About this apartment rental
This 1940's, jewel of a rental allows you to escape the chaos of your days and rest inside a tandem, bungalow-style five-unit oasis that enters from a lushly landscaped courtyard where fresh air abundantly flows through the windows of every room. The serene setting creates a quiet, peaceful atmosphere for your travels.
Your bedroom hosts a queen sized bed lined with crisp, cotton linens, along with a fold-out sofa in the living room that also provides a large desk if working is necessary.
Recently remodeled, the kitchen is fully supplied and ready for you to add groceries and prepare meals to be enjoyed at the eat-in kitchen table. You have your choice of a bath or shower in the updated bathroom. Hardwood floors throughout and an on-site, coin operated laundry facility is available. No need for you to struggle with parking, you will have a coveted, dedicated off-street parking space! If you're a reader, you'll have to check out the Little Library located out front.
This guest unit is situated away from the street in a quiet residential area, centrally located on the charming Island of Alameda. Our Island was once known as "The Coney Island of the West" where wealthy vacationers from San Francisco would come to spend their summers on the beach. Now, well known for the fabulous views of The City from the long stretch of beach on the Bay, tree-lined streets with sidewalks and bike lanes, one of the largest collections of Victorian homes and other architectural masters, the USS Hornet air craft carrier from WWII, filming of many movies and headquarters of several well known companies. If you're lucky enough to visit during the 4th of July, we also have the longest parade in the country! Not to be missed is the fully restored Art Deco period theater downtown.
Perfectly situated in the San Francisco Bay, within a ten minute drive to the Oakland Airport, guests can easily walk to coffee shops, cafes, local groceries, shopping, and best of all; the beach is only a four-block walk away!
There are two ferry terminals that that transport you to San Francisco and other ports around the Bay including Pier 39, the SF Ferry Building, Sausalito, Larkspur, The Giants games, etc. We are located within a 10 minute drive from to Oakland Coliseum where you can catch an A's baseball game or concert.
There are about five steps leading into the unit, in case of mobility issues
One week minimum stay, No pets, No Smoking

This is very special. As you stay a week, you realize how all the things you have at home are here, and good quality too. It's beautiful, the seats outside are idyllic, I've used it just to reflect even for 5 minutes. This is a wonderful home and a very beautiful home as well, beautiful bath. kitchen, table at window... So restful for your holiday.

Enjoyed our stay very much. We have stayed in Alameda many years visiting children and grand children in the Bay area. This was the best!
Clean and spacious it was just a wonderful experience!
Hope to go back next year!

This is the third time in 2023 that we stayed about a week in Alameda. All three of the stays were good, but we give this our highest rating.
The property itself has a great location in the center of Alameda though closer to the east end (Park Street) than to the west end (Webster Street).
The street where the rental is located is very quiet, but only a short distance from Encinal Avenue, and its small business district with a market (Encinal Market) and a great coffeehouse (Blue Dot) with homemade baked goods and simple breakfasts.
From the vrbo it's about a one mile walk to Park Street with its excellent array of places to eat, drink and shop.
South Shore Center is a major shopping center nearby, with all of the necessaries including a splashy Safeway, Trader Joe's, and much more.
The lodging is cozy but more than adequate for two guests. It's nicely furnished with everything you will need. It's very quiet as is the street that it's on.
It's not a limitation, but be aware that if you have an automobile (vs an SUV or truck) you will need to park on the street. The parking space is a steep ramp from the street to the garage.
We tried, but our sedan scraped the sidewalk as it was partly on the street and its front end on the ramp. We didn't try further, and simply reversed back into the street and parked the car there.
We never had an issue finding close-by street parking There aren't any day-of-the-week or time of day restrictions.
You'll really like this vrbo!

We stayed at Betty's rental for 10 days over Thanksgiving while visiting family at Alameda. The location was convenient, safe and quiet. The apartment itself was very comfortable and clean. Online pictures and information are accurate. Hopefully we can stay here again the next time we travel to Alameda. As other people have mentioned, the parking spot was great!

