Featuring a private heated pool, a hot tub, ping pong, foosball, cornhole, 4 kayaks and 2 golf carts. The Compass Rose is the ultimate vacation getaway!
AMAZING BEACH VIEWS, CONVENIENT BEACH ACCESS AND INCREDIBLE BEACH QUALITY
Be sure that a beach view really means a * GREAT * beach view. At The Compass Rose you'll be located so close to the beach that you can hear the waves! The Compass Rose is just 50 yards from the best and widest beach on the island. There is a big difference between a limited beach view hundreds of yards from the beach and a great beach view.
Also consider beach access. See the Island Map in the photos. The * ONLY * public beach access to the Gulf beach, with allowed golf cart parking, is located at the end of Butterfly Shell Drive. The Compass Rose is only 50 yards away from the public beach access. Guests at other homes on the island need to commute to the public beach access with their gear loaded on their golf carts and hope there is room to park. At The Compass Rose you are close enough to walk.
Consider beach quality as well. There are some sections of the beach that are so eroded that they are unusable to the public. Sea Air Lane, Oro Pesos Lane, Hidden Lane, Hodgepodge Lane and Escondido Lane all lack parking for public use and have narrow stretches of beach. The beach near The Compass Rose is accessible, wide and * GOURGEOUS *.
The Compass Rose offers unobstructed beach views. With 4000 sqft (2500 heated/cooled), The Compass Rose has 4 bedrooms, all with king beds, and spacious decks spread out over 5 levels. The rooftop deck is perched at a height of 40 ft above ground level with unforgettable panoramic views of the Gulf of Mexico, Captiva Pass and the State Preserve.
The inverted design offers amazing views from the areas where you spend the most time. Enjoy dreamy bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen with a cook top, a double oven, both Keurig and drip coffee makers, a countertop ice maker, an Instant Pot pressure cooker and 2 grills (a grill conveniently located on the deck outside the kitchen and a charcoal BBQ located on the ground level).
North Captiva Island is the best-kept secret in Florida. Only four miles long and half a mile wide, North Captiva is a Caribbean-like barrier island accessible only by a 20-minute boat ride. Its golf carts only on sand roads on the island. For guests who like to explore the island, there are 20 miles of bike paths and huge State Preserve areas. Bikes, additional kayaks, boats, jet skis, paddle boards and fishing rods can all be rented at Boats and Fun on the island. Currently there are 3 restaurants on the island, Mainstay's, Mango's Island Grill and Over the Waterfront.
What is included: High speed wireless internet, 4 flat screen TVs, YouTube TV, board games, 2 golf carts, beach towels/chairs/umbrellas, garbage bags, an iron/ironing board, toilet paper, paper towels, soaps (hand/kitchen/laundry) and dishwasher detergent.

Great house

Jenny was the perfect contact from the time of booking until checkout. She communicated well and quickly even when weather kept changing plans when checking out. We loved the beach, the shells and the location of the home including all the wonderful views from the different decks!! The supplies in the kitchen made preparing 3 meals/day and dessert for 10 people all week quite easy. Additional features the home offered: garage, washer/dryer, extra refrigerator space, outside shower, pool, beach chairs, outside game space and ample seating in and out of the home! Over many years we have stayed in VRBO homes in many different countries and states. For the price of the rental our critique includes: The home has not been well maintained (curtains partially covering windows, hanging off rods and some window coverings don’t work at all. Some interior and exterior doors that don’t close all the way and/or don’t lock), was generally not very clean (as we searched under furniture to make sure we didn’t forget anything we found trash from previous occupants), had roach and bug “houses” in cabinets, under furniture and in drawers, the lighting in the kitchen was poor. Most beds needed a few extra pillows as most people sleep with at least 2 pillows per person.

We stayed at the compass rose for a week and it was amazing! You can’t beat the views with this location!

Great communication, everything as advertised! Had high expectations; they were exceeded!

This was our 6th trip to North Captiva and our favorite house, yet. The location was incredible, with stunning sunset views and a 1 minute walk to the beach. The house was very clean and well equipped. My only two complaints were that the neighboring house, on the beach side, is quite close and was running a very loud pool heater the whole time we were there (despite being empty) which drowned out what should have been the lovely sound of crashing waves. The other issues was that there were many dishes in the cabinets that had been put away dirty, so we had to prewash everything before we used it. This is probably the fault of the previous guests, and not the property manager, but it was disconcerting, nonetheless.
Were it not for these two small issues, the property would have been just about perfect.

