Guest Access:
This house is in the perfect location for walking but also has many options. There are public scooters available everywhere here. The house is on a main bus route if you need to leave the neighborhood. Street parking is never a problem on this street. Mainly due to all the parking lots provided by the city.
The Neighborhood:
The lively Fan District, often simply called The Fan, is centered on the Virginia Commonwealth University campus, where the Altria Theater hosts concerts and plays. The area is dotted with grand Queen Anne-style homes and Tudor Revival mansions, including the Branch Museum of Architecture and Design, which offers tours. Old-time barbershops and Cuban restaurants line the streets, alongside bars with live music.
Colorful Carytown is a bohemian district centered around a stretch of West Cary Street, with indie boutiques, record stores, and vintage emporiums. Quirky murals brighten alleyways and buildings housing cool cafes, bakeries, and health-conscious lunch spots, while evening crowds fill farm-to-table restaurants and craft cocktail bars. Operating since 1928, the Byrd Theater screens movies in opulent surroundings.
Museum District also known as Upper Fan, the compact Museum District is home to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, with works by Picasso and Fabergé. Nearby, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture houses exhibits on state heritage in an elegant neoclassical building. Brick row homes and detached townhouses in hues of spearmint, navy, and yellow line the streets, and old-growth trees and bold street murals add further color.
Getting Around:
This location is perfect for walking and easy to find your way around. However, there are other options to get around that are convenient. This house is on one of the main bus routes if you need to leave the neighborhood. It is common to find scooters all around this location which make for easy and convenient transportation. Ride sharing is common in the area and would be no more than a few minutes wait.
Other Things to Note:
We have a newly landscaped back yard with allot of grass to enjoy outside. the back yard is fenced in so its perfect for dogs or kids to play. There is a large tree that provides allot of shade. The house has a private balcony in the back and a front porch.

I booked this place for a work trip. Great location. Clean, quiet and charming stay. Would highly recommend!!

We felt like everything was clean and tidy. They had items for pets and children available if you need it. Also nice that there were TVs in each bedroom.

Our Men’s group had a retreat and this site was perfect for us. Many of us are from Capitol Hill in DC and felt right at home in Carytown.
4.8
Very easily accessed and right by several local shops and eateries, the property was clean and quaint, serving our purposes perfectly!

Very impressed with everything about this property. Five stars, will be staying again. Loved that it’s dog friendly and the fenced in yard was perfect. The hosts surpassed our expectations by providing toiletries as well as a bottle of wine, bottled water and snacks. Walking around Cary town was such fun and we were in the perfect location to not need to drive hardly at all.

We enjoyed our stay here. The home is very clean and we loved all the character and updates in the home. Communication with the host was always quick and prompt. The front porch was so nice to sit on and Cary St is one street over with lots of shops and restaurants.
Overall, a great stay!

This was a wonderful location near downtown Richmond and Carytown. The listing was just a little deceiving with no living room space. It is noted in upper case but I some how glanced over it. The big TV is in the room with the bunk beds. It worked out for the kids to watch Netflix or YouTube on their own! My husband and I enjoyed watching Netflix on our personal device in bed. So not a huge deal.
We couldn’t find the outside trash cans to throw away our dog bags or trash.
The warm welcome with waters, snacks and wine was a great touch! Having a shared back yard was fun for the dogs. Be aware it is an upstairs unit. I loved the style and decor. Beds were super comfy. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your house! It was a great experience!
I would definitely stay again!

We stayed in this townhome last Christmas and liked it so much, we decided to stay there again this year. I'll quickly list the CONS and PROS, but I want to put up front we would have no hesitancy staying there again. However, I reserve five star reviews for VRBO properties that check all of the boxes. Do not consider a four star rating to mean it's not worth renting:
CONS -
The townhome is older so it has issues with heating. The vents are located in the ceiling rather than the floor, so it can get a bit cold, especially if you have the record freeze we had last year. Further, there is a large open space leading from the street to stairs that tends to get very cold, especially if the downstairs apartment is not heated.
There are also multiple apartments on this property. You will see and hear other tenants and their animals if they are staying there with you.
As mentioned, the property is a older (turn of the centure) and there's a lot of rotting wood and chipped paint.
Only one bathroom. Makes it tough on a family of five.
PROS -
Can't beat the location. One block from the shops and restaurants of Carytown, plus multiple grocery stores and pharmacies within easy walking distance.
The bed in the master bedroom is huge and very comfortable. Lots of closet space in there, too.
Kitchen has a gas stove which is fantastic.
The owner, Mei, and her partner are extremely responsive to issues and in communicating with you. They are super nice people and check out was a breeze.
Again, I know everyone wants a five star rating, but I believe in honesty. This is a great townhome in a fantastic location, but it does suffer a bit from the fact it is an older building.
Regardless, we would not hesitate to stay there again if allowed.

