Beautiful home in great location for seeing the Hamakua Coast

We really enjoyed this space! Well stocked and great for families with an amazing view
4.7
spacious and clean except many kitchen pans etc. - could be more homey

We loved this place so much! Thoughtful furnishings, a very nice house, but best of all is the location! We saw whales, stars, goats, wild pigs, sunrises, ships and barges, beautiful waves, and fruit trees. It was peaceful and quiet—away from all the people and bustle. But a quick trip to Hilo and other small towns with amenities. Perfect location to go to Volcanoes or just anywhere on the island.

We loved the seclusion of the property. It was peaceful and quiet! The porch was wonder to sit on and enjoy the views. It was open and spacious, had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. The book with all the o for in it was wonderful.

I would stay here again, but there are pros and cons and some things to be aware of. We had six adults in our party.
The view is amazing, we saw whales swimming by. The sheep are so cute and very friendly. The house was clean and the kitchen was well equipped. We did a lot of cooking. The location was really great…very quiet and peaceful. Nice road to walk on behind the house. No air conditioning, but with all of the windows open, there was a great cross breeze. Many fans included in each room, both ceiling fans and fans on the floor. You do have to supply your own drinking water, which I don’t remember reading in the description. We had a little trouble getting in. A code was provided for the top lock, but there was also a key needed. It was in a lock box, but the code was not provided. Luckily, we were able to get someone on the phone, with the phone number provided. There are two full bathrooms, only one is on the bottom floor with the three bedrooms. One is upstairs with the kitchen, dining and living rooms. Two of the three beds were really uncomfortable. The whole bed shakes when someone rolls over and is quite loud. Also, it felt like the middle of the beds was sunken in. The trash can outside is very small, the email I received said we had to take any overflow trash to the landfill. There are two landfills close by, but they are not open everyday. We almost missed our flight, attempting to find an open landfill. Some very nice parks and views close by…be sure to drive on the 4 mile scenic road nearby.

We loved how peaceful the location is. It was well stocked, a large space and had a nice view. Some spices and pantry items were nice to have since the location is remote. The box of cookies was a nice touch. Good value / price compared to similar size places on the island. The goats were nice esp if you have kids. Brochures & top tips guide for restaurants etc was handy. Leaving us sunscreen and lots of towels + nice toiletries was appreciated.

We LOVED this property! The lawn, the balcony, the views! The kids had lots of room to run around and the sounds of nature were soothing and relaxing.

North of Hilo, this property is private and peaceful. Gorgeous view from large lanai. Well equipped and comfortable. Great jumping off point to explore, or just stay put and gaze out.

The house is exactly as shown in the photos with that gorgeous view out over the water. The house is well stocked so just pick up a few groceries. Things to be aware of before booking this unit. This is not the resort side of the island. It is quiet and very rural. Incredibly peaceful. It’s 20 miles down the coast to Hilo. There is a nice market 7 minutes or so up the coast in Papaaloa. The last thing is finding the driveway. It can be tricky as the speed limit is 55 on the road and the driveway is a small unmarked opening in the tall cane grass. There is a short stretch of guardrail on the opposite side of the road from the driveway that I used as a landmark night and day. Fortunately traffic is light on the road by the house.

Great home, great location, and very clean. We loved the sheep and beautiful property.

Waking up every morning to the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean while enjoying our coffee was a pure treat. The house was spacious and very comfortable for our family. The large fenced in yard was great for the kids to run around in while we watched from the second floor balcony. They had good conversations with the sheep in the field next door. The house had everything we needed. You are nice and secluded up there but keep in mind it is north of Hilo so plan accordingly so you do not have to run back to town frequently. We are already planning our next trip and we are looking forward to renting again!!

The property was great in many ways. It had beautiful ocean view picture perfect scenery. Calm relaxing perfect spot tobgwt away from it all and just enjoy the peaceful natural side that the Big Island isbknow for. I was on Hawaii for over 5 weeks & stayed here for 4 of those weeks. It was for the most part but great there but few things that should be be addressed. First I the grass surrounding the house is very thick It is a combination of something planted but the invasive grass that is surrounding the lot in front & to the south of its have caused the large elephant to to spread there. You wouldn't notice as probably as just a tourist. I on the other hand own property on the island know that this grass can cause rashes & irritated most people. Make sure if laying out at the house to get a chill day at the house to spread a larger blanket & then a tall a most people will get some irritation from it. That's not the bad thing though when we would stay local at the house for several day we would lay out in the fro t of the water catchment tank just to the north east of the home. Great place to get a sun tan & normal there is a nice ocean breeze to make it Great spot to lounge have a picnic etc. The property owner should warn people that there are very deep wholes in the grass that the over grown elephant grass can hide. I unfortunately had to learn the hard way. With almost 2 weeks left on my trip I Was going to move one of the chair from the lower patio to the grass area to relax read a book & get some sun. I stepped into an almost 6- 8" deep whole & severely Sprained my ankle. Not fun when you have to go and get ankle brace at Walmart & where supportive shoe the entire rest of my trip.
An elderly person could have been serious hurt. Next the screen on the home are the original ones that came with the windows I assume. They provide almost no protection against the small mosquito that can go through the wide mesh. Also many of them have been bent over the year probably to remove for cleaning this led to just open wholes. I don't like AC and would rather leave all the screen opening open all day and night to keep the home cool & breeze coming through. I noticed several prior guests took it upon them selfsame to tape sround the cracks in the screen to Limits the ammout of Mosquito. This did help much. Last thing was WiFi. It was not acceptable for a person working remotely I has to spend money to buy a hotspot so I could send & work emails.

