We were visiting from England, and looking for peace, quiet and spectacular views and we certainly found them here. The house location is perfect - the immediate surroundings couldn't be more peaceful, but access is very easy for Acadia and the highway for longer trips, as well as easy shopping in Ellsworth. The grounds of the house are gorgeous, with direct access to the sea, and space to relax by the fire at night. The house itself is extremely comfortable and well-equipped with gorgeous views from all the main rooms. The only very minor negative is that one of the bedrooms is smaller and doesn't have a view (which caused some arguments between our daughters even though they are young adults now!)

This is a charming and cozy house. We loved looking at the view and the wildlife. It was an easy 35-40 min drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor and then back home to the quiet privacy at this spot.

Spindle Cottage was everything we hoped it would be for our family vacation. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and what a view! This is clearly a cottage that is well loved and cared for. It feels like home the moment you step into it. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the tools you need to prepare a meal with. If you want to go out to eat, there are places nearby for that as well…and if you are looking for something in particular, just email Susan, as we did, and you are sure to get an immediate response with a great recommendation. Bar Harbor & Acadia National park were within an easy half hour drive. We literally had the park trails to ourselves, due to the timeframe of our visit. There is a notebook at the cottage filled with all the information you could possibly need for a fabulous vacation. Last but not least, the firepit in the evenings was the perfect ending after a full day of hiking Acadia. If we get a chance to return to Maine, Spindle Cottage is where we would stay!

The cottage sets on the sea and it is very quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting outside to watch the sunsets, tide and the birds. We had everything we needed to prepare meals, do laundry. It was very convenient to the grocery store and was only a 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor.

Perfect out of the way getaway! Close to everything we needed yet nestled on a quiet lane on the water. Beautiful views out of the windows during meals or just relaxing. Just what we were looking for!

Beautiful home and location. Secluded but short drive to town and about 30 minutes to Acadia. Very clean and well stocked. A little steep to launch kayaks but possible. Enjoyed being able to kayak right from the house. Thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise.

We were excited to stay in this house, but it surpassed all expectations. The listing photos really don’t do it justice! The house is lovely inside — large, modern windows on three sides facing the bay, a beautiful yard with picnic table and fire pit, great kitchen stocked with basic provisions, three comfy bedrooms with pretty views, full baths up and down stairs. It was definitely one of the nicest homes we’ve rented, and the setting is spectacular. The house is clean, fresh and comfortable. We had family staying in Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor, so there was a lot of driving (30 minutes each way), but it was fun to host everyone for dinner at ‘our place’ and watch the beautiful sunsets. We especially appreciated all of the thoughtful touches, like fire starter bricks and a full s’mores pantry for our use. Our favorite part of each day was sitting in the swivel chairs next to the front windows enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the herons and cormorants patrolling the shore. So relaxing!

What a wonderful place to stay for the week and explore Acadia National Park! 20 minutes away depending on where in the park you are going. The view was picture perfect. Grandson had a blast searching out the tide pools right out in front of this cottage. The bird watching is fantastic eagles warblers gulls, osprey, blue herons all beautiful! seals and sea lions in the bay. Binoculars supplied!!
Eat at Union River Bay Lobster House 10 minutes away. Get breakfast, coffee, treats at Sugar Bakery at Bar Harbor Rd and Oak Point! Pizza at Pat’s !
Beds have cushy pads on them. Couch is comfy with a view of the bay. Fire pit was lovely for night enjoyment and s’mores ! We bought our own wood- $5 a bundle.
Nice washer dryer to use with soap supplied.
Kitchen was well supplied for cooking with spices and basic cooking needs. Had lots of drying towels.
Bathrooms were nicely appointed with a magnifying mirror in the upstairs bath. Lots of towels to use. Large pool towels supplied was nice.
Spindle Cottage was all we could hope for and more!! Thank you for sharing your amazing place!
An eagle waved good bye to us as we walked to the car to leave! Best goodbye we’ve had!

My wife and I visited for 6 nights. The house and views were spectacular. If you are looking for a quiet throwback Maine retreat, this is your place. We watched seals through the binoculars each day, sat by the fire pit and walked the beach during low tide. We went to Acadia most days and found it a very easy 30 minute drive or less. I would easily come back again.

