Absolutely charming and above average comfort level. This historic hotel has been beautifully restored with replica period pieces without sacrificing modern convenience.
The location downtown is convenient to restaurants and shopping within walking distance.
We enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra day

Great location!

Quaint hotel that deserves a chance. Hotels like this are hard to find. Has a vibe that is not like the cookie cutters off the interstate.
4.4
It's historic and it has a charm, sure, but everything is slightly dirty, the furniture is outdated, and the restaurant was closed (with just a handwritten "temporarily closed" sign on the door).

We live in Starkville and wanted a kid-free night out! Very clean, quiet and conveniently located to shops, restaurants, etc. There’s complimentary Keurig coffee 24/7 in lobby, and pastries provided in the morning. Great place to stay if you’re coming to Starkville.

We loved the idea of a historic hotel right in downtown Starkville, but this brings historic to a new level. This hotel has some polish in the lobby, but the rooms are very outdated, musty, with limited ac. The Cabana Rooms have exterior doors right next to exterior emergency stairs that lead off the property to the Main Street. We will not be returning to this property.

Adorable historic hotel! Very clean, quiet & convenient to Miss State. Felt like we were staying in someone’s home!
4.4
The rooms are small and mine was 85 degrees when I checked in. They had just turned the air on. The "free parking" was on the street if you could find a spot; the "free breakfast" was vending machine pasteries. In my room, the toilet had to be flushed twice - sometimes three times. I was going to mention this at checkout, but there wasn't anyone at the front desk. This hotel had a 9 rating which is why I chose it. Definitely over-rated.

Staff are so friendly. I loved the personality and character of the hotel. Would stay there again!!!
4.4
Property is vintage, but clean and convenient. Nice local cafe around the corner. Bed was very comfortable and air conditioning worked great. Will stay there again next time we are in town.
4.4
The location of the Chester cannot be beat, right downtown providing access to the heart of Starkville. While some of the facilities are worn, it is a clean and comfortable stay.
4.4
Dated hotel, but charming and in a great location.

Very clean and I love the character of the hotel vintage style.

Very nice, quaint old hotel with all the plush niceties and furnishings. I arrived at 10 p.m., and the owner met me at the door, checked me in, helped with luggage, etc. Very pleasant. Rooms were cool and not humid. Great furnishings. Great mattress. Comfortable sleep. Lots of hot water for my shower. Nice continental breakfast (included in the price). Easy checkout. Would recommend it highly!

A historic landmark in Starkville, MS. Always a pleasure to stay there.

AMAZING ALL AROUND!!!

It is a beautiful historic hotel. Because of this, the bathroom was extremely small and the air conditioning was not great. When it was on, it was cold. When it shut off, it was hot. But it isn't "central" air conditioning like most of us are used to. Although the bed itself was comfortable, the bedding was not. The material the sheets were made of was just too warm feeling. Between the air temp when the air conditioner shut off and the "warm" sheets, we did not sleep well at all.

Clean, quiet, and friendly staff!
4.4
A well maintained older hotel that has retained its character with excellent staff. The perfect location with good food and shopping just around the corner. Quiet, comfortable and a warm welcome throughout our stay.

Nice historic hotel

We booked a veranda room. The staff was very polite and nice.
The room was extremely outdated with stained carpet, dusty chairs, and a light that sometimes worked in the bathroom. It was very loud due to being on the "veranda" which really just meant it was on the walkway to the roof with all the air conditioner systems. The fridge had long hair in it and some leftover Miller Lites. The air conditioner in the room was very loud also. No curtains were provided in the room, only plantation blinds. We felt very exposed to people walking by as a result. The bed was soft which is probably good for some people.
We had to park on the road and carry our luggage to the hotel. The door did not have handicap access so holding the door open and dragging luggage in simultaneously was cumbersome. Also carrying the luggage up the stairs from the elevator to the veranda entrance was less than ideal.
I thought the hotel was no pet, no smoking, but there was an ash tray on the table right outside of our room on the "veranda", and the owner had his dog inside the hotel and outside at times. When it was inside, it growled at us which was disconcerting.
We would stay here again if needed, but it would not be our first choice.

It seemed over rated. The old building charm is always a delight to us. But the carpet was old and not inviting. The bathroom was clean but do very small. The sheets had been laundered but were spotted. 😕 We happened to hit a parking spot right in front but the back seemed a little hard to operate to and from. Packaged muffins for breakfast. All prices were up but it seemed overpriced to us. Wouldn’t stay again.
4.4
Convenient location downtown in an old-fashioned hotel with decades-old furnishings. The room itself was nice but no housekeeping during our stay and close to loud college party bars.
4.4
The hotel was awesome for it's age. We stayed in room 301 and it room was very comfortable along with the bed. The only negative was it seemedlike the shower leaked on the floor really bad and the mat got soaked.
4.4
Location downtown was really good.
Parking not so great but there was public parking within walking distance. No breakfast but great local cafe just up the street. No bar. Room arrangement not the best and could use a little updating. All in all ok.

10/10 would recommend, would stay again

Historical hotel with charm. Definitely worth booking again.

Very nice place to stay when visiting Mississippi State.
4.4
Great location, interesting history and atmosphere, but does not have dedicated parking. The restaurant is permanently closed.
4.4
This is a beautiful, old hotel, and we were excited to stay there after watching the show where Gordon Ramsey redid the rooms and restaurant. But sadly, it seems to have gotten a little run down and definitely needs some work done. The restaurant had also closed, which was a disappointment. It is a very nice hotel, and is convenient to shopping and restaurants, but I'm not sure I'd stay there again unless some updating is done.

Such a cute and quaint hotel. Love the character and very clean. The beds are comfortable. The downtown is very close and cute too.
4.4
Very clean and nice room. Check in was easy and staff was very nice. Check out was just as easy and pleasant.
Would definitely stay again.
4.4
Bath tub had black spots and some of towels were torn!
4.4
Overall, the service, cleanliness, accommodations were fine, but the place just needs an update. The hotel has a 1989 vibe; but again, the bed was comfortable & the central location was very convenient & the room rate very fair.
4.4
Really enjoyed our stay. Very nice staff and enjoyed speaking with the owner. Would definitely stay there again!
4.4
The hotel has fallen into some disrepair. It is extremely dated and in a serious need of a refresh.
