About this farm stay rental
Stone Walls is located on 45 acres of open meadow and a winding forest trail in the heart of the Green Mountains of southern Vermont. The four-season property is 10 minutes to Okemo Mountain and the VAST trail can be directly accessed on the property. If you love the outdoors you are within close proximity to skiing, snowmobiling, golfing, hiking, mountain biking, lakes and state parks.
Built in 1845, the stone farmhouse is an excellent example of a construction process called "Snecked Ashlar” and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The home consists of 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with an additional outdoor shower (seasonal). The fully equipped chef’s kitchen is perfect for entertaining and opens up into the den which features additional seating to warm up by the brick fireplace or watch the big game. There is also a formal dining room and a large living room perfect for your entire group to enjoy a movie, or roll out the yoga mats. A bonus room that doubles as a game room for our younger guests includes a foosball and air hockey table. The private master bedroom sits above the garage and has its own stone fireplace, sitting area, and is highlighted with exposed wood beams. The property includes VAST trail hiking, a fire pit, picnic area, and many places to sit and relax.

We loved everything about staying at Stone Walls. The house was clean and comfortable, and felt like a real home -- the kitchen, for example, was particularly well equipped. The garden is lovely -- a huge expanse of well kept lawn shaded by maples -- with a trail going off into a beautiful wood behind the house. Across the (dirt!) road is a rolling meadow with an extraordinarily beautiful pond -- and yet more beautiful trees. On top of all this the house manager was extremely responsive when we ran into a minor glitch. All in all, I would recommend the house in the strongest possible terms!

We all had a wonderful time. We loved the house. It was charming and there was plenty of space for our nine family members. It was the most well equipped place that we have stayed in. Our grandsons had a blast snowboarding at Okemo. Matt, the owner was extremely easy to work with. We definitely want to return!

Five couples had a lovely stay in Cavendish! The house is well appointed - linens, fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, clear instructions- you name it! Explored the area and neighborhood a bit. Fire pit was a bonus. Thank you for your hospitality. We would love to return!

Because all of the heavy rains during July and August, we encountered numerous road closures, bridge closures, business closures and reconstruction in the areas surrounding this property's location. However the house and property was unscathed by the weather events in the area. The house was exactly as described. Four bedrooms on the second level and a king bed on the third level. There is an expansive yard, great for the kids, multiple picnic tables with umbrellas, a large gas grill, and nice firepit surrounded by Adirondack chairs, hammock, apple trees, a blueberry bush and rock walls surrounding the property. The house is on the corner of 2 roads, but they were never an issue, there is a minimal amount of vehicle traffic as the property is quiet and fairly remote with only 1 nearby neighboring house that was occupied only on the weekend. The kitchen is well supplied with cookware, though we didn't find any pan covers, microwave, coffee makers, drip and Keurig, condiments and spices. There was plenty of paper goods, trash bags, etc. available. Groceries were available at Singleton's General Store, 5 minutes away and some restaurants were open in the area. The beds were very comfortable, and appropriate for our 7 adults and 2 young children. The owners provided details for nearby swimming holes that were enjoyed by our group. We found it easy to communicate with the owners and property manager via text and there were very quick to respond. We hope to return in the future.

From morning puzzles in the family room to afternoon reading in the hammock to star gazing around the fire pit at night, Matt and Carla’s home is the perfect place to slow down and spend quality time with the people you love.
The home itself strikes a wonderful balance of design, history, and comfort. We’ve stayed in a number of rental homes through the years and theirs is hands down the most well-appointed we’ve seen. (They’ve truly thought of everything.) The location is perfect, providing quiet, space, and easy access to nature, but still a short 5-15 minute drive to grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Matt was incredibly responsive from booking to the moment we checked out. Again, they clearly go out of their way to make everything easy for their guests.
At the end of our stay, my family and I agreed it was the most peaceful and relaxing week we’ve had in a long while. Truly cannot recommend a stay here highly enough and we hope to return again soon!

