Comfortable Beds, had everything we needed, loved the wildlife
Saucepans could be updated, everything stuck to them and hard to clean
4.3
Loved the visiting of the birds and area was awesome
The beds were uncomfortable, the mattress on bottom bunk was very thin so you feel the base and the main room bed is on its last legs it rocks when you move around and is too small. The Bbq was really dirty and so was the outdoor furniture. The back area was great for your pet though rocks are hard and no shelter for them and the back door is really hard to open and close because of moisture damage and the mat is too thick (I think) also there is no laundry facilities and the closest laundromat is in next town 29km away.

Everything that was needed was there for us. The place was clean and tidy with fresh bedding and all the kitchen utensils that could be needed. Cooking facilities were great as were the fridge and freezer for all the food we brought with us.
I know it's call Cockatoo Cabin, we are no strangers to cockatoos but those birds are a pain! They got into the very full rubbish bin twice which required cleaning up and an extra large rock and log putting on top to keep them out.
Of course they are all in your business, which seems cute but started ripping bits of window ledge off when they didn't get fed. They are like bored teenagers.

The cabin was well equipped and the host went above and beyond, leaving sun screen, tissues by the bed, bird seed to encourage the Cockatoos (and they came from every where!)
We found the bed a little uncomfortable but it didn’t spoil our visit. It’s a tiny cabin and space a little lacking but we weren’t inside much, we sat on the deck surrounded by cockatoos just like in the photo. My primary reason for choosing this particular cabin. We self catered and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. The bathroom, obviously renovated was spacious and the shower was invigorating after a long day out exploring.
We loved our 4 night stay and would definitely stay here again.
It’s centrally located just outside of town for quiet but easy to walk or drive into Haljs Gap.
Highly recommend.
It sleeps five people but there wouldn’t be any where comfortable for them to sit after a days hiking.
4.3
The location and the balcony
The front door is very stiff so needed a lot of force to close properly and a good push to open. The bathroom sink is partially blocked so very slow to drain. The shower head comes off the holder too easily and sprays water everywhere. A lot of dust on power points and electrical connectors. Grill section of BBQ had so much caked on grease that it caught fire so I had to switch it off and didn't try to use it again.

Comfort, views and details. So relaxing and thoughtful. Very clean. Great location.

Kitchen outfitted well for self catering- fun on porch w/ abundant cockatoos. Close to town, but rural surroundings. Excellent modern walk in shower

no laundry facilities at the house or in the town for that matter.

peace & quiet
nothing , it was acceptable

Location and Homely.
The cabin floor was very loud and noisy.

It's a small cabin but so compact. We love the fact that owner provide us with little pack of birds food and we get to see and feed the birds so often. The kids love the experience. We also appreciate all the games, book, Netflix and plastic bowls / cutlery and booster seats... the owner made sure the cabin is kids friendly.

the location
needing more ventilation in the bathroom

Cockatoo Cabin is a rustic timber home which is a great as a base for exploring the Grampians region. It's a small partly renovated cabin with a modern bathroom. The cockatoos arrived on the verandah within 2 minutes of parking our car there! And they're very friendly. Plus we found a kangaroo in the front garden when returning one evening. This is the best area in Victoria for seeing Australian wildlife roaming free.
When we arrived it was 9 degrees outside and 9 degrees inside. It took 24 hours to get the cabin warm as all the heating is located at least 1.7 metres high on the walls. The warm air rises so your head is hot, but your feet are freezing. It would be fine in summer but winter is difficult without a floor level heater.
The wine glasses weren't particularly clean when we arrived so we washed both them and the coffee mugs to ensure they were. Unfortunately, relying on previous guests to wash things well doesn't always work. The rest of the property was OK however, the colour of the walls made it look a bit tired.

Perfect quiet stay if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Cockatoos were delightful.

The location was good - an easy walk in to Halls Gap. The heating was good - we were kept nice and toasty. The birds and wildlife were fabulous. All linen was clean and fresh.
The cabin is quite damp and has a mould problem - would not recommend for anyone with allergies. The kitchen pantry supplies are very basic - no salt at all and the pepper shaker was empty. No handwash in the bathroom pump (although we were able to refill using the one supplied in the kitchen). Games, cards and toys supplied were old and incomplete.

excellent location. very clean. great late check out.

The location was perfect, the cabin was clean comfortable and beds were comfortable as well, the cockys were wonderful.
Everything was perfect there was no negative.

Location is perfect
The cabin is outdated. We have two days of not heavy rain and water came from back door plus water drops were from the ceiling in the bathroom. I would suggest to inspect the roof
4.3
Shower was excellent, beds were comfy and nice cotton sheets.
Not much. Slightly grumpy notices in the kitchen, as you can see a trivial dislike. TV reception varied in quality.
4.3
Stunning location with birds right at your doorstep
4.3
The wildlife interaction. It was wonderful waking up to the birds waiting for their breakfast.
The only downfall was the lack of laundry facilities. After walking during winter months a dryer would have been handy. However it wasn’t a big issue.

The flexibility with the arrival time was terrific. The location was excellent- an easy walk into Halls Gap, quiet as it was away from the busyness of town and the view of Boronia Peak from the deck was terrific.
The badly marked walls and unsightly group of electrical adapters in the bedroom was disappointing. The hanging mop and poorly painted door in the nicely renovated bathroom also detracted from the ‘getaway’ experience. A small pantry of items such as oil and a coffee machine with pods would have made us feel more welcome, too.
4.3
This is great cabin which had all the facilities required. Nice views out the front and back, with a regular supply of cockatoos.
Sound quality on TV was not great.
4.3
The location of the cabin is very good and away from the main road. There are a lot of Cockatoos around so carry a kilo or two of Cockatiel birdfeed from Woolies. You can spot kangaroos around the cabin in the day and even at night (but don't approach them too closely). Other types of birds are also abundant. The kitchen is a bit small but well-equipped. If you have a good eye or a zoom lens, you can spot the Pinnacle lookout which is at the top of the ridge right behind the cabin. You can try spotting the cabin from the Pinnacle lookout too if you trek up there.
