Chief Lake is a part of the Chippewa Flowage. The lake has two bar/restaurants on it that you can drive your boat too. One of my favorite things about Chief Lake is the clear water and the fact that much of the shoreline is not developed with houses (Only 8% is developed) so you see lots of wildlife from Bears and deer to Eagles and Loons. The Chippewa Flowage is known for its excellent fishing for musky, walleye, crappie, small-mouth and pan-fish 17,000 acres of water, 140+ islands, 200+ miles of shoreline
Your rental includes your own private fiberglass dock to use during your stay. This dock is long and has room for multiple boats. The parking area also has room for plenty of cars and trucks with trailers. The shoreline goes from grass to sandy bottom and is excellent for swimming. The depth at the end of the dock is around 8 feet and the lot is pretty flat with a paved sidewalk all the way to the dock so not steps to deal with hauling your gear up and down.
We also have a pontoon available that can be rented with your stay for an extra charge. Please contact Manage Cabins to reserve the pontoon for your stay.
For those guests looking for a break from nature, Hayward is about 15 minutes away. Hayward has a Grocery and a Super Walmart as well as all sorts of things to do from mini golf and go carts to a Casino and the National Fishing Museum. There are quite a few golf course around as well. Hayward is also home to many unique shops and restaurants.
Seasons -From Mid June through July and August we only accept bookings for full weeks (7 Nights) from Saturday to Saturday.
Birkie Weekend requires a 4-night minimum
September and May & the first two weeks in June require a 3-night minimum stay as do Christmas and New Year Holidays.
Pontoon Rental Available- Ask us about having it ready for you at the dock when you arrive.
A Note About Dogs:
We LOVE dogs and we want our guests to enjoy their vacation with the whole family, including the furry members :-) Up to two dogs are allowed at this cabin with prior approval and an additional fee. That being said, please be mindful of whether our home is appropriate for your dog(s).
We may not be the vacation rental for you if your dog(s):
*Consider barking to be a favorite pastime;
*Chew things other than bones;
*Like to visit the neighbors unsupervised (we do not have a fenced-in yard), and/or;
*Use the house as a bathroom.
We ask that your dogs be supervised when at the cabin and crated when you are not (One large crate is available at the cabin). Also, it should not need to be said (but unfortunately needs to be, as we have had guests leave enough surprises for us), but PLEASE pick up after your dogs!! It is NOT the responsibility of our cleaners.

Great location.

The location of the cabin was perfect for our family. Walking to the lake from the house was easy. We also rented out the pontoon boat. We had a great time at the cabin. A few things I would suggest would be for the owners to clean the property better. Some of the screen doors were covered in cobwebs. They should also let the renters know of anyone coming to the property. We had a lawnmower guy show up and we had to clear off the grass for him. This was very inconvenient because we brought quite a few paddle boards and kayaks. We also had someone come spray the weeds which made us uncomfortable with kids running around. Other than these small issues we really enjoyed the cabin. There is a ton of rooms and beds. The fishing from the dock was better than expected. Everyone in our family enjoyed their stays.

Great house to accommodate a large group. We had 14 people and there was plenty of room for all. Nice to have 2 kitchens. The pontoon rental was perfect to cruise Chief Lake and some of the surrounding lakes on the chain. The sandy beach was a plus. My family wants to reserve this property for next year. The owner and management team were very easy to work with and very excessible all week.

This is a lovely property with plenty of room for the extended family. (We had 11 and 5 cancelled on us.) Not too far from Hayward. Beautiful location. The owners were very responsive and helpful. Thanks!

The size of the rental was perfect for ten of us. Having our own rooms was a huge plus.

Had a wonderful week spent with family. First part of the week the weather was beautiful. Last part not so much. Still had a great time. Having all the bedrooms was wonderful. I would definitely recommend staying here.

House fit our group perfectly. No issues at all. Nice quiet area.

The location was wonderful, the house was well equipped and comfortable. It really could use a deep clean, paint, drywall patching (bathrooms have water damage on ceilings), trim put back on (missing from a few doorways, exposed drywall and studs), door handles fixed (bedroom latches loose) (sliding patio doors don't all work) / replaced (bathroom missing latch for pocket door), no toilet paper holder in one bathroom (holes in the drywall where it had been) caulk redone in bathrooms (moldy and peeling), couch and recliner have broken arms, clothes washer door sensor broken (had to keep detergent bottle on it to keep it running). No dishwasher in lower kitchen, upper had to be run multiple times to rinse the soap off (dishes were pre-rinsed, not blocking soap door). The microwave door in the lower kitchen has a hole in it. There is also a rusty old pier section upside down along the shore. Overall, we enjoyed our time there, but it was disappointing to see all the little things that go unattended. I doubt if the owners have put a dime into the upkeep since purchasing in 2020.

