Old monastry. Beautifully made to hotel in keeping. Breakfast in the church. Very close to town centre Gent.

Quirky historic hotel in a very quiet part of the city, but just a few minutes walk from the centre. Great staff, lovely breakfast. Well appointed room and bathroom. Only slight criticism is that the double bed was two singles pushed together and they were very "mobile" so would drift apart easily!

Very good

We loved our stay, the hotel is in an ideal location for the town centre and they tried to meet most of our special requests, very quiet room, walk-in, full-height shower. Extremely comfy beds, but no natural down pillows. Mainly good breakfast with range of usual food, bit lacking in wholemeal /rye breads, sadly nothing much in fresh salad stuff like cucumber /tomatoes /peppers.

Lovely hotel. Great location to transport links and the historical centre.
Staff were helpful, and the bed was comfy. However, it was 2 singles pushed together, so be prepared to fall down the middle if you are like me and wriggle in your sleep.

Really good stay, the room was really comfortable and spacious, the property as a whole was pretty unique and really well located for the main attractions of Ghent.
Breakfast was really good.

This is a lovely property in an old monastery while it keeps an elegant yet spartan decor reminiscent of the monastery the beds are comfortable with luxurious bedding the bathrooms are are elegant, and the property is quiet. BUT, there is no need to feel uncomfortable if you are not religious, there is a wink to the modern secular world visible in the art work, look closely, it will make you smile. The staff is wonderful.

Unique and quiet set in a wooded area minutes walk from beautiful river, Gravenstein castle, pubs, shops, etc. Highly recommended.

Pro: The hotel itself is very cool and interesting just to walk through. Also the beds are pretty comfortable.
Con: the room was not fully cleaned (trash had not been emptied and the sink had not been cleaned)... but, more importantly, someone keyed into the room at 9:30am for no reason?? No warning knock nor apology. That was a bit alarming.

Happy with the location, the room and the facilities.
Not happy with the reaction of the reception after a false fire alarm at 22h ("There probably is no fire, you can go back to your room. It is probably a false alarm. We often have those"). This probably made me feel safe :-)
Not happy with (Spanish speaking) staff speaking loudly in a room (or kitchen or whatever facility that is) next to mine (St.Stephen´s cell) between 1:00h and 2:00h in the morning - makes it hard to sleep.

Staying in an old seminary was very awesome and the girl at the counter was very helpful, however the older side of the property where I stayed needed much work. The bathrooms were in I’ll repair and dirty, the room locks were poorly installed with drywall screws, the tv did not work in my room, and there were significant gaps around the room door. I have stayed in hostels in poorer areas of the world that were not in such poor shape. From what I gathered, there were other rooms that were recently renovated and had in-suite bathrooms instead of them being located half-a-landing down or down the hall.

All in all a good a stay and above my expectations

Perfect walking location to everything. You didn’t get disturbed by the festival that was going on but could easily access it within 5 minutes walk. Comfortable beds and good breakfast,

Very cool hotel in what was a monastery next to a church. Great location just next to the old part of the city. Not fancy but well appointed.

Trouble with key cards. No towel racks . No soap dish in shower. Otherwise average.

It's a very special place. Great staff.
Pillows can be a bit smaller but other than that it is perfect.
Stayed 3 nights and will definitely come back.
Great location as well.

What an amazing place! A former monastery sympathetically renovated and converted - with some quirky touches. Really nice rooms with all facilities. Good breakfast - though a bit on the pricey side? Only bit that needs improvement is check-in. Staff are nice but the system seems either too slow or too complicated - it all takes way too long and staff (though perfectly nice) seem overwhelmed with it. Would definitely stay there again, though - it’s a really unusual place in Gent.

Well it’s an old religious institution which is cool if you like old buildings but 40 Euro did two for breakfast for a few croissants is Rob Dog territory and I think they should reduce this price.
The place is old but very interesting with a fabulous church in the centre of the building.
Overall the building is shabby and seems to have been thrown together rather than lovingly restored.
The bed was on but a bit soft, the bathroom was huge and quite ok.
The service was good and parking ok at 15 euros a night.
One thing is to remember to register your car for the emissions nonsense (pointless but there you go)
I’m writing this from a 5 star hotel in the Netherlands and I think I’ll stick to 5 star going forwards as this place was just too Youth Hostel style for me.

It is a unique property. Beautiful and clean.

Rooms are rather small, but comfortable to sleep. freshly renovated and in good condition. Parking was a bit difficult as space was limited. good location and overall good value for money.

We are 75 years old and were given a room on the second floor. The elevator was not functioning and we had to drag our luggage two levels (47 steps). In our room there was no internet connection. The woman at the reception (telephone) told us this was not possible, since she decided that there was connection. Quite rude. The same evening the friendly man, William, told us that our room was the only one without connection, but this did not solve the problem.
Otherwise the room was excellent, and the personnel was helpful and friendly. With a functioning elevator and a good internet connection, this would be an excellent hotel at a reasonable price

What a neat property. The building is beautiful, and the decor is both spartan and tongue-in-cheek. Totally appropriate for a former monastery! Really friendly staff. Only issue might be that the floors are creaky and the walls are rather thin. So maybe not the best place to go if you plan on being anything but on the quiet side! (Unless you’re an exhibitionist...) neighborhood is just off the main drag, an easy walk from all the beauty of old Ghent.

really special place to stay :-)
location close to the city centre
space in room used really well
comfortable beds with sockets above
little desk for some laptop work, next to a coffee machine & cattle
we would like to come back during summer :-)

Bit of building work going on, which was not a problem at all and will make the hotel even better. Loved our stay here.

Paid for a superior room and was given dirty, smelly room with mould in the bathroom. Took a lot of persuasion before we were given the room we actually paid for. We have stayed here in the past but would definitely not return. The woman on reception was aggressive and rude.

Our room was newly renovated and was very comfortable and had wonderful amenities (kettle, tea, coffee, etc.) The decor was a wonderful mix of modern comfort and historic charm, with high ceiling and fireplace mantel.

The provided water bottles were not new for me & I couldn’t get new ones. Breakfast is continental, so I did not purchase it. Beyond that, it was immaculately clean, newly refurbished with comfortable twin beds, but retained quite a bit of character. Bedding was wonderfully soft, towels abundant & thick. It’s quiet but close to everything - a real gem!

The Monasterium is being renovated and improved and will become an excellent hotel. Great location just 4 mins from the historic centre of Ghent, great breakfast, some parking on site, lots of history and a beautiful private chapel. With a visit just to look around. Some rooms and corridor areas still need more work, but overall a great find at a reasonable price. I guess the prices will increase when all the work is done.

Very welcoming, great location, excellent breakfast.

Excellent location and value. Our room looked like it had recently been refurbished. Facilities excellent hairdryer, toiletries, coffee Machine (although we couldn’t get it to work). The beds were really comfortable.
