About this cabin rental
NOTE: Yes, we are open for business.
Our cabins are located in the heart of the Finger Lakes, Yates County NY. Area shop and restaurant owners are abiding by Covid requirements while still providing a positive and safe experience for the vacationer. We have increased our cabin disinfection procedures and hope you’ll consider joining us soon to experience the beautiful scenery of this picturesque area for yourselves.
Now on to our cabin.
The "Green, Green Grass of Home" is a newly renovated rustic cabin that is similar to many cabins, cottages and homes in rural western NY. Its exterior siding is known as "Board and Batten". Board and Batten is a type of exterior siding or interior paneling that has alternating wide boards and narrow wooden strips, called "battens." The boards are usually (but not always) 1 foot wide. The boards may be placed horizontally or vertically.
What's unique about our Board and Batten is that the lumber is "Rough Cut" and comes from a local Amish saw mill and not from a big box store. You'll see this type of exterior siding all throughout NY and the northeast on homes and barns.
The interior of the cabin has new flooring throughout, either bamboo or vinyl. New lighting and a new kitchen counter top, along with new internal and external paint and a fresh new front and back deck for your sitting pleasure.
The cabin has two bedrooms (sleeps 2 each) and also a pull out couch which can sleep up to two (2) additional adults.
Once you step inside the cabin you'll see and feel "Country". There's pine ceilings and a custom made island for sitting around and discussing the days events or for just sipping coffee first thing in the morning. The island is adorned with drift wood and wooden limbs from our property behind the cabin, which gives the cabin a very rustic, and comfortable feeling of relaxation. This replaces a traditional kitchen table and chairs in the cabin.
The Green, Green Grass of Home is actually the last home on Emerson Road and just beyond it, the road becomes "Seasonal". What seasonal means is that from November 1st to April 1st of each year, the road beyond our cabin is not maintained by the township but the portion of the road to our cabin is maintained year round. Therefore, you'll find the location very peaceful, quite and relaxing.
Our cabins are accessible by all vehicles, not just trucks or SUV's. The road is gravel and can have ruts and holes in it during the spring and fall rainy season but anyone driving with normal care will not have an issue traveling to the cabin. It’s approximately 2 miles off the main road.
At night, feel free to sit around the fire ring and stare up at the millions of stars above you after hiking many of the local trails to see the beauty of our Finger Lakes region.
The location is very quite and private. If hear a noise, it’s probably one of a local farmers' tractor as they work on one of the many area fields getting them ready for the spring planting or the fall harvest.
Growing up on a farm literally just down the road with my parents, four sisters and brother, the only vacation our family ever went on was during winter recess from school. My grandparents were "Snow Birds" and they traveled to Florida every winter, so during the school break, my parents would load up the Kingswood Station Wagon and we'd head off to FL counting telephone poles and looking at the different license plates along the way, trying to find a license plate from each state.
It was a long 20 hour car ride with complaining kids who wanted to stop at "Reptile World" or at "South of the Border", so it was no wonder that on our way home from visiting my grandparents, as soon as we made it back in to NY my mom would start singing the song "The Green, Green Grass of Home". This country song originally was made popular by Porter Wagoner in 1965, when it reached No. 4 on the country charts. That same year, it was also sung by Bobby Bare and by Jerry Lee Lewis, who included it in his album Country Songs for City Folks (later re-issued as All Country). Next, Tom Jones learned the song from Lewis' version, and in 1966, he had a worldwide No. 1 hit with it.
Whenever we heard our mother start to sing that song, we knew we'd be home in an hour and whatever ruckus we were causing would stop and we'd look out the window quietly reflecting on the past several days and just waiting to get home to sleep in our own beds.

We went to the state parks to view waterfalls. Watkins Glen was our main stop. It was awesome. The property was perfect and within a decent distance to reach everything. We would definitely come again

Beautiful secluded cabin in a very quiet area.
Loved listening to the frogs at night and birds in the mornng. Very convenient to have free
Laundry on site. Avoid Bayhill road if possible especially if you have a small vehicle. Come in from the west side as per owners directions.