After many disappointing years of searching for the perfect weekend rental in the Cavendish area for a growing family which includes a small dog, I believe we have found it. Super clean, spacious, & comfortable! A beautiful well maintained historical home with all the amenities (in & out) to make sure children safe & entertained & adults could relax! One uninvited guest on Saturday night was a bat who was safely caught & released outdoors! Thank you Kaplunas family & hope you will have us same time next year!

We stayed for a week and this property was just right for our family and friends. Hard to find rooms without bunk or twins, so it was great to have 5 bedrooms for all the adults. The property was great inside and outside, with plenty of space for outdoor games and lovely firepit. House was clean and well stocked.
We took some suggestions and did the Bike and Brew tour, played disc golf at Okemo, and did some time on area lakes and swimming holes. Brian, the property manager was also quick to repsond to any concerns.
If you are looking for a great getaway with a group, give this a look.

Our family of 5 stayed here with friends (a family of four) for a skiing trip to Okemo after Christmas. This place was perfect for the 9 of us! This house is amazing--I took notes (and some pictures) that I'll be using when I get out of the military and am able to settle down in our "forever home." This classic New England farmhouse is spacious, clean, and updated with exceptional taste. It was more than big enough for the nine of us, and an extremely cozy place to settle in after a day of skiing with the kids. I've already been sending the info to everyone I know so they too can plan a trip to this incredible destination!

Our group of 5 couples stayed at Stone Walls for 3 nights in January 2023. Hosts were incredibly responsive and helpful, home was clean and well-stocked, location was very close to Okemo and Ludlow Village. I would definitely stay again!

Vermont family time
This was a perfect winter trip. The house and property were perfect. Perfect weather for skiing at Okemo, friendly snow ball fights, snowshoeing, sledding and we built a snowman too! Roaring fires and lots of laughter in the evenings. We hope to return for a longer trip next time 💕❄️

Ski Weekend
We absolutely loved this property! It was a beautifully updated antique , New England home. The house was very clean and very spacious. There was plenty of room to spread out and the bedrooms accomodated 5 couples very nicely. The kitchen was stocked with many supplies, there was nothing we needed that we couldn't find! The hosts were easily accessible and promptly answered all of our questions. I would definately stay at this house again!
Thanks again!

Perfect Getaway
Matt was a great host - easy to communicate with and his home was a delight. The little ones enjoyed running up and down both staircases and playing in the game room. The home was the cleanest and the kitchen the best stocked that I have ever booked. Wished we could have stayed longer.

An Amazing Vermont Getaway!
This was our first Christmas in a VRBO and it was perfect! We arrived to a spotless, cozy home along with our married children and 91 year old mother. There were many sitting areas, bedrooms with privacy, a completely equipped kitchen, and gorgeous dining room. The stone house is located in a storybook setting. This will be one of our most memorable holidays.

A gem of a home away from home
Our family was so lucky to stay here for a long weekend. We travelled to VT for a family wedding. This spacious home allowed the 5 adults privacy as well as common spaces. It is immaculate and the decor is lovely. The grounds are great for outdoor activities. We wish we could stay longer and hope to visit again.

Wonderful Vermont Farmhouse
We had a lovely stay at this farmhouse for a long weekend. The house was very clean and we had everything that we needed. There are many small restaurants in the area with excellent service, we especially liked Murdock's On the Green and Crow's Bakery. It was a smooth check-in process and the owner's were also very responsive when we had a questions. We would highly recommend.

