Townsend is a little gem hidden in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and is known as "the peaceful side of the Smokies". Excellent food, local craft beer, chocolate, pancakes, and art, all within a short walking distance!! Trout fishing and tubing the river are extremely popular, and we are just 2 mi. from the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and only 12 mi from the famous Cades Cove where you can get a glimpse of history and may even catch some really neat wildlife including bears! We had an amazing time at the Big Lodge. It's secluded enough for privacy- a bear walked right past the front door- yet close to town for grocery runs and dinners out. We loved walking down the steep drive to cross the swinging bridge. The house was spacious, the beds were super comfortable, and the rooms were all gorgeous. The game room was a huge hit with a nice pool table and arcade games.
The kitchen is a bit small for big parties (we had 11) but the downstairs refrigerator was a great plus and made the kitchen fully functional.
We had a problem with one of the three ACs the first day and the host came over immediately, called in a technician, and it was resolved the same day. The location is amazing - just minutes away from the National Park and tubing right on the Little River. Our favorite spot in town was The Peaceful Side for drinks and dinner. We loved their weekend taco stand and the beer was great.
This house really checked all the boxes for us. It was super clean, had easy clean up duties, was spacious and beautifully appointed, and had walk out on the main floor as well as the basement. We would definitely come back and it was well worth the rental cost for a large group.

This lodge was so spacious and perfect for our family of 15 from adults all the way on down to 6 weeks old. The hosts Oz and Parker were so accommodating and even purchased new baby gates ahead of our stay. Kitchen was very well equipped compared to other cabins we have stayed in. Pots and pans were in great shape!
We LOVED the couch! So big, comfy, and roomy! Kids enjoyed the mini golf and come home on the porches, and of course loved the game room. So much space in this place! We enjoyed having river access just a short drive from the lodge. Location was convenient to grocery and just down the road from Cades Cove entrance which was wonderful since we love it so much!
Thank you Oz and Parker for a wonderful memorable stay!

Great place to stay, clean, well-kept, the games are nice to have for everyone. We accidentally left my daughter’s beloved blanket and an expensive pillow. We sent a message to the host (the only messages we sent during our stay), the host replied and then we heard nothing back and still have no answer or items. We did offer to pay to have them sent as well as the convenience fee for their trouble.

A great house on the quieter side of the the smoky mountains park area. Plenty of space for 12 (6 adults + 6 kids). The host was close by and offered good suggestions.

We had the best time getting together as a family, there are 18 of us. This is our 2nd year staying in the Big Lodge on Little River. We definitely plan to stay again next year. Thank you so much to Parker and Oz for making our stay wonderful.

Our entire family of 10 adults and 4 grands gathered for a long weekend and to run in the Cades Cove Loop Lope. We had a blast! The lodge/cabin provides ample space to spread out, play, puzzle, cook, eat, visit. It was everything we'd hoped for and then some! Our favorite spot became the screened in porch with fire place. What a perfect area for fall evenings. Hot tub was enjoyed, game room was so fun and lives larger than the pictures show. Comfortable beds and wonderful to have private bathrooms. Thank you to our gracious hosts for excellent communication before, during and after our stay. The cabin was spotlessly clean, well stocked, so comfortable, and Smoky Mountain majestic. Loved every moment and hope to return. Highly recommend.

A large, spacious house that has a lot of privacy. It's a great location. The pictures do not do it justice.
The fireplace in the great room is wonderful!!!
We could have used some blankets as the weather is getting chillier.

Had friends and family. We all had a blast with everyone having there on space. Place was amazing. 10 am check out was tough but we made it work. The only thing was in the description it made it sound like the river access was on the property but its a good walk to get to it. Would love to stay there again

This house was a perfect place for our family to spend a long weekend together. The place was large with plenty of room for everybody to sleep. Everything was laid out nicely. The game room and the miniature golf on the lower deck kept all ages entertained. There was more than enough parking available. We also enjoyed cooking out in the deck on the charcoal grill as well as in the kitchen. We definitely would stay here again.

Beautiful Property - the only thing I seen was that the Kitchen needed to be bigger. It was a challenge to cook for 20 people but we managed. Would recommend for anyone with a large family group to go on vacation together.

There are 13 of us ranging in ages 2 to 75, so finding a place large enough to comfortably accommodate us is not always easy. The size of this house was perfect along with its proximity to the river and other nearby activities. The children appreciated the golf and games in the basement. And of course, the goats and the peacocks. The weather was perfect during our visit and we all left with happy memories. Thank you!

Great description of property and details for navigating the GPS directions. House had nice details like comfortable sheets and mattresses. It would have been helpful to know that we had access to stores so close in description and to maybe mention how busy the river can become with tubers. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed the property very much!

Great week spent with 3 generations of our family. Many wonderful activities in Townsend Tn. area. Our rental home was well equipped and supplied with all we needed for a fun filled week. Comfortable beds & private baths for each bedroom. Game room & games were a big hit. Loved being able to walk to the Little river for tubing. We will be back!

With a big family some time its hard to find a rental with enough room for everyone. This home had comfy beds with each couple having thier own bathroom. There was plenty of seating at the dinner tables that we could all sit together. We all enjoyed sipping our coffee in the mornings on the porch in cozy rocking chairs.

We had 8 adults and 9 grandchildren from 1 year to 7 years old When our 7 old grandson toured the cabin and saw the miniature golf , air hockey, pool table , and PAC Man he said “Grandma picked the perfect cabin !” It was secluded yet with easy access to Townsend and the Smoky Mountains. Highly recommend!

