The lock to our room didn’t work, so you could just pull the door open even when it was locked. The locks to the bathrooms didn’t work either. The wifi we were supposed to be using did’nt even exist, so we had to use another one from one of the other rooms (every room had its own). There was mould in the aircondition. There were cockroaches in some of the rooms. Sometimes there weren’t any staff at the reception even when there was supposed to be. Information at the hostel told us there would be breakfast, but there was none. Only good thing was a relatively low price and quite centrally placed.

New furnitures and an update of the bathroom would be necessary.

No reception, I went to the wrong hostel (there’s the same one down the street) and wasn’t told there were two different ones! Only way to contact someone was via WhatsApp
Wasn’t communicated what room I was in
Bed sheets aren’t washed properly, mine were stained and also the towels smelt really bad

Good environment and a great stay

I stayed private room.
I stayed for 3 nights and found 3 roaches and 1 bug.
My body was itchy all the time because of dirty bed.
Sound deadening does not exist in this facility.
No towel and body soap(just shampoo)
No amenities.
I will not recommend to stay here.

Not sure if it's because of the pandemic or if it's always been like this, but the place really seemed to need a cleaner. Stayed for several days (out of which we stayed two in the hostel the entire day due to having online classes to attend) and didn't see anyone clean any part of the hostel even once, and the bathroom and hallways seemed permanently stained with mud. It also smelled liked cup-ramen in the whole place and me (natural blonde) and my friend (pink haired latina) found black, asian looking hair in one of the beds.
Now the place was CHEAP so I wasn't exactly expecting a five star experience, but given that my friend prefered using the public subway bathrooms over the ones in the hostel I think it's fair to be a bit critical.

Good hostel, good staffs, good location but a little bit late response for replying email (about late check in process). Overall rating is good!

The location is great, very near to Dongdaemun, DPP and Gwangchang Market. However, the exact location is not easy to find, advise to visit their website to get the directions as it is in a small street near the main road. The staff are very nice and good spoken English, room is tiny but adequate for a night, and the staff can order fried chicken and Korean food for you. High value to stay in a low price hotel with excellent location.

This place was strange. Yes it is a hostel, private room was small but pretty standard. However bathroom smelt really bad, like damp mould, and then smelt the room out. Underneath the bed was disgusting full of dirt and rubbish. Bedding was weird, no top sheet, just mattress protector. Also we left something behind, only to remember a few hours later - email them no response, go back to get it and they told us they thought we wouldnt want it because it wasnt very nice looking so they put it in the bin. We asked for them to get it out, and made us go outside and look through the rubbish bin. Also customer service is no existence, guy was asleep in room most of the time, and then acted miserable because you had called the buzzer to talk to him, and woke him from his sleep in the middle of the day - not acceptable. Even for a hostel.

Small room with no window even though one was requested. Had an early DMZ trip and were unable to have an early breakfast. Very handy to Metro and many local restaurants. Clean and comfortable room.

Its located very close to jungro 5 ga on subway line, which is a useful line to be on. No hills to push/carry your luggage up or down, which is common in Korea. Its very close to a great street food market frequented by locals and tourists. However the alley in which the hostel is located in has a few red light establishments. There are two other hostels very close to it though, and I didnt run into any problems as a single female walking down the alley in the afternoon / evening. Room was clean and tiny just as described. Do not expect to be able to open up a large piece of luggage in a private single room. I travelled with a backpack and it was fine. Staff was super nice and helpful. Self serve breakfast was provided of toast, cereal, milk/juice. I would highly recommend this place for short term stays of a night or two.

Stayed at the Star Hostel fro 5 days. Location is very good which is half a block from MTR station. However, it sits very close to a few brothels. There is nobody standing outside to bother people though. If not for the colorful decor and big windows which you can see the girls when passing, otherwise you wont know. The place is small but very clean. Breakfast includes coffee. toast, cereal, juice etc. Staff, Gerry is very helpful. Gwangiang night market is only 2 blocks away where lots of kiosks selling lots of local food. Its very crowded during the w/e. The place is also very quite now but not sure about summer time. Money for value is very good. Will I use it again? Of course I will.

Our second time staying here. Booked again because it is clean, comfortable, and close to subway and the market. Slightly seedy area but completely safe and clean! Definitely would stay again if looking for basic and convenient room.

Great location, close to many famous travel sights and the shopping malls. The 2-4 bikini ladiess signs looked a bit sketchy at the begining. But,it overall is safe and comfortable.

The hotel was supposed to provide a complimentary breakfast, but we were not offered anything and it was impossible to ask as the lady at reception did not speak English. Also, she asked us to pay for the room again, despite us having already paid through hotels.com She eventually realised that we had indeed already paid.

After getting some help from the locals to find the hostel as its quite hidden away in the back streets, (partly due to getting no sleep on the 11 hour flight and having no bearings!! The hostel does send you detailed instructions & a map to help you when you book) the staff were extremely friendly & welcoming when we arrived. The rooms are quite small but have everything you need and are very comfy and clean! There wasnt much choice for breakfast but we didnt go hungry in the mornings! It was nice for everyone to sit on one big table as we got to meet other travellers (shout out to the nice couple from Austria). Also big thank you to the staff who gave me and my friend popcorn when we got back one night! All in all I would recommend this hostel and would definitely stay here again. If you stay here, go and see Dongdaemun Design Plaza which is about a 5 minute walk away, its amazing!!
