About this cottage rental
I enjoyed Sea Glass Cottage as a vacation rental SO much.... I bought it! You can still enjoy all it's charms and convenient location too.
Onancock is central to all the exciting sights, sounds, and recreation on the Eastern Shore between the historic and scenic Chesapeake Bay and the Ocean. Beaches, boating, kayaking, biking, hiking, wildlife and some of the nations best birdwatching, golf and much much more all at your fingertips! Onancock itself is a delightful small village of interesting and eclectic attractions - excellent restaurants and watering holes, first rate galleries, a wonderful farmers market on Saturdays, old fashioned movie theater with first run movies, live performance venues and so much more. There's a passenger ferry to Tangier at the town wharf for exciting adventures on the bay. Rent bikes and kayaks too. A short trip north takes you to the outstanding beaches and wild pony adventures to be had at Chincoteague and Assateague islands among other nearby destinations. You're going to love it.

My friend were doing a girl's trip and needed a place near the Tangier Island ferry. We got so much more! This house is in a great location...3 minutes from the ferry and restaurants and Walmart! All of which we needed! We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay! Doris was amazing to work with as well! Thank you, Doris!

My cousin and I stayed in the cottage for a girls' weekend. We adore it! We wish we could live here forever! It is clean and comfortable and better than the photos represent. We especially love the layout and charming decor. It is very close to the quaint little town. We enjoyed lunch on the deck at Mallard's. We had lots of fun at The Blarney Stone for karaoke. We highly recommend this cottage!

My husband and I chose this destination as a little getaway. The space was a perfect way to relax and leave everyday cares behind. While Onancock is a little town, it it chock full of different things to do. There are many galleries to explore. There are diverse dining opportunities. If you prefer to explore the surrounding area, there are options within a half hour drive in any direction.
The Sea Glass Cottage is a very clean and quiet space. It is well stocked with all of the amenities of a hotel and more. There is a fully stocked(equipment, utensils, spices, etc.) kitchen as well as a fire pit and BBQ grill. There are magazines, board games and a Roku TV if you just want to relax. The property owner, Doris, is very attentive and will communicate what her expectations are as well as what she offers to fulfill your expectations.
My husband and I are already working on another trip to fit in those things we could not in this stay.

This was my third stay at Sea Glass Cottage, and it was just as nice as I remembered. Everything we needed was there -- well stocked kitchen, beach supplies, lots of fresh towels, books, games, and good services on the TV. The cottage is an easy walk to galleries and restaurants in "downtown" Onancock, and there is information at the cottage about other attractions and activities available on the Eastern Shore. Mallard's provided a delightful dockside dining experience, complete with beautiful sunset and live acoustic music. Second Friday Art Crawl gave us an opportunity to visit several of the galleries exhibiting local art and meet the artists. Didn't use the backyard as much as we hoped to -- it's an expansive space complete with picnic table, grill, and firepit, but it was too hot while we were there to spend much time outside! The cottage is comfortably furnished with a lot of original artwork, and the host is readily available to answer questions. All in all, a perfectly lovely week!

We loved our stay! The cottage was incredibly charming, everything was beautiful and very comfortable. The house felt much bigger than we though it would be based on the pictures.. we wished we could stay so much longer! It was the perfect place for hanging out, making breakfast, and sipping coffee in the morning. It is such a beautiful space, so lovely and relaxing. We really appreciated the A/C after spending time by the water on a hot summer day ; ) We had a question for Doris and she responded quickly with kindness. We can’t wait to come back and stay here again.

The house was as cute as can be. Stream behind property with chairs and fire pit is a big bonus. I loved the claw foot tub with pillow - decadent. Definitely on our Do Again list.

We have stayed in a few vrbo's and this one by far was our favorite! Very comfortable accommodations, convenient location! The town and the people are incredibly nice! We are looking to go back in May 2023! Who knows... Maybe we will relocate! We couldn't have picked a better place! Thank you.