We were the first guests to stay after Ian in March 2023, and the property was in much better shape than a lot of others on the island! Everything was in tip top shape, and we had the most amazing time! The views are incredible, and the owner and manager went above and beyond! Very easy to communicate with! We would definitely stay again!

We chose Compass Rose because it was close to the beach with breathtaking views! Our party of 7 adults & 1 infant had plenty of room. Actually one room remained empty. I chose the mezzanine so I could wake up to spectacular ocean views! I do not love heights so I was glad the spiral staircase leading to the crows nest was short. It was extremely relaxing to sit in the white Adirondack chairs & watch the waves. Bliss! We loved the property manager!!! We will return again!!

My husband daughter and 3 of her friends spent spring break at The Compass Rose. My 26 year old son flew in Tuesday from Austin and joined us. We also brought along 2 dogs. It was obvious all the hard work that had been done to the property since the hurricane. We had a completely unforgettable trip. Jenny and her crew were excellent and we had not issues except should have brought more food since the general store is closed and no service could accommodate a mid week order. I was afraid of bringing too much over, but will plan for more next time. We did a personal Instacart to Publix and then arrives early enough to pay to have it boat-packed. They are great at island girl charters about loading and unloading all things. The Compass Rose is perfectly set up for dogs, with multiple areas of the deck they can roam without being able to exit, and the adjoining rooms were perfect for teenage girls. The beds had very comfortable mattresses (Casper), the outdoor deck with the Edison lights and lounges is magical and the outlook point is breathtaking (Although I am personally too terrified of heights to spend much time there) thanks for everything!

This was our second visit to North Captiva. This house was wonderful. The location is great, you can easily walk to the beach. All household supplies were provided, which was very convenient given that otherwise you have to bring those items over on the ferry. The house was as pictured, the pool was warm and we used it everyday. The host took the time to answer all of our questions. We would come back in a heartbeat.

Wow, from the welcome at the dock by Jenny and Gage to the perfect house 50 steps to the beach! All was awesome! We appreciated the attention to detail with the comforts of home and the outdoor amenities like the pool, ping pong and the bikes! All the beach chairs, umbrellas and kayaks are perfect for a perfect getaway on the beach. We watched all sunsets from the top of the house and you could see the entire island. Sunrises were perfect and it was a truly relaxing time. Thank you guys for being so attentive to our needs, we appreciate all you did.

Absolute Paradise!
The house was amazing! We had 6 adults with tons of space in this beautiful, well equipped and VERY comfortable home. The living room leather furniture was so relaxing and the new king size beds that arrived just in time with the best bedding and most comfy pillows provided a great night sleep. The pool was perfect to hang out in after a day on the beach and was especially great since it was partially shaded (so refreshing and out of that hot sun). The screened in decks were great- especially the one off the living room for breakfast before it got too hot. Was convenient to have 2 golf carts giving flexibility to our group. The key to this vacation is estimating the right amount of groceries and alcohol. Just be clear about size/quantities/brands when Using Insta-Cart app and a grocery service. We used Debbie at Fresh Pick Grocery Service (239-822-7078) and Jessie at Doc Watson Liquor store (619-520-8932) who were both great to deal with. The little grocery store at mangos is really pricey ($8 for ice) and the restaurants were really pricey too. Just be prepared…. Bottom line- the house and island were spectacular and we really want to come back and would definitely stay at the Compass Rose again.

Great First Visit to the Island
This was our first visit to North Captiva but it most certainly won’t be our last. Dan the owner was a great communicator from the time we booked to the time we arrived. Jenny met us at the ferry and got us settled. She showed us the different island spots to visit during our time on the island. Jenny was highly responsive when we had questions during our stay. Our group of 8 loved the amazing amount of space in this house. The kids loved the pool and the game area. It was a short walk to the beach. The decks provided space for the adults to relax and the upper deck was a great spot to watch both the sunrise and sunset. We can’t wait to stay again.

Vacation 2022
All I can say is this was an amazing property. The views from the house were spectacular, you could see the beach where the dolphins play from the whole living area. Sunsets could be seen from the living area as well. If you wanted to see the sunrise that could be see from the roof deck. The house was beautifully decorated and felt like home. The only problem was, we didn't rent this house for 2 weeks!! Thanks so much for offering your amazing property to others. We will be back.

