Build a beautiful resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bikes, because Buxton’s unique shops, restaurants, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD vehicle - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). This is an excellent four-bedroom condo with one-and-a-half baths. The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

I had a great stay in this Buxton house. The price was very affordable for a 7 day stay. The booking and check in process was easy although there were a couple extra steps as the house is owned by another rental property, Vacasa. I had a number to text for any questions and response was quick. The house is located in a cul de sac, just a 5 min walk to the beach. The house was very clean when we arrived with plenty of bath towels. We enjoyed the charcoal grill located right behind the house next to the patio stairs. There were a few beach chairs in the storage which came in handy for our beach outings. The kitchen came with plenty of plates, pans, utensils and bowls to prepare a meal. Only suggestion I have is to bring your own seasonings as there are none in the house, not even salt and pepper. I also wish we also knew about the Buxton beach closure. No fault of the house at all and there were plenty of other beaches with public parking we were able to go to. The closure is due to an old Navy station structure that is leaking petroleum I to the water. I didn't see or smell the petroleum during my stay there but I would suggest staying away from that stretch of beach just in case. Haulover Day Use beach entrance and parking was one we visited frequently, just a 5 min drive from the house. I suggest going to Buxton Seafood and buying some fish to grill. We got tuna, shrimp and Mahi Mahi, they were delicious! Hatteras ferry terminal was about 30 min drive to get to Ocracoke - my

Nice house with short walk to beach. Needs a few things in the kitchen but overall a good week. Don’t rent for the pool access, it’s 5 miles away from the house.

My family and I loved this dog friendly beach house! It was very clean and spacious with our huge family and two really big dogs. Plenty of room for all of us. They provided bath towels and toilet paper during our stay. The beach house was close to the beach with just a short 5 minute walk and the warm outdoor shower was great to wash off the little ones after our beach day. Shops, restaurants and food lion grocery store was close to the house and DUCK DONUTS WAS AMAZING!!!
The only negitive comment would be that the pool is a 12 minute drive away from this beach house. I wish it was closer but we did make a day of it and the huge pool was wonderful and perfect for the little kids!
We will definitely book this beach house again next summer.

The house was lovely, comfortable, and had great views. It was as easily beach accessible as I thought & I never saw a community pool - BUT it was cool & windy for the majority of our trip & these things didn’t matter. Starfish is in a great location as a hub to visit the northern Outer Banks & the Southern Outer Banks. There were plenty of restaurants close by, Food Lion was nearby, & Duck Donuts (yes this is important) was in the shopping center in the Food Lion parking lot. We had a great time during our stay & I especially enjoyed the screened in porch with it’s view of the ocean & the under renovation Hatteras Lighthouse.

Was contacted by property manager about make sure everything was okay. Texted back that the place needed a deep clean. Baseboards dirty, cobwebs on the toilet plungder, windows needed cleaned(had either handprints or (dog) nose prints, railing loose. Sent pictures. Was told we would be contacted the next morning about these issues. No one every call or contacted us. Just a disappointment.

The house is a very spacious unit for a frailly of 7 with room for at least 2-3 more if you wanted. Great spot with a 5 min beach walk, great back deck overlooking the dune/beach area.

The view of the beach was lovely but the screened in porch was heaven. Never too hot to sit outside with ocean breeze and no mosquitoes. Close to town for a short trip to Conner’s Supermarket and a few restaurants. Sandbar was our best meal.
Furniture and decor was updated and nice. The beds were comfortable and tvs in every bedroom. The toiletries are severely lacking. Broken but useable coffee pot, no coffee available. No staples provided at all, not even salt and pepper. Nice to have the washer and dryer in the unit. No beach towels or beach use items provided at all. Not acceptable at the price point for a beach home.

There's really nowway I can give this place a positive review. It was clear a decision was made not to invest in the upkeep of the property. The sheer volume of holes, drywall damage, and grime on the walls gave it the feel of your buddies college rental. For the price I paid there's really no excuse for this place not to have been better kept up and furnished and presented as a more upscale vacation home for families. The beds were cheap and uncomfortable, the coffee pot light didn't work so it was on and you didn't know it (fire hazard), toaster didn't work, back porch was rotted, outside shower head barely worked, some of the light fixtures had damage etc... On a positive note the beach was nice and secluded but the property itself was a disappointment ESPECIALLY at the price point. I have paid for all inclusive vacations at a similar price point that were far and away better value for the money.