Green Mountain Gem
Stone Walls is a lovingly restored and tastefully furnished New England classic. There's much to love about this beautiful old house. We enjoyed cooking in the well stocked kitchen and sitting around the lovely, cozy dining table for dinners. The house has two well-placed fireplaces, stocked with dry firewood. The back yard is a perfect size for a kids' football game, swinging under the apple tree, even working (with good wifi) while enjoyign the fresh air. The trail (snow mobile trail) behind the house was just right for quiet strolls in the woods. The bedrooms were comfortable and inviting, and everyone slept soundly. The house was full of charm and the kids had an amazing time in the game room and hiding out in the "tower."
The location of the home is very convenient to Cavendish, Proctorsville, and Ludlow. You can find pretty much all of your basics as well as a few good eateries within a 10-15 minute drive.
The Kapalunas are very thoughtful and responsive hosts, and do a terrific job of helping guests to feel welcome. We hope to visit again soon!

Beautiful & Peaceful
We stayed for a long weekend at Stone Walls. The home was beautifully decorated and very clean. We loved unwinding by the fireplace at night after a day of playing in the large backyard and hiking the trails just off the back of the property. It is the perfect place for a relaxing, peaceful vacation. The mountains, the array of color from the trees and the night sky were breathtaking. We spent most of our time at the house, on the trails or going for walks, but did enjoy getting takeout for dinner at the local restaurants. The Kaplunas were very responsive, gave us lots of suggestions for local spots to visit and were very welcoming. I would absolutely stay here again!

Something Wonderful for Everyone
Stone Walls is as beautiful as it is comfortable as it has fun for the whole family.
The beds were incredibly comfortable with crisp white linens. While the bedrooms afforded privacy needed for two families.
All details were of the highest quality, from the enormous fire pit- including small tables for each Adirondack chair, to the great water pressure and excellent kitchen. But nothing was too prescious. We have 4 kids ages 9-18- they were all comfortable and had fun playing air hockey, finding a reading nook or running around the enormous yard.
This is a wonderful place to stay summer or winter for an extended-family getaway.

Beautiful, spacious, relaxing
We (7 adults) stayed for a week on our annual vacation, and could not have been more pleased with our experience. The house is huge, with spacious rooms and the best-stocked kitchen we’ve ever had in a rental house. The owners were great to communicate with. They gave lots of suggestions for nearby places to go and local swimming holes to check out. There was a menu for Homestyle Hotel there as well which is NOT to be missed, the meal we had there was fantastic. Well detailed instructions on everything we needed to know made things like grilling and check in/out a breeze.
The focal point is the backyard. Huge, with lots of picnic tables and a giant fire pit towards the back of the property with plenty of chairs. The shade (wooden tent) structure was smaller than we originally thought but awesome to decorate and hang out in! It would be a great hang out place for kids.
Overall the house is one of our favorites we stayed in, in the 11 years we’ve done summer vacations. It easily accommodated all of us and made for a relaxing, serene get away. We would love to stay here in the fall and winter to get the full seasonal experience, and are talking about when we can book again!

Chill family vacation @ old unique VT farmhouse
We had such a great time at this property. Our group consisted of a brother and sister, our respective spouses, children, and pets. We ranged in age from 5 to 55, and we wanted to get the kids together for our first big vacation since COVID. I think a lot of people come to this area for wintertime skiing at Okemo, but we actually prefer VT for hiking, biking and swimming. There were some beautiful waterfalls in the area. There was also a nice little swim hole a short ways down the street. The hosts were fantastic; Matt was very responsive and left us plenty of provisions. The residence itself was a really special farmhouse with plenty of space for all of us. Despite its age, it appears recently updated with modern conveniences. The game room was great for a rainy day, and we definitely enjoyed making smores at the fire pit. One caveat: the tower room suite is best for the altitudinally challenged due to the sharply angled ceiling.

Wonderful weekend at Stone Walls
We really enjoyed our Memorial Day weekend at Stone Walls farmhouse in Cavendish. This a very unique historic farmhouse and the house has been beautifully decorated and taken care of. We loved the access to the VAST trail network right out from the back of the property for running and walking. The property is beautiful and our kids enjoyed watching and listening to a family of bluebirds with babies in the bird box in the back yard. Matt was very easy to communicate by text. Would definitely go back for another weekend get away.