Presidents week getaway
The property easily accommodated 5 adults and 2 teenage. Kitchen was well stocked and organized. Rooms were clean and private. We enjoyed the views from the roof sitting area. Caretaker was magnificent-picked us up at the dock and brought our bags into the house, gave us the island tour, We'd stay there again. Would have liked better lighting in the bedroom and living area though.

Compass Rose is perfection! Location couldn’t be better. Close proximity to the beach and nature preserve. House was clean and well stocked. Sunset was glorious from the rooftop deck. The pool was refreshing after a day at the beach. The best part was our dogs got to experience all this with us!

Great escape from winter
We had a great time at the Compass Rose. Daniel was a great host and his house was better than expected. His pre-stay advice was helpful and thorough making this "slightly" out of the way experience, exceptional. We appreciated all the amenities that were at the house already (bikes, kites, kayaks, lounge chairs, pool toys, and even extra batteries). We were able to enjoy vacation without really worrying about anything other than watching the sunset every night.

By Far the Best on North Captiva
We could not have asked for more. The house was beautiful and spacious. The ground floor had games galore and a wonderfully warm pool. Each of the five floors offered something special. The second had bedrooms with comfortable beds, good showers and robes for the hot tub just outside our rooms. The weather was unseasonably cool, so we enjoyed it each night. The third floor was luxurious with a well stocked kitchen and super luxurious couches for reading or watching Netflix. It also had a bathroom with a shower which was a great addition. The fourth floor had a spectacular view and a comfortable couch for cocktails and sunsets. If it was warm the fourth and fifth floors had outside adirondack chairs for viewing the ocean, sunrises and sunsets. We loved having our golf cart, and the bikes for transportation and exploration. We loved the island with sand roads without cars and the nature preserve. The beach just beyond the house was wide and long, filled with shells. What more could we have asked for. It was fabulous!

Beautiful location
We enjoyed the views, the beach, the hot tub, pool, kayaks and games. The kitchen was well stocked and inside decor was lovely and comfortable. Pickup from the ferry and back was perfect! Communication from the owner was prompt and detailed. The only item we had difficulty with was the bikes, as the seats could not be adjusted to different heights. Overall, a wonderful vacation!

Lovely Thanksgiving Stay
The house is in a fabulous location with absolutely gorgeous views! We really enjoyed the layout--great for gathering, but with so many comfortable spots to enjoy the view or nap. Everything we needed was handy--we put together a beautiful Thanksgiving meal-- plus lots of fun games, movies, and equipment like ping pong and foosball. The beach was an easy walk, too! We enjoyed every minute and would love to go back!

We loved our stay at the Compass Rose. Everything is exactly as advertised. It's probably closer to the beach than it looks. The house is great and the decks offer amazing views. It was a lovely, quiet stay. Communication with the owners was easy and fast and Jenny met us at the dock with our golf cart, gave us a quick tour of the island, and helped us settle in to the house. We had 2 kids under 10, 2 parents , 1 grandma, and 2 dogs. The house was large enough for everyone to have room to do their own thing. We would definitely stay there again. Thanks for everything.

Amazing vacation and awesome experience!!
We have so many great things to say about this vacation property and the island. The hosts made the check in process stress free from the moment we stepped off of the boat. The house was well kept and furnished and we had zero issues during our stay. The location of the house to the beach is nothing short of perfect. You have great views of the ocean from all windows of the house with an unobstructed view. The beach is just a short walk from the house or a short golf cart ride. The pool was amazing as well! If you're thinking of visiting North Captiva and are trying to narrow down your search on where to stay, this is the place!

