About this house rental
Cozy Guest house located in the highly sought after Rattlesnake Neighborhood. Locals and others from afar love to visit this tranquil neighborhood which offers a great escape with so many vacation options. Please don't expect to see rattlesnakes, but perhaps deer and an occasional black bear! We fell in love with this property because of the history and location. This is a 100 year old estate that was one of the first houses in the middle Rattlesnake. The Guest house has its own little history! The family who lived here for 70 years operated a daycare and after-school service in the guest house which was converted to a cozy abode. There are many local residents who remember attending this little daycare which operated for nearly 40 years.
Today we love this location because of the nostalgic history and allure of the valley. In the summer enjoy the cool night breeze and the rustling leaves in the trees. You might even say you feel like you are in a tree house!
You can expect a cozy and updated experience with all the amenities of a home away from home. Sleep 5 comfortably in the beds provided. Use the full kitchen to cook your meals or escape to a local favorite restaurant! There are two bathrooms in the house, one is a full bath and the other is a 1/2 bath. There is also a cozy outdoor area for coffee in the morning or a fire in the fire pit!
Other reasons to pick this spot include the location to the University of Montana.
Walking distance to University of Montana (1.6 miles). Great access to hiking, mountain biking, Ten Spoon Winery, Rattlesnake Cafe, Rattlesnake Creek, Greenough Park, Pineview Park and just 5 minutes to downtown Missoula.
From our yard you might see Hang-gliders hovering around MT. Jumbo. The Rattlesnake is 32,000-acres of wilderness and 22,000-acres of national recreation on a city bus route.

It was the perfect place to rest between enjoying outdoor adventures in Rattlesnake National Rec Area and Blue Mountain, concerts at KettleHouse Amphitheater and nice restaurants in downtown Missoula.

The cottage was roomy but cozy and the location is perfect to enjoy all Western Montana has to offer.
Our hostess Shannon could not have been nicer. Great communication throughout.
We lost power for a couple of days due to the storm that devastated parts of Missoula. It looked like power may be out for much longer. Shannon graciously offered to give us a credit or let us out of the agreement. We wouldn’t hear of it.
Hated leaving this little peace of Heaven.
Thank you Shannon and family.

Truly a quaint stay. The host was friendly. The cabin was cozy. The beds and pillows were fantastically comfortable. The only complaint came from my children when it was time to leave.

We loved this VRBO for our small group. It was clean and easy to access. Property owner was great and we will for sure go back. Easy access to everything else and quiet and out of the way too!

The cottage is wonderfully stocked with kitchen items and plenty of towels and a fantastic ice machine. Roomy living space. Location was perfect for our stay. Definitely will book this cottage on our next stay in this area.

The home was secluded, which was wonderful because we couldn't hear any traffic or neighbors. But it was, initially, a little hard to find because it set behind another home, and it was late at night when we arrived. But Shannon directed into the place and is a very sweet lady. It was a lovely home with a full kitchen and dining area. My bed was so comfortable! I loved having two bathrooms too. Worked very well for us.

We had a great time. The location was perfect for us, close to our family, trails, and the rattlesnake cafe! It worked really well for the 4 of us, and had room for my brother when he decided to stay one of the nights. Would definitely stay again!

This was a perfect place for our group to enjoy town as well as get out quickly to hit the river

Our stay was very comfortable! Great location and wonderful host. We had a shower issue and Shannon was on top of it but unable to get cooperation from the professionals, therefore she graciously opened her house to us until the issue was fixed. She also credited the two days we were without the shower. We moved our daughter to the university there so we hope the house is available for all our return visits.

We enjoyed our stay at this guesthouse. The Rattlesnake location is convenient to all that Missoula has to offer while, at the same time, feeling like a getaway. The host, Shannon, is welcoming and very responsive but not at all intrusive. We felt very comfortable here.

Delightful place. Very relaxing. Super convenient to the University, the Rattlesnake trails, downtown and interstate. Will definitely check availability when I’m in my favorite town again! Thank you!

