About this cabin rental
Please note that lake levels fluctuate throughout the year due to weather, precipitation, Tennessee Valley Authority power needs and other factors. Jackson Mountain Rentals and VTrips are not responsible for these lake conditions or their impact on stationary docks, floating docks, or recreational activities like swimming, boating, or fishing. For the most current lake level information, please check with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) official office or website.
This true log cabin is nestled in the privacy of the woods with over 260' of shoreline on Douglas Lake! The extra wide path to the boat dock is steep so please be careful and watch your step. At the bottom of the trail is a nice deck for relaxing. It's only a few steps from there down to the u-shaped boat dock that has a seating area and also includes a jet ski attachment and a ladder for climbing out of the lake after jumping in and swimming around your cove. The lake front is wonderful on its own but the three stories of amazing indoor and outdoor spaces of the cabin really put this over the top. The main entrance walks into an open floor plan for the kitchen, bar top area, dining and living room with cathedral ceilings, open truss design and oversized windows in all the right places, making sure you always have a nice view without even having to step out on the spacious main level deck. An extra wide staircase leads you upstairs to your master suite featuring an ensuite bath with a stand up shower and a jetted soaking tub. This floor also has a loft area with a daybed/trundle bed for more guests and its own deck that spans the width of the home. The lower level includes another living room, another daybed/trundle option as well as two more bedrooms separated by a full Jack and Jill bathroom. On this lowest level you can step right out on to your partially covered concrete patio and enjoy the grilling area as well. Or just relax and enjoy the Great Smoky Mountain air and beautiful Douglas Lake
This beautiful wooded location offers a private vacation experience and fantastic views from the large upper and lower decks. The decks feature plenty of outdoor seating and a charcoal grill (Just bring charcoal). Being in the Great Smoky Mountain area also means hills. These hills are what provide those amazing views overlooking Beautiful Douglas Lake. Come to Moonside Retreat and you will make memories that will last a lifetime with your family and friends. The Cove and the Sunsets are calling for you! Come experience it for yourself.

We had a great time at Moonside retreat! The cabin was clean and just what you would picture sitting in the mountains of TN. Everyone had an amazing time. We were able to tie our boat to the boat dock without an issue. The kids enjoyed swimming and tubing! The road leading up to the house and the driveway were a little tricky hauling a boat trailer but we did it and everyone will remember our vacation together for years to come. The property management group was very responsive to all my questions.

We enjoyed our stay. We had a large group of 13 and everyone had their own bed. The cabin was clean and decorated nicely. The walk to the lake was what you would expect, lots of steps, but they were not steep. The dock was nice, we had a nice place to dock our boat and the kids could swim.If you are coming with a large group prepare to wash your towels daily. There was a raccoon that got in the trash nightly despite it being in the trash bin, a better bin or way to lock it would be great. Overall it was a great place.

Ill just be straight to the point. The outside and property seem to feel dirty. There is a good bit of garbage scattered along the hillside and around house. Half the decorations are broken, filthy, or still have hanging price tags. All balcony railings are unstable and wobbly. The jacuzzi tub leaks into the kitchen, didn't even test the jets. Various outlets were exposed or broken. Fire pit is rusted through, no fire wood. Garden hoses and other various items laying outside on the ground and dirty. Ac was on the fritz half our stay. Faucet in half bath broken. Broken ping pong table, box fan, and light bulbs burnt out. Beautiful area and easy location, very quiet and private. Lake is beautiful and dock is perfect for water play. Chairs on deck are broken. Creepy owl in master bedroom rafters, hopefully not a camera as there are a couple outside of the house. Bring batteries for the remotes!

Vacation
I did not get my door codes until 420pm.We enjoyed the location and what should have been privacy, but a man had docked his boat on the private dock. He claimed he had permission to be there because he previously worked on the house. He was there at various times and parked in the grass across the road. I have 4 teenage daughters and there are no window coverings on the lower level, I am sure because of the view. However strangers are walking through the property at various hours and we thought we rented a private area, it was uncomfortable at times. He actually pulled in to the driveway on Friday night and when my family member went out he said oh I thought you guys left. Then he said I worked on this house and I know every inch of it. It creeped her out. The upstairs closet is locked in the master bedroom so there was no where to store anything. There are issues with all the doors, they are not square and don't lock. The ping pong table is broken and still sitting there. There are random things just lying around, like Christmas decorations on the top of refrigerator. The bear proof recepticles are missing and we had 14 people for 7 days with one mid week pick up, which led to us keeping the garbage in the entry way.