The Compass Rose - a tropical paradise
We had a wonderful family vacation staying at The Compass Rose. It was relaxing and it brought us a new experience.
We all were so excited for this vacation and it did not let us down. I found this by accident actually. I went looking in Sanibel then Captiva and found nothing until I found The Compass Rose at North Captiva! I didn’t even know there was an island like this in the United States! We found it to be a tropical paradise!!!!! The Compass Rose met all of our needs and more!!! Definitely a 5 star experience!
We flew into Ft. Myers where Tim was waiting to take us to the Island Girl ferry. Took that to North Captiva where Jenny was waiting for us with two golf carts. We had so much fun just getting there! Getting there was no problem at all. It was easy and fun.
When we arrived at The Compass Rose, we found our home for the week. A beautiful home that had everything you’d need. Met all of our expectations!
This gorgeous house was so close to the beach which was something we wanted. We had plenty of room and we weren’t on top of each other. We loved the pool and used it every day.
We had a concern because hurricane Fred brought plenty of rain day 1 and 2. And hurricane Grace was coming at the end of the week. The rain didn’t stop us, we still had fun. The rest of the week was perfect! Beautiful beach days the rest of the week and then rain the night before we left. The storm that night was incredible to watch. Sounded like it was right at our house. The lightning was amazing to see over the water.
We loved the golf carts, the beach, everything we needed for our beach days. We saw and swam with manatees, saw dolphins, turtles, took hikes on the trail, watched movies we would show on the wall, saw amazing sunsets from the crow’s nest, swam in the pool daily, and just had some good ole family bonding time making memories.
The house was clean when we arrived, all of our groceries were there and even put away. It was perfect. The crib and baby gate were wonderful!! We would love to come back someday. Loved every minute of this vacation!!!!!!
I miss it already!!!

Amazing Views, GREAT location
Our first trip to the island. The location of the house was incredible. Super easy quick walk to the beach, we really enjoyed that the views from the main living area of the house where we spent our awake time were so beautiful. We loved having the private pool and used it often. Everything’ just as described. The sunset views from the roof are memorable. The owner and property manager communicated perfectly from day I booked the house until the day we left. Would definitely stay at this house again.

Perfect House, perfect location!
My husband, father and 4 sons ages 13-17 and daughter and boyfriend age 20 stayed at The Compass Rose last week. The house and furnishings were beautiful. The pool was amazing and we enjoyed the hot tub and games very much. The location was perfection as were the sunsets! There were a few minor issues that I brought to Jenny‘s attention when we got there and someone came to fix things right away. Honestly, we couldn’t have stayed at a better place! The owner was very receptive to our questions and had all the info you needed at the house. Jenny was also wonderful and easy to deal with. We thoroughly enjoyed the enormous variety of CDs and had fun exploring the island with the gulf carts. We saw manatees and dolphins and lots of birds, turtles and lizards.
We took a boat out on Tuesday and went to Captiva Island for coffee and lunch and anchored out at Coya Costa to do some swimming and shelling. It was a lot of fun. We also hiked in the nature preserve snd walked up the beach to get back, however, be prepared to get in the water in some areas as the beach is eroded. The only complaints would be the surprise of some big palmetto Beatles that came to visit and the no see ums and mosquitoes ate us alive. Also don’t complain about the fishermen on the beach during prime beach hours, the locals will also eat you alive!
Overall we had a fantastic time being together as a family and slowing down from our busy lives full of camps, sports and work!

My first day back at work and I'm already ready to go back. :)
Our family had a blast at the Compass Rose. The Owners were quick to respond with any questions we had leading up to our vacation, and Jenny was beyond amazing as the property manager. She was very welcoming, warm, and friendly. She was waiting for us at the docks when we arrived (earlier than expected, and was more than happy to help). She toured us around the island, got us familiar with our surroundings, helped with our luggage, and answered any questions we had. I cannot express how much everyone in our party appreciated her, which made the overall experience refreshing.
The house is gorgeous. It has lots of room, the hawks nest is fantastic, the pool, hot-tub, bikes, kayaks everything was just amazing. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, tons of spices, etc. We had brought zip-lock bags, and a few storage containers just in case - we did use those on the beach. I think the only thing we were missing was a whisk :)can't beat that.
I would recommend the Compass Rose a million times over to anyone looking for a place to unplug and relax. I say this knowing my family enjoys spending time together, cooking together, and not fighting for beach spots, restaurant seating etc. If you are looking for a commercialized resort style beach - this is not the place for you.
We respect and appreciate that some of the beaches are still in their natural state and untouched by commercial development.
We will definitely return to this little piece of Heaven on Earth. Please Elsa - steer clear of UCI.
Thank you Dan for allowing us the opportunity to stay in your home, and for Jenny- She is beyond amazing. ;).
Cheers From the - Aiken, Brooks, Buckhiester, Clapp Family
