The resort is beautifully maintained - a lot of love and care is put into making the beach, the pool area, the lawns etc look as good as possible. The rooms are also beautiful and were cleaned to a high standard everyday. On our final night, the hotel did a ‘movie night’ under the stars - we thought this was a nice touch! The reception would also ensure that things were fixed for us very quickly (for example, there was a storm on our first night, meaning the wifi in our room shut down - however this was fixed immediately by the resort team). The food was also really great and varied - for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
There should be a minibar in the room - this seems like quite a basic thing to have and it would have been nice to have a drink in the room or on our veranda without ordering it from the bar (when we asked about room service, we were told they didn’t really do room service). Also, the hotel is quite oriented around American tourists - for example, we found that there was a bit of an American tipping culture, where we would have to sign a receipt for every single thing we ordered (as opposed to being given one single bill at the end). This meant that 12.5% service was added to everything (even small things like bar drinks, which we wouldn’t have had to pay if there was a mini-bar in the room) and quite a few times we felt slightly pressured to leave a tip on top of the 12.5% charge. The service was never bad and the staff were polite so we didn’t mind, however this is clearly geared around American culture and is quite alien to British and European visitors! Finally, there are two restaurants - the fine dining one and the bistro. Both do great food, however the bistro was still quite expensive, and we thought the fine dining one could have felt a bit more special (for example, they had the same dining furniture and wine menu, and our server didn’t do some things like ask if we wanted to taste the wine / accidentally mixed up an order / took away one of our plates while the other one was eating etc.). This is a small complaint - the food was still delicious. We also thought that the ‘Breakfast Included’ option was a little misleading - we were told that the only breakfast included in our room rate was the ‘continental breakfast’ which is basically two pastries (everything else in the menu you had to pay for).

Everything! So chic, fun and warm atmosphere.

Breakfast was complimentary with our booking and was fantastic. We traveled to quite a few different restaurants and bars and this one was 10/10
It is a bit far from town which has more going on. We rented a golf cart and to the center it was ~20-25mins. Not a fault of the property but be aware that you will most likely want a golf cart if you intend to explore.

very peaceful, friendly staff, beautiful casitas, excellent food, activities (snorkeling was amazing! I was nervous as I’m not a strong swimmer but felt really safe with the staff)
I wish they enforced the quiet rules. there was a lady loudly FaceTiming at the pool for an hour and then later a group of old drunk people came to the pool and were extremely loud. as for the sargassum yes you couldn’t really swim in the water but it’s not the hotels fault. I stayed in other parts of Belize and Mexico and it was far worse.

They pay attention to details. They have everything available for you that you would need to make your stay very comfortable. The place was clean and the staff was great. Both friendly and professional in every way. The food was good and the amenities were nice. I would definitely recommend this to all of my friends and family.
The amount of seaweed that was washing up on the beach every day. No fault of the workers there. They worked from 5:30 in the morning till 6:30 at night. Trying to clear the beaches but it was just too much for them to keep up with. Other than that everything about the place was amazing

An amazing and unique experience that started with a boat ride from the airport and cocktail waiting for us in the lobby upon arrival. This is next generation luxury and adventure combined. You can chill by the ocean / pool or jet out on one of the resorts many boats to dive, snorkel, fish, site see…. The entire staff are very friendly and expert at making sure your stay is perfect. It’s also far enough away from the main area of San Pedro to feel truly private. an example of great service was out snorkel guide Job. He grew up in the area and knows the water, the history, and how to make guests have a great experience.
Leaving.

excellent staff and good food particularly the backed goods
The fact that they wouldn’t let substitute anything in the included continental breakfast even at same value or paying the difference was rather cheap and irritating

Everything was great: the cabanas (rooms) and restaurants are beautiful, the staff is adorable and always helpful and caring, the food at the restaurant is delicious and made with fresh products, the views from the room on the numerous birds and squirrels are unbelievable, the sunset on the sea from the deck is beautiful...
Finding something to complain about in Matachica would be very hard...

