Location perfect for the town and clean and comfortable
A little dated
4.0
The area and the property are quaint, traditional and pleasant. It's in an extremely convenient location for various walks and the town. The area is relaxed, pleasant and feels safe.
Very good value for money.
Communication. I emailed three times whether it would be ok to arrive at 3pm. The first time I received "Please ask closer to the time". The other two times were completely ignored.
The bathroom door doesn't close properly and is hard to lock (although you could put that down to the character of the old property).
No parking outside the property (although there is ample parking on the street nearby, assuming you're not there at the height of tourist season).

We like the location of the hotel, it is close to Peveril castle, Peak cavern. and easy to walk to many restaurants.
1 bathroom seems not enough for the size of the hotel which can effort up to 6 guests.
The area in the hotel is just room and beds, just that. No space for putting the big luggage and opening it.
The access way to the facility is just a narrow stairway and no parking, we need to find the parking, bring the luggage from far away parking and lift them up the stairway. And the day we going out it's raining, we need to get wet getting the car and carry luggage down from hotel one by one to the car.
This place may be suitable for backpackers who come with the rucksack not for group of family or old man.

The location is great.
It smells musty. The blinds don’t fit the windows, the bedroom one where I slept is about 12 inches short, I phoned & was told to roll towels & throws up & put on window sill. obviously told other guest what to do although the owner had told me no one ever had mentioned it before, funny that when she was quick to tell me a new blind was on order. They need new double mattresses as they sink in the middle. The cutlery/crockery need a good clean, have to wash everything first.

Excellent location for all the pubs and lovely walks all nearby. Cottage quite modern, lounge a nice area. Bathroom had nice hot shower. Kitchen was well equipped for a short stay.
Bedrooms quite small, nowhere to hang anything.
The outside steps up to the cottage could benefit from a light
4.5
Great location for many local walks and visits to other villages.
Unfortunately there was only 4 knives and 3 coffee mugs. There were 5 of us at the cottage. We would have liked some information on how to recycle and dispose of the domestic waste. We found some bins in the local car park.

location next to me to centre of town. all well known walks and attractions close by. cottage very well thought with excellent facilities l
could have done with washing for those staying more than a week

Brilliant location in the village. Very clean and tidy inside.
We couldn't get past the fact that there was no proper table and chairs to sit down inside and eat our meals. Also, we missed not having a patio or bit of lawn to sit outside as the one entrance/exit area is privately owned by neighbours so can't have a bbq. Also,7 ok no private parking.

Handy location
No access for unloading/loading.
Info about the unneighbourly neighbours was inside the property. This could have been better communicated.
For mature groups this could be tricky.
Half a roll of toilet paper for 6 people over two nights - not really sufficient.
Only 4 knives and 5 forks. We made do with. Spoons.
Flickering light in one bedroom. Bedside lamp in 2nd bedroom not working. There were some spare bulbs but not the correct ones.
Couldn't find a dustpan and brush for floor.

location.
quite cramped for 6 people. only one bathroom and no outside space

Stunning location.
We didn’t mind at all that you cannot park outside the cottage, or that it is above a fish & chip shop, or that the wi-fi keeps kicking you off.
However, we were really disappointed with the cottage - it was £217 per night, but the standard was poor. I have never stayed anywhere where the owners seemed LESS interested in their guests having a nice, comfortable stay.
Obviously, in renovating, they decided to squeeze in the max amount of beds/bedrooms in order to get the max amount of ££££.
There were 4 of us staying in dry weather - I cannot imagine what it would be like with 6 people staying there during a wet spell, as it is very small, and there is NOWHERE to dry stuff.
All the rooms are cramped.
In the two ‘double’ bedrooms there’s barely enough room to open the drawers.
The kitchen is tiny, and there is nowhere to sit down and eat together - you are supposed to eat off small foldable tables in front of the tv.
There is nowhere to hang clothes, no coat-hangers even.
The chests of drawers are cheap and nasty, difficult to open and close. Budget carpets. Plastic plants.
There is/are no local information / recommendations / Visitors’ Book … though there is PLENTY of information about their other cottages (as if!)!
For £200+ per night, I think the following ought to be provided:
>Milk and teabags (has anyone reading this ever stayed anywhere that didn’t provide this?)
>Shower gel (ditto)
>Better stocked kitchen - kitchen roll, sponge and/or brush for washing up, cafetière …
>Freezer compartment
>Airer, coat hangers, somewhere to dry towels, swimming costumes, wet coats and boots.
>Blind in the bedroom that comes all the way down to the windowsill.
>Socket close to the mirror
>Decent shower curtain
>Dining table
Property owners - please note that most of the complaints I have made here have already been made by previous guests in the above thread.

Really central location with a great view from the lounge
It is accessed on foot only up stone steps so loading and unloading wasn't as easy as at a place with vehicle access. One of the steps was loose and there is no handrail so harder fir those less sure of foot. Also, it's right above the chippy! Might not have booked it if I'd known that but you actually couldn't smell it much.

Location perfect

The location is unrivalled, with everything in Castleton within walking distance. the cottage is cosy & homely and we really enjoyed the festive touches that were added for our New Year break.
Getting hot water was abit of a game but the hosts were so helpful & we got there in the end! and the owners were correct, the neighbours were not neighbourly hahaha but they absolutely didn’t ruin our stay and I wouldn’t let that deter you from booking at all!

Cosy cottage in centre of a lovely village perfect for pre Christmas get together
Being picky, not the best shower and no heating in lounge but didn't really detract from a lovely time that we spent here

really comfy property in a great central location , host really helpful and accommodating
tricky taps! - a really minor issue
4.5
Excellent location, perfect for walks and local sightseeing. Surprisingly spacious! Comfortable beds and cosey lounge, with a large smart TV. Kitchen is well equipped, everything you need. Good size bath, warm water and well heated.
A microwave in the kitchen would be an ideal addition! Taps in the bathroom are placed in an awkward position making it hard to turn off and the sink taps don’t quite go over the sink bowl. Shower curtain could probably do with a refresh. Very hard to find negatives to the property!

Very clean , beautiful and comfortable
The heater works ineffectively.

The location was very central. Within easy walking distance of several good pubs serving food and the local shops. Although the property has no parking on site, there was ample on street parking nearby and if this was busy, then a huge public car park was within short walking distance.Helen, the host was very hospitable. During our stay we got soaked in the rain. Helen provided us with a clothes horse to dry our clothes.
The fridge had no freezer section so not able to freeze ice packs for cool bag however we got by - it was not a big problem
