Welcome to The Appalachian Dream! Quiet and secluded on the side of a mountain, this rustic and stylish cabin will make your vacation dreams come true. The kitchen is fully stocked and there is a full-size washer and dryer along with games, puzzles, Foosball table, and patio furniture.

The Appalachian Dream is a 2400 square foot cabin within a quiet subdivision, Ocona Lake Estates, and is conveniently located between Bryson City and Cherokee with 4 bedrooms on three levels with lots of space and privacy. The cabin is only a short drive from Maggie Valley, Dillsboro, Smoky Mountain National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway, Nantahala, Tsali, Fontana Lake, and Franklin. Asheville can be reached within an hours’ drive.

This 3-level cabin has a full-size bathroom on each level, two living areas, a loft perfect for reading, and sleeps up to 10 people in 1 king, 2 Queens, and several bunk beds. Televisions are provided in all bedrooms as well the two living areas.

The large master suite is located on the upper level and includes a king size log bed with log furniture. There is a ceiling fan, outdoor deck, and a large bathroom with shower and separate jacuzzi tub. The adjoining loft area has good lighting, a ceiling fan, reading area, and overlooks the main living area below.

The main level includes a full bath, queen bedroom, main living area, kitchen, and dining area. The living room has a gas fireplace, large windows overlooking the distant mountains and trees. The bedroom includes a ceiling fan and features log furniture and antique armoire. The main level includes a covered wrap around-porch on 3 sides of the house. Ample seating is provided on all the decks.

The lower level includes a queen bedroom, the bunk room (bottom 3 bunks will be made for guests and additional linens provided for top 3 bunks), a living area with foosball table, games, puzzles, books, 60" TV and sound system, seating, and full bathroom. Outside this level is the 6-person hot tub, outdoor deck, and firepit.

Access is relatively simple and does not require 4-wheel drive. There are two parking areas.

Elk are frequently seen in the Kituwah Valley area (~2 miles from the house) and have been seen on the property occasionally (see last picture). Ocona Lake Estates is located along the Oconaluftee River and the river can be easily accessed at the community's picnic/BBQ facility. This river is noted for its large trout but does require a special license to fish. You can walk to the river from the house. You can do tube float trips down this fairly quiet section of the river as well as swim from the community facility on the river. We are also only minutes away from the Tuckaseegee River which offer excellent fishing and white-water rafting. The communities quiet and seldom used roads provide great opportunities for walking/hiking. Excellent walking and jogging opportunities are also available at the Kituwah valley farm which is open to the public.

The nearly endless local attractions include the popular Polar Express and Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, Oconaluftee Indian Village, Unto These Hills Cherokee Theatre, Museum of the Cherokee Indian, Santa’s Land Fun Park and Zoo, Deep Creek, Darnell Farms, Harrah’s Casino (in Cherokee), Nantahala River, Tuckaseegee River, the Mountain Farm Museum, local breweries and wineries, several different gold/ruby mines, endless hiking, skiing/snowboarding, fishing, whitewater rafting, golfing, and mountain biking.

Very nice place but had issues with the dead batteries in the door lock, had an electrical failure and the HOA had a water pump failure so no water. However the management resolved all issues swiftly. We were happy with everything. especially solving problems with speed.

The house is so well maintained. Communication was great and everything as advertised. It was so much fun to stay at this cabin with family and be able to visit with other family in the area. We were close to hiking and fun restaurants. Great rental!

I’ve stayed at many rental properties over the years and this was one of the best. The space was as described - clean, close to everything and had lots of items that are nice to have in a rental. There was an abundance of towels (nice ones!), lots of kitchen gadgets and extras of things like toilet paper, tissues, paper towels. We did have one major issue during our stay (water problem that was not the fault of the owners). We were able to text and action was immediately taken. The water was fixed in a timely manner and did not impact our stay. Our kids did not want to leave! We will definitely choose this home again if we have the chance to return to the area!

We took our two children and their families for a long weekend in December for a Polar Express trip. The cabin was spacious and roomy enough not to crowd each other but cozy and comfortable to all be together. Everything in the cabin is as advertised. The kids loved sharing the bunk room and enjoyed the games available. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home. Beds were very comfortable - even the bunks. They are not your typical bunk mattresses-much better. Would definitely recommend this place. Hosts are very responsive and accommodating.