It's paradise. Super romantic, relaxing, fun with the activities, the workers there are super nice and the food at the restaurant... just delicious. They even had a vegetarian option, which was amazing! The cocktails at the bar soo good! We only regret not staying longer. Looking forward to go back!
So yes, paradise :)
Expensive, but worth it! :D

The continental breakfast was INCREDIBLE! So much to eat! Love the bread and fruit selection. And I loved the fact that I was able to purchase beautiful handcrafted souvenirs from the local man on the beach <3.
Actually, I would have appreciated chairs that were a bit more roomy in the restaurant, considering I saw men and women of all sizes at the resort. But they were especially small at the concierge's office. It was virtually impossible to sit comfortably while booking our tours, even for my daughter, who is not overweight at all.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Loved the meals at both restaurants. Beautiful setting and view.
For the price, I felt like the golf cart rental should haven been included. We also unfortunately had a bug problem in our room, which we made management aware of as we departed. It put a damper on our perception of the property.

The hotel is fabulous, they really take the time to think of every small detail that make a big difference. Welcome drink on arrival when you hop off the boat, the unlimited refills of cold water in your YETI bottle, and the food is delicious!
Unfortunately the seaweed was quite bad when we were there, but not the hotel’s fault and they had staff clearing it around the clock. The hotel is also about 30 mins north of town (on bikes or golf carts) which suited us fine as we wanted to relax by the pool for a few days, but something to keep in mind if you want to visit the town often.

Beautifully maintained hotel helpful staff
Prices of food and drink very high. Adding government tax and mandatory tip equating to an additional 25% on top of already high prices in US dollars not local currency leaves a bad taste. Breakfast included ; no choice of coffee no eggs it’s miserly. When paying 460 usd a night bed and breakfast it’s mean spirited and for this reason I would not return trying to extort money from people does not buy repeat business

I loved everything about Matachica - from the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms to the kind and friendly staff everywhere you went. The location is quiet and away from busy San Pedro but you are only a short 20 (albeit bumpy) ride into town.
The free rentals were a good part of our stay but we really enjoyed the paid activities that were available through Matachica. From Mr. Chris, Job, Henry, Geo and Elliot (and more whose names I didn't write down!), each staff member that we met was accommodating, knowledgeable and kind. We highly recommend you book through Matachica if you are considering visiting San Pedro. You will not regret it.
This was our first time visiting Belize and we can't wait to come back to visit Matachica.
We visited in November and the mosquitoes were pretty bad, however, Matachica provided each room with complimentary bug spray and our room had a net around the bed. This is out of Matachica's control but something others should be aware of if you need additional mosquito protection.

The property had an AMAZING view! They offered complimentary water activities as well as different excursions if you wanted to leave the property and see what the Barrier Reef has to offer.
When I arrived at the property I was greeted by Belizean police officers, was the most embarrassing thing to ever happen to me. I’m not certain how the person that scammed me even knew what time I was checking in but one could assume that this private property provided them with my arrival time. I thought that was strange considering I’m use to my identity being confidential but I guess things are different in Belize. The hotel manager of operations was kind enough to help me resolve this matter but the damage was already done. No one alerted me that the police were even on the premises so of course I felt blindsided considering I just paid the gentleman for a rental golf cart the day prior to my arrival but he claimed I didn’t and so I was forced to pay him an additional $200 dollars usd because I didn’t have any legal defense prepared for this embarrassing situation. The lesson I learned was to first never trust golf rental spots that are located in scrap yards and to make sure you stay with a property that has your safety at interest. I’m a solo traveler and anything could’ve happened to me due to my identity and arrival information being leaked. overall the stay was pleasant aside from over hearing employees talking with their peers about the police coming for me. I wish I could’ve rated this property 5 stars but due to that embarrassing situation in front of other guest (it happened in the hotel lobby) I know now to make sure you book with a private property who keeps your identity confidential. I travel almost every two months and never had anything close to this happening to me so word of advice STAY AWAY FROM BELIZE! The locals will scam you and no one can protect you. I contacted the US embassy to make them aware of everything that transpired. Your best bet is to stay at a secret beach with security on the property.

This little slice of paradise is the perfect resort to stay in when visiting Ambergris Caye. The rooms are amazing, the pool is beautiful, the food is delicious and the staff is super helpful and friendly. We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer.
Nothing.

Incredibly friendly and attentive staff who have lots of recommendations for finding the best local spots. Make sure to eat at local spot Sundeck , just a five minute walk north up the beach from the hotel. The Mayan and jerk fish are out of this world. Secret beach a must but can get pretty rowdy so go earlier in the day unless you’re ready to party. Downtown best spots to eat Elvis and El Fagon. Make sure you get a grilled whole cooked fish at both.