Nice house and good location
The house was nice and pretty much just like pictures. Inside of house was clean and enough space for everyone. We only had 6 adults in our group. Kitchen wasn’t as stocked as other VRBO properties I’ve stayed. And outdoor seating was a bit lacking and old. Water pressure wasn’t very good and for some reason upstairs toilet didn’t always want to flush. Beds are not very comfortable, like there are dips on both sides. We knew there was quite a hike to the dock ( which could also use some care) but 120 steps to be exact. However that seems to be pretty normal looking at all the other houses from the lake. Just letting you know in case you have someone that can’t do that many stairs. With all that being said the location on the lake and from pigeon forge area was great and overall vacation week was good. And I would definitely consider staying here again. V trips was easy to work with also I just didn’t like how the cancellation policy was different than VRBO. You only have 2 days to cancel after booking. I felt like I had to buy the insurance for that reason

Beautiful property but very poorly maintain. I was never sent check-in information. I had to reach out to Jackson Mountain Homes to get door key. Porches were covered with pollen, dirt and leaves. We had to scrub those before we could even sit outside. The downstairs floor was covered with dirt and bugs. It was obvious that the floors weren’t even swept beforehand. The grass was overgrown. There was no trash bin outside so we had to take trash off 25 minutes out of our way. The temperature of the cabin wasn’t consistent throughout levels. The down stairs was so cold and the upstairs would feel like an oven. The water pressure and temperature also was not consistent. The property would be a wonderful place to stay if the company would take pride in keeping it clean and kept up.

Worst Vacation Ever
First issue was they didn’t give the door code at 4pm as stated in the emailed. I had to call three times and finally got someone to answer and we got the code at 4:23pm. Then the cabin was nasty with dust, cobwebs, dirty toilets, and the floor turned your feet black. They only had a small bathroom size trash can which didn’t take long to fill up with 10 people, so we had piles of black trash bags in the dining room because there was no outside trash can or waste removal service. The water pressure in the showers was nonexistent. And the one and only tub had a broken faucet and drain which they claimed they couldn’t fix even though my father in-law was able to at least make it work long enough to bath 4 toddlers. We would have never booked a cabin with a non working tub since we had four toddlers. The railing on the third floor balcony wasn’t secure and when maintenance came out they said it wasn’t dangerous and no one could fall, the entire railing would shake when touched. The patio had huge cracks all the way across the length of it. It caused our kids to trip and fall every time they were on it. The dock had two rotten steps that would bend in when stepped on. The fire pit was completely rusted out. Mold on the bathroom ceiling around the vent and fan, the stove was covered in grease. The windows on the doors were covered with hand prints and spider webs. The master bedroom had no closet because the one there was locked. The master was also 20degrees hotter than the other floors because they had only one unit for three floors. The water smelled like rotten eggs. Needless to say this was our worst vacation from the time we arrived. We had to be the maid and maintenance! Completely a waste of money and we will never stay there again. Also when we called with these complaints nothing was done! DON’T waste your money because this place is trash! Better off staying in a Budget Inn.

Needs updates
Lots of privacy. Small kitchen garbage can had to buy our own to accommodate family. No outside can. Had to pile garbage in foyer. Called to get outside can they just entered home and took out garage after we asked them just to place can outside and we would take it out. Gas fireplace didnt work. Did tell them they could go in to fix it but never got a response. Upstairs bathroom toilet kept needed plunging. No problems with other ones, Breaker tripped for hot water, We flipped breaker back on. No where to hang clothes in master and no dressers anywhere in house, Very few hangers to accommodate not having dressers. We bought TV stands to put suitcases on in bedrooms and bought hangers to hang clothes in downstairs closets. We bought a drying clothes rack to hang our clothes on in the master., Outside grilling station patio not cleaned. Temperature in house very uneven. Freezing in lower lever when heat on too hot upstairs to warm upstairs. Need to consider updating HVAC to accommodate all levels evenly, With updates to these concerns it would be a nice place to stay but when I think of vacation I dont want issues I want relaxation. I would personally not stay here again.