The views and peace of this property are unbelievable for the price. Comfortable and convenient to everything (towns, coasts, Acadia, state parks and monuments) but you will just want to stay at home and enjoy chilling in the yard.

We had a wonderful time in our visit to Maine and Acadia National Park. The house was perfect and exceeded all expectations. The views from the house were awesome. We were entertained daily by harbor seals and other wildlife that were easy to see from the large windows of the main living areas. On one occasion, we got to see 2 Bald Eagles. There are many good restaurants, grocery, and gas stations within a few minutes of the house. There is even a Super Walmart.

My favorite part of the house was waking up seeing the sunrise over the water and listening to the sounds of nature, while drinking a cup of coffee from their French press.

My husband and I stayed here for a month, a test run for retirement. WiFI enabled me to work remotely with incredible views of the water and all the active wildlife. It is so close to busier tourist areas, yet very secluded, private and quiet. Loved it!

We love this property! It’s gorgeous to be surrounded by water and watch the tides peacefully rise and fall. The cottage has nice amenities and plenty of room to spread out. It’s very quiet, yet close enough to Bar Harbor to really enjoy that town too. We’ve already booked our next stay!

We really enjoyed our stay at Spindle Cottage. It's a beautiful house, very clean, well decorated, and well-stocked (shampoo, conditioner, soap, towels, etc...). It's also a beautiful property right on the water and nice and quiet. Would definitely stay here again if we return to Acadia.

It had everything we hoped for. The house is in a nice peaceful location and is well appointed for spending meals in. Two beautiful bedrooms with views. My done enjoyed the third bedroom for being nice and quite and dark in the morning.

Week in Acadia
The property is great.
The only drawback for us was that we are a tall family ranging from 5’8” to 6’4”. The kitchen's overhead cabinets were low for us and we banged our heads a few times until we got used to the layout — especially when using the sink.
Otherwise, the location is great and the property has wonderful views. If you are a nature lover, you can watch out the window all day. We saw as many as fifteen harbor seals basking on the rocks and various water birds including cormorants, ospreys, petrels, gulls, and a bald eagle pair hunting in the bay. The eagles were flying right by the window and posing for pictures on the rocks in the bay. The ospreys were hovering just above the bluff at high tide and diving for fish every afternoon. There are binoculars for wildlife viewing but bring a telephoto lens camera if you have one to capture all the sights.
We also encountered deer and a family of about thirty turkeys on the road in and out to the property. There are wild blueberries growing on the edge of the bluff which you will have to share with the birds.
The location is about 20-25 minutes from ANP and Bar Harbor and eight minutes from downtown Ellsworth which has a few restaurants and a couple of grocery stores.
The house is incredibly well-stocked with all your kitchen needs including spices and oils. There are also board games for if it rains and books/magazines about the area. There is a portable AC unit but we never needed it despite the 80 degree days. There are also fans to help circulate air when the winds die down. In the afternoon, the ocean breezes kicked in and cooled the house down. One small issue is that the house becomes a wind tunnel with all the windows upon so you have to be careful opening and closing doors.
Overall, the property was exactly what we wanted for our vacation. We had easy access to everything and a quiet retreat when we were tired out from hiking all day. The property managers were incredibly responsive to questions and we received our security deposit refund the day after we left the property.

Wonderful location and home
This house is beautiful and the scenery is spectacular. The house was very clean and was well stocked—the owners thought of everything! It was perfect for two couples. We grilled one night and had a fire with s’mores 2 nights! When we come back, I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else. Very close to Bar Harbor and a quaint little town Camden-great restaurants Provender Kitchen, Riverside Cafe, to name a few. Great trip!

Fantastic Stay!!
The location is stunning. Waking up every day to a gorgeous water view, there was no need for tv. The house was stocked with everything you would need. Still able to drive anywhere you need to go but the house was in a peaceful area. The communication with Susan was very quick and responsive. They really care about your stay and making it a five star experience. Quite honestly, we all hated to leave. A week was not enough and we hated to leave. If you’re considering this property, it’s definitely the right choice!

Excellent Stay
My girlfriend was even more pleased when we arrived as the pictures on the listing don't do the view justice. It felt like we had Union River Bay all to ourselves for the week. The property was very clean and in great shape. It was well worth the price. We did spot seals several days, and one day they played right out in front of the house for hours until sundown.