Great location convenient to town. Really enjoyed the outdoor space. We were allowed in an hour early - told it was ready and we appreciated that. But, we were disappointed in the lack of cleanliness. Very dusty all over, mouse droppings on pillows and we had to wipe down the fridge prior to using. No hand soap in the bathrooms. Had to borrow box fans from my family in Missoula for the airless downstairs bedroom. Needed a little TLC prior to guests arriving but we just took care of getting the things we needed ourselves.

Great location away.
We live in Montana and had tickets to a show at the Kettlehouse Ampitheater (which was almost rained out!) so we checked in seamlessly and headed into town. The house has a lovely backyard, deck and plenty of room for 2 cars to park. The internet is also strong, which was good for me because I worked the following day remotely. I will say the fridge and freezer were not very clean and same with some of the silverware. Plenty of towels, hand soap and amenities. I really liked the close proximity to town, and far enough away for it to be quiet.

Great location
We had a great stay at the Rattlesnake cottage. It's a great location convenient to hiking and town. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans and there are plenty of dishes. Shannon was responsive to questions/concerns and our stay went smoothly.

Really great spot
I stayed here with my brother while visiting my son and it was perfect. Kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and very easy clean up. Location is great and we loved Augie the pup!
Will stay again on my return visit.

We Enjoyed our Stay
It was clean and comfortable. The beds are comfortable. There is a lot of character to the property with a rustic look and a number of interesting nick-nacks. The listing, however, is a bit confusing; when I searched VRBO it came up as having 2 and 1/2 half baths, but in the details and property itself, it is only 1 and 1/2 baths. I received 2 check-in instruction sheets, which were similar, but there were some discrepancies (such as wi-fi password) which caused some confusion.
All in all, a very comfortable stay.

Perfect Stay in the Rattlesnake
My husband and I rented this guest house over the holidays so we could be in close proximity to our relatives. The guest house was better than I anticipated, and I would rent it again if I was staying in Missoula without any connections!
The house is tucked away behind the main house but is still quite large (though I live in DC so my idea of large is subjective). The two bedrooms were perfect, and there is a little alcove that would be perfect for a kid or two to sleep. It got down to single digits during our stay but the heat worked perfectly.
I would recommend staying here during your next stay in Missoula! Thank you to our hosts.

Good location
It was a place to stay and very convenient location. Having only one shower for four people and had to go into other bedroom wasn’t ver convenient. I would say a great place for just one couple!

A hideaway in The Rattlesnake
The guest house was a welcome escape from hotels in Missoula. Its off the road behind the main house and extremely quiet. We ate most of our meals here to get away from restaurant fare and binge watched Netflix in the evenings. Shannon was the best host ever and a wealth of information. We would definately stay here again!

Would stay again
Overall very pleased with the stay! We had a hiccup with needing a trash bag but Shannon was quick to set us up with what we needed. The house was very tidy! I think a couple extra things could be included in kitchen ware to help those who are staying and cooking their own meals and access to local TV could be helpful for those who want to view it.

Wonderful Place to Stay! Above and Beyond Expectations!
We cannot say enough about this place, our hosts and location. We were concerned at first with the size of the house based upon the photos. We were so pleasantly surprised at how spacious it was and how the layout allowed us to host a special dinner for our family and a few friends. A lot of thought and detail went into this place too and it showed! We were welcomed with a welcome sign too which was very personalized. Our friends and family all agreed that they too would rent this place next time they are visiting Missoula. Shannon and her family were so helpful and we loved being able to chat with them. We only wish we could have spent more time getting to know them as we found we had a lot in common. It was a whirlwind of a trip this time around, though next visit we certainly will invite them over again. We didn’t even have time to enjoy the new firepit they had. Next time we just have to stay longer and enjoy this even more.
The photos don’t even begin to capture the coolness of this place. We will be back! Thank you again Shannon and family!

Shannon, the property owner, was very responsive to emails and question regarding the property. The location was perfect for attending activities at University of Montana. Hiking and walking trails were nearby. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. I hope we have the opportunity to return to Missoula again.
