of all ages. A few slight hiccups with plumbing and electrics, but ideal for large family parties.

Great place for 3 generations to gather. Despite torrential rain for the whole stay we were still able to enjoy the outdoor facilities of play barn, courtyard and table tennis barn. Highly reccommended

We really enjoyed our stay at Lowood. It was very exciting to spend time in the house. It felt like a mixture of a boutique hotel, rambling historic house, welcoming family home and activity holiday. Our party ranged from 2 1/2 twins, 10 year old, 2 teenagers, their parents, 80 year old grandma plus two dogs. It worked well for all of us. We particularly liked the enclosed courtyard where we had an 80th birthday party and lots of games of ping pong. We would thoroughly recommend the property. All processes were straightforward.
4.7
The property was rural and quiet, the layout was good but the furniture could do with some attention being quite musty when we arrived. Unable to use the courtyard due to hundreds of wasps feeding on the rotten dates from a tree needing some TLC. The family loved the week which makes it all good

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, perfect for a big family get together. It’s beautiful, quirky and has everything you need and more.

Bi-Annual Family Gathering
Family party of 18 rented this house for a week.
The host was very accommodating providing extra z-beds. The kitchen & dining room were first class as was the utility room with extra dishwasher; fridge/freezer; washing machines etc. The lounge and library furniture is starting to show it's age as is the outdoor furniture. The beds in all the bedrooms were very comfortable and we all got a good night's sleep. Would recommend this house to any large group.

The house was lovely for our multigenerational family holiday of 17! Kids loved getting lost in the house, we all adored eating out in the characterful courtyard and getting cosy by the fire! Great kitchen for cooking in and a large dinning table to accommodate us all! Tracy was a wonderful host and we very much hope to return!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay
This property was sooo much bigger than it looked in the pictures which was a bonus! All the rooms have a quirky different theme and the large patio garden with the lights added to the ambience. The house and kitchen were kitted out with all the essential bits and bobs, which were helpful for cooking for large groups. The hot water bottles and towels for guests were a lovely touch in a cold and windy February. Tracy was an excellent host, great communication and an easy check in! Thanks for having us :)

Lovely place for a family break
We came here with our family for the weekend. Tracy was very helpful and everything was as described. The house was great for everyone to get together, and there were lots of games for the children, including badminton, table tennis and a trampoline. The kitchen was lovely and big and the dining area was great too. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Grandpa's 80th birthday
We were a party of 20 plus from all over the country coming to celebrate a 80th birthday.
We all loved the location, the house itself and all the quirkiness it offered.
The only negative was on arrival the house felt stuffy and some rooms smelt a little stale. Some of the windows especially downstairs in the wet room didn't open which made the bathroom very damp.
Overall though this did not spoil our stay there and we all loved it especially the outdoor area... We had a lovely bbq and the kids lived the river and the trampoline.
We would definitely book again.
The Burr family.

A super house
We were a party of 12 plus a dog and had a most fantastic stay at Lowood. It's a lovely house with plenty of rooms, including a ping pong room; lovely gardens and a great location . Tracy a top class host. Lots to do in the area and close to several supermarkets and some great pubs for food!

80th birthday weekend!
A great time was had by everyone when we stayed at Lowood for my Mum’s 80th birthday. It met everyone’s needs, particularly my parents as my father struggles with stairs so they had the downstairs bedroom. The kitchen and dining room were excellent for preparing the meals and eating together. We found Lowood to be comfortable and quirky and a perfect base for our weekend, thank you so much!

Girls weekend
Absolutely fabulous weekend staying at Lowood. As a group of 18 girls the property was perfect. Especially the well equipped kitchen and dining room. The owner was very accommodating.

Quirky old place but very dusty
The house looked lovely in the pictures and had some fantastic reviews so we were really excited to have a family Christmas there together. Unfortunately it was not what we had thought it was going to be. The lounge when we first walked in smelt very strongly of old dog: so much so that it made me feel like I was going to be sick and the blanket over the sofa in the other sitting room smelt like it had been on a dog bed. We had been told that dogs were not allowed upstairs, but the "bling room " had definitely had a smelly dog/s in it.
Everywhere in the house felt tired and dusty and in need of love. Our room (the Gold room) was so dusty we had to keep the windows open constantly. By the third day, despite taking antihistamines, the dust had got too much and I spent all that night sneezing and wheezing. Our room had damp marks on the walls and patches of missing wall paper around the window.
Two other members of our party also got very affected by the dust mites in the house. In the Blue room, the couple sleeping there had complained about how uncomfortable the bed was (as well as dusty: she never normally gets affected but was wheezing every night) . When they moved to another room on the last night, they found that the old bed was held up by wooden blocks. The sofa bed downstairs was so uncomfortable that we had to drag another mattress down to remake it. Part of the reason we had chosen this place was because it had such good reviews about the beds!
There was not enough wood made available for the fire in the living room for the days that we stayed, even though we didn't light the dining room stove and used that wood as well. It cost alot of money and for the price paid, we expected more. We had been told that it would be decorated for Christmas and there was a tired old plastic tree in the corner and some tired decorations over the mantelpiece, but we had alot of work to do when we arrived to make it feel nice and festive.
Despite it all, we had fun together and the dining room was lovely for our meals. The kitchen was a good social space for us to prepare and cook together,I loved the larder and the new bath was great. If some real time and energy was put into the house it would be really nice. It has lovely quirks and has lots of potential. Unfortunately it wasn't worth the price charged for it and meant that our Christmas together was not the wonderful holiday we had hoped for.