Sea Glass Cottage was a warm and welcoming place to stay -- it's nicely furnished with everything you could need, exceptionally clean and well kept, and the picnic table out back is a nice addition this year! The owner provides a binder of good information about the house and full of great ideas about things to see and places to eat. Mallard's on the Wharf was my favorite for feeling the charm of this little town and enjoying a glass of wine while watching the sunset on the harbor. This was my second stay here, and I'll definitely be back -- thanks, Doris, for such a great place to stay!

Great!
We had a great time at the cottage. There was plenty of room for two adults and two teenagers. The well-stocked kitchen was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed picking mulberries and the kids had fun at the fire pit. We walked around the town, got some delicious donuts, and checked out a few of the restaurants. We spent our days kayaking, fishing, exploring sand dunes, swimming in the bay and at Assateague beach, hiking, and petting ponies and alpacas up in Chincoteague. We will definitely be back.
PS- We had fun watching the cats and kittens next-door, but they all ran from us. There had to be 10 kittens, and a handful of adult cats.We tried to befriend the old deaf one. He like to sleep under my car, but he ran too. He did come back when we put down tuna.

Nice property, only one flaw
The cottage was very nice. It was bigger inside than we expected from the photos. The interior was meticulously clean and the decor is bright and beachy. The kitchen had everything you would need while on vacation. There were plenty of big soft bath towels and the beds were comfortable. The queen bed was a bit soft for my liking, but that's a personal preference; the twin beds were nice and firm.
The only downside was the minefield of cat feces out front. The parking area is covered in crushed clam shells (staying with the beachy theme). The many neighborhood cats seem to think it is their litter box. In the area of two parking spaces I counted no less than 20 deposits of cat feces, with new ones appearing overnight each morning. I realize that the owner has little to no control over this situation, but you need to be aware of the smell out front and having to watch where you step when getting in and out of your car.
Fortunately, we were there in the Fall so the temperatures were cool and we didn't have the windows open so the smells stayed outside. Also, if it was summer I'm sure the smells would have been magnified by the heat. There are some sprays that keep cats away; maybe that's a possible solution. But it's tough when the nextdoor neighbor puts out big piles of cat food on her deck which feeds not only her cats but several others from the neighborhood.
Overall, I would still recommend staying here, the cat feces problem is what takes it down to four stars for us.

a lovely cottage on a nice quiet Onancock residential street. Everything one could want in a VRBO was there. Owner had also added a coffee pot so you had a choice. Spotless accommodations and ample supplies.

Relaxing getaway
The cottage is beautifully decorated, including a lot of original artwork. Much care and thought has clearly gone into making this as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Plenty of living space and a fully equipped kitchen which I didn't use (except for coffee) since there are several terrific restaurants nearby. Onancock is a sweet little town with plenty to see, including a fascinating historical walking tour. Some of the shops and galleries had shortened hours because of the pandemic, and some of the restaurants as well. As long as that is a factor, it's good to call ahead if you want to be sure a place will be open. Owner has a binder of information in the front room with recommendations of things to do and see and restaurants to try, and I wasn't there long enough to exhaust those lists! It's an easy drive north to Assateague or south to Cape Charles to get additional perspectives on the Eastern Shore. Owner is very responsive, and can also provide additional recommendations or ideas. I had a terrific week, and will definitely be back -- hopefully for longer next time! Thanks, Doris!

The cottage was very quaint inside. It was well stocked and clean. Definitely bigger than I thought it would be with plenty of room for the four of us. I would absolutely book this property again.
There is a bit of a feral cat issue in the neighborhood. One cat in particular (my daughter named him/her Blink because it was missing an eye) was frequently in the driveway or near the trash can. It would hiss at you when you tried to take out the trash. This was not an issue for us but something to be aware of if booking.

A wonderful getaway!
This is our second time staying at the Sea Glass Cottage - and it definitely won't be our last! This stay we explored Savage Dunes and Cape Charles, and made sure every meal was only seafood. If you are looking to get away and unplug for a few days, this is a great place to stay!