Beautiful, quiet location hidden away. It was perfect for my daughter my sister and me while we were visiting family. It was very clean and welcoming. I would make just a couple of suggestions, a new mattress is needed in the living room area to be able to use the sofa as sleeping space. The sofa is not able to use as a third bed as it is super thin and all you feel are the springs. My sister and I bunked up in the master queen. This was fine for us but might not be fine for all. It would be nice if there was a small coffee table or footrest in the living room for watching tv in the chair or on the couch. Not a major deal.
The kitchen was nicely appointed and we made breakfast one morning. It has everything you need to make a quick meal. We did not use the grill on the patio but it looked like a nice one. The bathroom had great water pressure for showers! Nothing I hate more than going somewhere and barely being able to wash the soap out of my hair.
We got up one morning an walked the road down toward the T and saw a field full of turkeys. That was fun. A nice little walk. There was a deer across the road just hanging out :) It is really beautiful up on the hill there.
I also left my passport in the dresser and contacted Gary right away who was super quick to respond and help me out by getting it to my relative so she can send it back to me. I really appreciate that as it's a huge pain to get it replaced. I would stay again.

Lovely cabin out in nature. I really enjoyed being able to hear frogs and other wildlife as well as truly being able to see the stars at night. My favorite part of my stay was sitting on the back porch with my friend, relaxing, and being able to take in the beauty around us.

The listing is exactly as advertised. This home is located in a beautiful city and comes with all your basic needs. The owners provide more than enough detail to help you navigate the property and the area. They are also very responsive and helpful. I did not have any issues during my stay and expect to return again next year. The kids (6, 9, 11, 12) had a great time as well. There was plenty of yard for them to run around in and throw the ball. They also really enjoyed the fire pit and a nightly movie. My friend even asked for information on the listing as she also plans to return.

We stayed here for 2 days with our family and a friend’s family. The property was deep inside from the main roads. However it was very private, quiet and we had a great time staying here. Everything we needed for our stay was available, from kitchen appliances, utensils to toiletries. The hosts were very prompt in responses too when we had questions. Really a well maintained house amongst nature and hope we can visit again!

Cabin was very nice. Remote location if you do not wish to be bothered. Host is responsive. Guest book could use minor updating for the restaurant section.

Great little cabin in a great area. Clean, quiet, cozy. It was a really good value and exactly what I needed. I will stay here again, or perhaps at another one of their properties.

Mattress was soft.
Grass was very long and therefore our feet got soaked after the rain.
Spacious cabin. The kitchen and bathroom were highlights.
Overall we were pleased.

Property was clean, located in a quiet rural area, property met our needs.

We had a great ladies weekend. We enjoyed the quiet wilderness feel of the location. The cabin was cozy and comfy.
The only drawback of the cabin was that there is not a walkway/sidewalk from the driveway to the cabin. It has been raining all day and our feet and pants were wet, and we brought grass into the cabin.
Overall, we enjoyed our time there and would definitely stay there again.

Enjoyed the solitude and quite of this cabin. It is just what my wife and I needed to escape the everyday hustle bustle. The cabin is off the beaten path but no more than an hour's drive to the tips of Seneca lake and beyond. Perfect place to take in the sounds of nature and relax.

All amenities and descriptions given by host were 100% accurate! Internet/Wi-Fi was incredibly faster than what was expected. From the moment we arrived to the check out process all instructions and feed back from host were easy to follow and extremely helpful. Overall we had an amazing private getaway, most relaxing trip we’ve had in a long time!

The cabin was lovely, and the area was so nice and quiet! Wonderful fireflies across the field at night with a picnic table and fire pit to sit and enjoy it all. Highly recommended!

Property as advertised, clean and well maintained. Sadly lacking in amenities. I think there were six towels for 3 people for a week. Had to purchase fry pan. The one available had the coating peeling off.

We enjoyed staying in a peaceful cabin in wine country. The cabin was so quiet and we enjoyed the sunsets each evening. Cabin is well equipped, very clean and very nice. Beds were comfy and had no issues at all. We will definitely visit again.

The house was on a dirt road nice secluded and quiet, there were many areas close by for hiking and biking, the BBQ seemed to be low on gas, but managed the situation ok. Would definitely stay again

Absolutely loved our stay at this lovely cabin, so private and tranquil. Comfort was the best! Has everything you need, not to mention the star gazing at night, saw 3 shooting stars for our anniversary! Truly a place to be, will be back!!!

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. So peaceful and amazing view in the mornings.

My godbrother and I rented this cabin for my birthday. The cabin was lovely, and immaculate. I found that the internet was quite fast, allowing me to stay in contact with my family while I was there. Both of the bedrooms were quite comfortable, as was the couch. We didn't get to spend much time outside since it was raining, but the yard looked beautiful.
One of the best parts of the property for me was walking out side and getting to see crayfish walking across the lawn. I have a creek in my back yard that has crayfish in it, but I had never seen them out of the water.