Overall good place for large groups
Place was clean and easy to find. Location was good. About 25 minutes from Hilo. Communication with property manager was quick. The biggest negative about the property was no hot running water. There wasn’t anywhere on the listing as well preparing us for that. We felt that should be disclosed before booking! Also, the fire alarm had been removed and listing shows house is equipped with proper safety measures. We also didn’t like being asked to start load of laundry. It feels more unsanitary not knowing when they come to remove from washer and can you guarantee the previous guests did it properly. View was very pretty!

The house was a wonderful place to stay. We used it mostly as a home base to come back to after spending the day traveling the island.
If you spend more time at the house, it is definitely a quiet, peaceful setting that allows just sitting and enjoying the view, playing in the yard, or walking up the hill beyond. The house has everything you need. There is no AC, but it cooled quickly each night with the breeze when we returned.
We live in a rural area, so we are used to driving. This location allows you to get most anywhere on the island in 1-2 hours and the scenery makes it very enjoyable. Hilo and Waimea grocery stores are about 20-30 minutes away. There are many scenic walks, state parks, and zipline tours nearby. Hawaii Zipline was very nice and just 10 minutes away.
Our favorite food finds were Tex in Honoka'a (food and malasadas) , Kula Shave Ice in Hilo. Aloha Kayak Manta Ray snorkel was great- the group was small and personable with concern for the Mantas a priority for the owner. Hilo farmers market had amazing fruits and veggies, along with crafts Wednesday and Saturday.
We had to take the garbage 1x as we cooked each day and had purchases with packaging. If you mostly eat out you likely won't have to bother. The transfer stations are very close and super easy to use-drive in and dump. Don't let the garbage removal stop you from enjoying this house.
One word of caution- follow the arrival instructions and use Google maps to find the house. Google will get you right to the house. Apple maps will not.

Wonderful. Few things that we mentioned. Two people could not take a shower at the same time in the two bathrooms. The water would just stop In one of them we had to rotate showers and with 6 that was a little difficult Gorgeous views. Spacious home l. Will be back.

The location of this property (about 15-20 minutes from Hilo) can't be beat. It's quiet and the scenery and views are absolutely stunning.
That said, there are a few things that aren't mentioned in the description of the listing that might have changed our minds about staying at the house.
1. The cleaning fee is ridiculously high (double to triple) in comparison to other VRBO homes that we have stayed at. Generally I wouldn't complain about this, but there were dirty dishes in the cabinets and you are expected to haul your own trash to a transfer station if you accumulate more than what can fit in the already undersized trash can on the property. You are also expected to start a load of towels before you leave and all dishes are supposed to be put away. The lint trap on the dryer was also full (I know it wasn't from us because there was dog hair with the lint and our dog was at home) Based on this, you don't seem to get much for the high fee.
2. The internet connection is via satellite due to the remote location. It is spotty at best and there is a data cap. Generally, this wasn't an issue for us because we weren't on vacation to use the internet. If you plan on working remotely, this might not be the best location for you. Cellular service is also hit and miss, so I'm not even sure a hotspot would be viable.
3. The dishwasher doesn't work very well. We ended up doing all of our dishes by hand. The property management company has "please conserve resources" info in the house, but this doesn't seem to apply to dishes.
4. Be prepared to buy all of your condiments, spices, etc Most of the Vrbo properties that we have stayed at least have the very basic from previous guests, but Turnkey informed us in our check out instructions that all items like that must either be taken with you or thrown away. Seems like a waste of resources.
5. There is no local guidebook on the property like at most Vrbo's. Everything is corporate feeling and impersonal. "Pick up brochures at the airport" is their advice.
6. The "pet friendly" part of the listing is deceiving. You can have pets on the property, but they aren't allowed in the house. This ended up not being a huge deal for us because we left our dog at home (the process for bringing a dog into HI is difficult), but just be aware.
It's still a beautiful listing and amazing property and I would stay again.