We found the Garden Bungalow Apartment so charming. It was in a very peaceful neighborhood. It was super easy to get around the area from the apartment both by foot and by car.
The apartment was clean and very well equipped. It had everything we needed, including things like q-tips, cotton pads and a sewing kit. Betty has thought of everything. The bed and pillows were very comfortable.
We met some fellow travelers who were staying next door to us and enjoyed morning conversations with them.
There was coffee waiting to be brewed and delicious banana bread waiting for our arrival.
We can’t wait for our next visit.
Thank you, Betty.

This is a very nice small apartment in a very quiet Alameda neighborhood. We had lived on the same street 2 blocks from this place over 50 years ago and little has changed.

As others have said, this is a great property. It's located in a quiet, safe neighborhood and has a parking space. Alameda is a central location from which you can access all parts of the east bay. With the full kitchen you can prepare your own meals. One of the best aspects for me was that we lacked for nothing. I had forgotten to bring my flashlight. Bingo! there was a flashlight in the closet. Will make this my go-to place in the future.

This is the 2nd time we stayed in Betty Gladden's apartment. It is my favorite place to stay in Alameda! The apartment was updated since our last stay and contributed to the coziness and comfort of the stay-especially the sitting room. The neighborhood is very walkable, close to eating places and stores, even a beautiful school and Basilica around the corner. Betty is very accessible and available when needed. Only suggestion I have is to include an electric sweeper in the apartment. We were there for close to 3 weeks and I would have liked to run the sweeper a few times. Just me and my need to keep busy. Thank you!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were visiting family so we didn’t need to use all the facilities on offer but it is cosy and well equipped. There are some lovely restaurants within walking distance and excellent shops. The bay is a short walk away with views of San Francisco. We highly recommend it.

This rental is like a warm hug at the end of a long day. It's comfortable, well appointed, quiet and in a nice neighborhood. I stayed for 8 days and was very comfortable. Convenient location. Walkable to grocery stores. I happened to meet the owner, Betty, one day. Very sweet/kind woman. Her banana bread upon arrival was a welcomed gift as I arrived late. I have stayed at many VRBOs and this is one of my very favorites. Thank you Betty!

We had a wonderful stay at Betty:s. Everything was perfect. And the Banana bread..Awesome. one reason we chose Betty's is the opportunity to have parking. The whole place simply felt like home everytime we walked in the door. Quiet and safe neighborhood. We can DEFINETLY reccomend that you put this at the top of your list of Alemeda stays.
Thank you so much Betty for hosting! We would certainly stay again.

Sweet, lovely little apartment, beautifully appointed. We enjoyed our stay tremendously. The sofa bed is not really a viable 2nd bed for longer stays - thin mattress and could totally feel the bars through it. But it would be an absolutely perfect place for a couple. Betty was an outstanding host. My roommate had a major health crisis and we thought we would have to stay a day or more longer and she was super kind and very accommodating. I highly recommend her darling, peaceful place.

I thought that the fridge would be stocked up. However there was a nice banana loaf waiting for me in the kitchen which was unexpected. The location was peaceful and safe only 10 minutes walk to the bus stop and public transport links into Downtown San Francisco. All in all this stay exceeded my expectations. I am likely to stay there again.

The location is very convenient too. Betty is absolutely gracious and ever so thoughtful and helpful. It is so nice to have a place like this to stay in tine after time. I just hope we can get back to Alameda soon!!

The host of this property was wonderfully helpful when my other rental’s host was found to be operating illegally. I didn’t have a place to stay and this host was quick and accommodating and got me settled in within an hour. The apartment is quiet, private, safe, cozy with good landscaping and a great cross-breeze. All the amenities are as listed, clean and ready for use. Great place. Great host!

This is the second time that we have stayed at this VRBO (and we have, in fact, booked it again already for July!). The apartment is clean, comfy, cozy and offers the guests the feeling of being "home" . . . to me it's more than just a furnished rental. Betty is lovely and always so welcoming and accommodating. We look forward to our next stay there!!!