Starfish September 2021
Overall we enjoyed our stay at Starfish. The home is located in a development near the site of the old Coast Guard station. While somewhat dated, we found it very adequate for us. The house was clean and everything functioned as it should.

Location was perfect but stay wasn’t the greatest
The home smelled of cat urine horrible, my son is deathly allergic to cats and was sick the whole trip, we were only aware of dogs being able to at this property and cats are his only severe allergy, the upstairs bedrooms were filled with tiny ants and the beds were very uncomfortable, the supply of wash cloths was slim to none for a family of 4 we had to buy loofas for our stay after day 1, the location was perfect which was the best perk

Starfish
We had a major pipe break and flood most of the downstairs. They came that night, got us to a new house for the night and had our house cleaned and ready for us to move back in by the next afternoon. The house was clean and well supplied with everything you need. My only complaint was the kitchen chairs were not very comfortable and the beach access was a little deceiving. There was direct access to the beach parking but the actual beach entrance was much farther away but still walkable. Would definitely rent again.

Good time in the OBX at Starfish
The Starfish house is in a great location. Short walk to the beach or town and excellent views of the ocean and the lighthouse. This is not a four star hotel but it is a great beach house. House was generally clean but well worn, not dirty but worn. Kitchen was well stocked and there was lots of room for an extended family vacation. Basic furnishings were clean and comfy, bedrooms were the same. The proximity to everything in Buxton is a huge plus. You can walk or bike almost everywhere. Back 3 bedrooms have great views but you should be ready for the light from the lighthouse at night, didn’t disturb sleep but was a surprise the first night. If you bring the pups watch out for the cactus and spiky weeds in the wild grass areas. Overall great location and a solid OBX rental.

Good times
I loved how close the beach was. The beds were a little uncomfortable but everyone was so tired that it didn’t really matter lol. Would definitely go back again

Nice place!
We had a great time with the family for a 4-day vacation. House was clean when we arrived. It is a 2-3mins walk away from the beach and the lighthouse is like 10mins beach walk. The beach is not that crowded. Sunrise is a must see thing so don’t miss it! Grocery store nearby 5mins drive, Conner’s Supermarket highly recommended. Another thing I like most is that the house has a very good airconditioning which is perfect for the summer. The only thing I would like to recommend is that kindly provide more pillows and blankets for each rooms and better mattress as well. Thank you for the staff and crew! We had a memorable family vacation!

Starfish stay
Location was great. Staff was wonderful ! Could use some updates like some of the beds and fridge was a bit loud. A grill would have been great ! And access to a closer pool ! Maybe some baby gates to block off stairs and a high chair/pack and play even rentalable ones ! Just some ideas ! But overall great place great location !!!!!

Family Vacation
We enjoyed our stay in Buxton! The rental was easy to locate and close to the beach. We wish that it was more updated and provided more amenities, but overall it was nice.

The mice
I expected it to be older and outdated. I expected it to be CLEAN. I wiped this place down with cleaning cloths. It was a disappointment from day 1. Day 2- microwave and coffee maker break. The maintenance guy was super nice. He took care of the appliances. That evening came the mouse!!! I should have known what I was getting into by the low cost. It was worth the low cost!! I’ll never see it again. Not sure I’ll even use this VRBO again!! It’s misleading!

Lighthouse View
This rental is in an awesome location. We had views of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and of the ocean. Our main objective was to visit the lighthouses, so having one in site was quite nice! It was a very short walk from the back door to the beach and to the original site of the lighthouse. This rental is very spacious and had everything you need for a great vacation. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and dishes/pots. It was great to have on-site washer and dryer!! It is, however, in need of some loving care. There are some repairs and renovations needed. The microwave didn’t work, the screen on the back door was torn, many of the door blinds were broken, and the door to the 2nd floor balcony wouldn’t lock. The kitchen, baths and linens were all clean, but the baseboards, lampshades and other areas need to be cleaned. I know we were there in the off season, but I assume it gets a good cleaning before the official vacation season begins. In all, it was nice and we would stay there again at the price we paid.

Great Getaway
The house was clean and spacious. However, the neighborhood/location of the house was by far the best part! The beach was a short 4 minute walk away, and had a parking lot as well for closer access. Oftentimes we felt as though we had a private beach to ourselves, and we were able to get a permit for bonfires on the beach! Overall, an excellent stay!