Our stay at this cabinet was wonderful everything was clean. Owner was very easy to deal with and Cabin was very well stocked. We definitely would like to go back.

The house was awesome for our large group. Plenty of space, beds for everyone, and the extra kitchen/refrigerator was awesome. Great option for a week at the lake!

Our family of 15 had the best time at Buckhorn . The house has plenty of bedrooms & bathrooms for all. Beautiful spot on Chief lake. We brought our own pontoon & fishing boat, standup boards, kayak & badminton.
The loons calling and sunsets were magical. Very quiet here
Not to far from Hayward for some more fun activities.
Would stay here again.

Property managers were very easy to work with. Very responsive. Enjoyed the layout of the cabin. Fishing was good and the lake was beautiful. Will definitely be back again!

We had a great stay, the cabin is huge and had plenty of room for our group. Beds were comfortable. The flooring and kitchen are worn and need updating but if you need lots of bedrooms & bathrooms and don’t need upscale accommodations this is a good option.

This is the 3rd time we have stayed in the house and really enjoy it. It has enough bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone! It is nicely located to Hayward! We enjoy the home every time we stay here!

If you're looking for a nice cabin getaway with a large group, this place will suit you perfectly.

Overall our stay was enjoyable, we had lots of room to hang out and good sleeping spaces for all. Patio furniture and deck was great, as was view of the lake. Nice boat rides to a couple of local bar/eateries. The only downside was terrible odor from the dumpster at the end of the driveway, fortunately the sanitation truck came the second day of our stay. Also it was apparent that this is a pet friendly place, the carpet in the main living area was stained in a number of spots and there was an odor in the basement that did not keep us from using the space. Overall we were happy with our stay and would return!

We enjoyed cooking in a well-stocked kitchen. The table was huge and the 7 of us had plenty of room to sit together in the living room area because of all of the leather couches and chairs. It was wonderful to be able to cook meals and still talk to everyone. We had a fire in the outside fire pit with the added bonus of a beautiful sunset.

We had such a nice experience staying at this beautiful cabin. This home is huge and as stated fits 19 people comfortably. The house was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed for our stay. We rented the pontoon for the duration of our trip and that was a highlight of our experience. We also loved gathering as a whole family in the living room and dining room for dinners together at the large table.
Would definitely recommend this stay for large groups.
Thank you for a great experience!

while the stay was nice it was mainly because of the people that went. The actual property has noticeable damage and you can see that this place isn't taken care of. Also if you expect the listing to be accurate, that may not be the case and they refused to give a refund for the things missing from the listing.

Amazing large snowmobiling group long weekend!!
Wow, what a great house and location! We had a large snowmobiling group with quite a few trucks and trailers and there was room for all! Our host Jon was extremely helpful and accommodating to our needs! The house is set up very nicely for large groups, with two separate living rooms on two different levels. The bedrooms are spread out on each of the three floors, so everyone can find their sweet spot for their stay :) I loved that we were able to park or snowmobiles in the front yard right outside the lower level doors and large windows and were able to keep an eye on them as well as able to enter the lower level and have room for everyone’s gear down there right as you enter. Also, we had very easy access to get to the trail which was and very short, easy straight shot across the lake.

Spacious house with plenty of rooms for a group of friends to stay in one house with room to spread out and everyone had their own bed.

Great cabin for large group of snowmobilers
This cabin was perfect for our group of 19 snowmobilers. Plenty of room for all of us and a great location to many trails. Would definitely rent again!

Overall a good stay - we spent a long weekend here with 6 adults, 2 children and our dogs. There is plenty of space for everyone. If everyone is connected to the WiFi with multiple devices (phone, tablet/laptop, TV), then you'll likely run into streaming issues with the TV. It ended up working once we disconnected a few devices. We also cooked every meal and found the kitchen supplies to be OK - if you need anything specific, it's best to bring your own or ask ahead of time (i.e., a good can opener, a garlic press, etc.). We had a good time at the cabin and enjoyed our stay there!