The house and area are amazing. Perfect for family reunions. The game room is out of this world. The owner was quick to respond for several reasons. Thank you.

Overall a great place to stay with the family.we had a fantastic time at the cabin and lots to do all around, but the only dissatisfaction i had with the place is that they stated they had a charcoal grill and its acually a gas grill turned into a carcoal grill with no temperature control so it ended up overcooking the food and burning it.

When my only child husband said we should rent a cabin in the woods with our family of 5 and my parents, and my three siblings families each consisting of 4 or more 😳, I thought he was crazy but since I don’t see my family enough I immediately started the search for the perfect cabin.. Well, we weren’t able to get everyone together and I never thought we would be able to pull off something like that without him going insane but this was the PERFECT place. Big Lodge on Little River made this crazy vacation absolutely possible, actually it was totally enjoyable and even terrifically memorable.
Not only are the owners just splendid/gracious/great communicators but they have got a gem of a house placed right smack dab in the heart of the beautiful Smoky Mountains.
This house completely met my high expectations and those of my family. It is HUGE but it is furnished so comfortably and graciously that no one in our large family felt left out. The bedrooms gave the adults/every family all the privacy necessary. The kitchen was cozy with the help of a few sous chefs but it was fully stocked with all that we needed and it was perfect for my close-knit, loving family. The grills were close to the kitchen but were out on the spacious patio, perfect for the men to enjoy talking over some sizzling meats in the fresh mountain air. There were 3 massive wood-burning fireplaces; one upstairs, one downstairs, and 1 outside. Children and adults alike all thoroughly enjoyed those.
When we weren’t taking advantage of all the accommodations of the house we could get outside, walk down the hill to visit the sweetest goats, enjoy the beautiful fans of the peacocks, and soak up the majesty of the swing bring over Little River.
The town of Townsend is where I wanted to be. It was close to anything you might want but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. There was even a little festival down at the bottom of the hill happening on the weekend of our stay and all the young cousins were able to make their own homemade rope, hold the reigns of a huge Great Dane named Piper, and ride a self propelled train hand-car.
I’m telling you, there was a place for everyone! I mean, there were so many smiles the whole stay. I could go on and on but just trust me, you won’t regret staying her. The memories we made and this place are so special to me. They will never be forgotten. Thanks to the owners of the Big Lodge on Little River.

We stayed at the cabin for a long weekend. We had a nice stay in the cabin. It has all you need. Kitchen is small like others have said but it was big enough to have a few adults in there at a time with no major issues. Everyone had their own room to retreat to and their own bathroom. It was nice to have the basement with a pool table and Pac-Man. We never used the hot tub so can’t say anything about that. The beds were comfortable. Water pressure was good. We had a wonderful time here and would love to rent from them again!

Everything was perfect. Everything we could imagine was provided from baby gates to a high hair to a crib and every cooking utensil we needed. Out stay was perfect even if the snow started it out crazy. Our host were great and we’re so helpful and Accommodating. There was plenty of room the kids to spread out and play while the adults could sit around and talk. I highly recommend and will be booking with them again.

This is a beautiful home, well taken care of and the sleeping accommodations for our family of 20 were more than adequate, bathrooms were immaculate and laundry facilities were great as well. However, if you plan on cooking big family meals, be prepared for a challenge, the stove is located in a nook that makes it impossible for more than one person to use and seriously, my mobile home has a kitchen that's 2x the size of this one's. There was a large deck with a gas and charcoal grill, but there was no gas available, and buying a tank for one meal seemed a gamble, wondering if it would even be functional after purchasing gas. While there is ample space for eating, scant accommodations for preparing the meal is an understatement.

This property was perfect for our 3 generation (2 - 77 yes) family gathering. The house design provided plenty of space for the 17 of us to gather for meals, while having great spaces for children to play while adults visited. Among the favorites for the children were the mini golf holes and the hot tub. The adults loved the porch. The kitchen was well stocked for meal prep. This beautiful home will not disappoint!

Well designed, well supplied house in a wonderful location.
The three year-olds loved running on the porch and experiencing the swinging bridge. The adults loved the spaciousness and layout. The kitchen is small, but is extremely well supplied and was easy to adjust to.

This beautiful house is in a secluded woods at the top of the hill. Our original reservation was for 22 got Covid got the best of some family members and we ended up with 17. The house was more than big enough! Within walking distance of Townsend, a short drive to the park and Cades Cove, a beautiful game room, and plenty of technology available, everyone was happy! We will return!

Had a small family gathering and had plenty of seating and beds so that our families (it can sleep so many people we had a few extra beds) had their own space. The little putt-putt obstacles were a hit with the kiddos! The fireplace was nice in early October. The hottub had issues, but the host was quick to have it assessed. The property is fun for the kids to explore, they loved the peacocks and goats. We enjoyed the proximity to the National Park a ton, it was easy traffic to do most things. We will definitely book here again for our large family vacations.

My family loved everything about this home. Plenty of space for everyone. The two wrap around decks (with railings) were fantastic for the little ones to play & they loved the mini golf area. Secluded enough for privacy but close enough to downtown Townsend to hear live music while sitting out on the decks. Would love to visit again if the dates are available!!

It’s a great house for large families. We had plenty of room for everyone. There is a lot to do for everyone. The littles in our group enjoyed the walk down to view the goats and peacock’s. We floated the river which was fun. The kitchen is small for a large house but we were able to make it work. Had some issues but they were fast to respond. The house is pretty private and secluded with ample parking. Would recommend if you are looking for a getaway and have a large family.