Great location and a lovely place. Would definitely stay there again.

This property was ok. It met our bare minimum needs but the owners were very helpful and quick to respond. Initially, we were lacking the basics that you would expect in a kitchen such as a can opener, peeler, measuring cups, pot holders, scissors, etc. When brought to the attention of the owner, she did respond quickly and purchased most of those items. She was very pleasant to deal with.
The place was reasonably clean but could use some freshening up with paint as it is showing signs of wear.
Location was nice- lots of conveniences in walking distance.
The on street parking was only for a day as the city put up tow away signs due to road work the day after we arrived. Not the fault of the owner of course, but it did make parking less convenient.

Good location, clean and cheerful.

We enjoyed this place very much. The fenced backyard was wonderful, there were snacks and water upon arrival, the space is well appointed and has historical charm.
4.8
The Carytown location was amazing, plenty of shopping and dining options right around the corner. Also, it's an easy walk to Scott's Addition and the ton of breweries out that way. A short drive to Topgolf. No shortage of things to do.
The rental was very comfortable for 6 people and could have easily fit a 7th. All of the beds were very comfortable. Amenities like soap, shampoo, conditioner, and coffee were all a nice touch. The host, Mei, was very welcoming and communicative.
All around great!

We had a delightful stay at this well-equipped, well-laid-out flat. There are two comfortable bedrooms, one with twin beds, and a queen/twin bunk set in the corner of the TV/living area. The kitchen was properly stocked. A lovely front porch looks out over a Richmond side street. Walking distance to a dozen restaurants, with the Cary Street shopping district just a block behind. We loved it and hope to return.

Some friends and I traveled in from Wisconsin to watch some racing for the weekend. The place was very clean and was in a great location with plenty of places to eat and enjoy some beverages. Communication was short with the property manager but she did respond to questions promptly and accurately. Would definitely recomend.

We enjoyed our stay here, the apartment is nice. I was surprised that there was no living room, as the pics seemed to show that there was one. It was actually the third bedroom, which has a couch and a tv in it. My bad for not inspecting the pics closely enough. It worked out fine though. The house is only one block from Carytown and a short walk to a couple of supermarkets, which was super convenient. The outside of the house is in rough shape in some spots. It's sad because it's a historic home and it could be so beautiful. I still loved the house, I just love history and hate to see old buildings not get the full attention they deserve. The grass outside the property was also not maintained. The inside of the property was better taken care of, nice and clean and updated. Beautiful tall ceilings and historic character. The laundry room in the basement was an amazing bonus. We were there a week and it came in super handy. The fenced in yard was also great for our little dog. Overall we were very happy with this place and would definitely stay again. The neighborhood is very cool.

We had a great time!

The property has a very cozy vibe and very short walking distance from main strip that made travel very easy.
4.8
Excellent location
Great location, easy access to VCU and locally owned restaurants. I was nervous that on-street parking would be difficult with a Suburban—no hassles at all.

Perfect location
Wonderful property, walking distance to great restaurants and the museum district. Great location!!

The owners were very pleasant and helpful, The house was immaculate. The kitchen is large and bright and the group gathering place since the couch and TV are in one of the bedrooms.. There were minor issues inside the house.,e.g. a bedroom door wouldn't close.. The location is a plus. The biggest negative is the peeling paint and rotten porch floor boards at the entrance to the house. This detracts from what could be an attractive greeting for visitors.

Great location in Carytown
This property was minutes from all the action in Carytown. Walking distance from eateries, shopping, and more. Beds were super comfortable and the A/C was great. Washer & Dryer are shared and located in the basement. Not necessarily a negative but just of note. Would recommend staying here.

The property is ideally located. Walking distance to many shops and eateries. Driving distance to many activities. Very clean. We especially enjoyed sitting on the comfortable front porch. The home is surrounded by unique and well-kept Virginia homes. However, I think it should be noted that the unit is on the second floor, approximately 18 stairs to navigate with vacation luggage and groceries.

We loved staying at Mei’s apartment! It’s so clean, bright and welcoming. Water glasses would be nice, but that’s the only thing the place lacks. It is in an excellent location, the beds are so comfy, and the kitchen and bath are bright and spacious. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!