Great for a big family gathering with children
Lowood was perfect for a big family gathering with 3 generations; 13 adults, 2 children, babies and dogs. The children loved playing in the garden and finding the Harry Potter cupboard under the stairs. Whilst all very clean and pleasant, some of the bathrooms and loos are a bit unusual and a few are a tricky for the less mobile. The kitchen was well equipped (with a few minor exceptions like water glasses) and ideal for cooking large family meals. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Amazing stay for a large family gathering
We had a brilliant time at Lowood, with 18 of us (12 adults, 6 kids) all able to gather extremely comfortably for a family holiday. It felt like a home away from home; liveable and cosy but really spacious, and with extra special parts for adults and kids alike (trampoline, huge outside dinner table and thrones, Harry Potter secrets, beautiful walks nearby and plentiful bedrooms). The beds were comfy and the kids adored the jungle room with all the toys and paintings. Beaches and castles were a really short drive away and so made days out with the whole family very easy. Tracy was also available by phone if we needed, and we are definitely considering coming back again. Thank you so much for having us!

80th birthday gathering
We had a wonderful time at Lowood cottage over the bank holiday weekend.
Ages ranged from 80- 6 months plus two dogs, the weather was wonderful which always helps but the house and garden absolutely made our weekend.
Every thing we could have needed was there , the beds were clean and comfortable.
The children loved the trampoline and the Harry Potter cupboard.
We would all highly recommended this property for a family gathering.

Wonderful house for family weekend away
We all loved Lowood especially the children. Perfect place for a relaxing weekend away. We did not feel the need to go anywhere else. There were indoor and outdoor games - in fact everything you could possibly need and the house was delightfully quirky and well equipped. Tracy was very helpful and dealt with our special requests. Excellent.

Wonderful house
The pictures and description dont do this house justice. We had such a wonderful weekend away in this gorgeous house. The hosts were helpful, the place was clean and well maintained, and there were lots of unexpected surprises throughout. Thank you!

Cozy, Comfy and Heavenly Beds!
Lowood is amazing! We booked this beautiful country house for a family get together and from the minute we walked in through the door we felt we had come home. The amazingly well equipped kitchen, the sumptuous sitting rooms, the heavenly beds, sheets, duvets and pillows, all worked together to make a magical stay. We all agreed that we had the best nights sleep we had ever had away from home. The house is so spacious, no one got in each others way, that is, when we actually found each other! We hardly saw our 5 grandchildren as there was so much to keep them occupied, especially watching out for the fairies in the beautiful and spellbinding grounds.
We would highly recommend this wonderful house in the enviable midst of gorgeous West Somerset, and just can’t wait to go back again. Thank you Tracy and John for making it possible.

Really enjoyed the house and it’s surroundings
Booking was easy, Tracey answered any queries quickly. The house was well equipped and really spacious, could easily accommodate 4 families. Massive garden and outdoor eating area. There are 2 decent pubs within a 10-15 min walk.

Fabulous house for a large family get together
We booked this property for a large family get together. The kitchen and dining room were perfect for entertaining, the beds were really comfy and the kids loved the large garden with a trampoline and table tennis (in an out building)
We had never been to Somerset before and what a great area to explore. We loved Dunster Castle with its amazing grounds, the beaches and the Exmoor National Park. The Tarr Steps is worth a visit and we had a nice lunch in the farm inn. We would definitely recommend this house.

Rustic, cosy and charm full house
Booked the property for the weekend for a family occasion. The property was perfect in size for the party of 14. The layout of the property was great with all the rooms being of a good size. Also pleasantly surprised at the warmth of the house given its large size. Lovely garden which allowed a lot of memorable photos to be taken. The kids loved exploring all the different parts of the property which contained lots of hidden gems - like the Harry Potter room under the stairs and all the other available games. The kitchen was well equipped and laid out with the dining room big enough to easily accommodate the whole party. Property was rustic which in turn provided a kind of homely look and feel. All in all, a fabulous, brilliant and memorable weekend.

Large country house in a small village.
We hired the house to accommodate a family who live in various countries as a way of getting together. It worked well. It is well equipped with things to see not too far away. Our favourite was a very safe family bike ride for all ages along the Tarka trail. Plus a visit to Dunster beach. Wine tasting while one adult looked after the children in the wine growers garden.

Large property with everything you need
