The staff is unprofessional.
The accessories in toilet are to be repaired. The furniture in lobby is also not suits with the star rating of the property.

Ginger is an average hotel for a night. Its staff was asking for our passports including our baby! There were no towels in room nor tea kettle working even after getting a replacement. No restuarants nearby though not too far from center square mall.

The reception staff is very confused and they don’t know what they are doing. I reached the hotel at about 2.30 pm they asked me to wait 15 minutes, finally after one thirty minutes gave me one room in sixth floor but the sad thing is they have already given to some other guest. Then again they shifted to fifth floor. Funny thing is at 9pm someone knocked the door and he was allotted the room for him. This is what your staff mental condition.
Not only for me on 17 date so may others guests also suffered like me.
Thank very much for your hospitality

It's was an ok stay , you can enjoy the facilities like swimming pool if you can wake up early... Breakfast is very good and delicious...spend good amount of time for breakfast..rooms are conjusted , espey the bathroom.. if you are going with family, then ask for spacious rooms. Hotel is hygenic and clean. I had a business trip so conjusted room didn't matter as long as I felt value for money..

We chose this hotel for its location and amenities (gym, indoor pool, etc). I was surprised to find mosquitoes in my room every night, even after I killed them each day. We were on the 7th floor, so they must be breeding in the building. The bites gave us a terrible sleep.
The gym was simple but had terrible ventilation - no fresh air, and an A/C unit that wasn't on (no buttons to turn it on or remote available; I probably should have called down to reception). The indoor pool had items floating in it, such as pieces from surrounding plants. Overall it did not look maintained. No towels for use afterwards, you had to use the ones in your room, and with only 2 provided, it wasn't easy to shower and use the pool with 2 people.
The breakfast buffet was better than I expected, with a variety of items available.
The service was decent from the front desk.

I am an Indian citizen who travelled with my wife (Norwegian citizen) and 2 children (Norwegian citizens) to Kochi, Kerala recently. We were initially staying at a hotel in Thiruvalla (Club 7) which while booking us into the hotel asked only for the front pages of our passports for police verification purposes. We were in Kochi to attend a ceremony at my brothers house and wanted to stay one night in Kochi. We booked The Dunes Hotel from Hotels.com and when we went to check into the hotel, the person at the front desk would not let us check in because he wanted not just the front pages of our passport but also entry stamping on our passports. We did not have the original passports with us but had copies of the passport which I was glad to email them to the hotel immediately. He informed us that this was a special instruction by the police. I booked a room immediately with Vivanta by Taj - Malabar, Cochin and asked them if they needed the same documents. They informed us that, all they needed was the front pages of the passport and there was no rules by the police regarding taking copies of entry stamping from passports of foreign nationals. We send the copies to them and got to stay there that night. The management did not provide us with any written document from the police when asked. I called the Kochi police and they have said that it is not mandatory for hotels to take the entry stamp but copied of the passport are compulsory. This hotel is just scamming people.

The room was clean and comfortable. However, the wifi was bad and unreliable. For the price I paid, I wouldn't recommend the hotel since there are better hotels which provide more services for that price.

I wanted to like my stay but it was hard. I don't speak the local language, only English and Hindi so it's difficult to get to about. I tried several times to ask hotel front desk and staff about getting a taxi to a specific destination and they told me to get an "uber" and "ola" app on my phone instead. Second time I asked a different front desk person and they said I will have to go outside and hail one. Its because of this type of staff attitude that I cannot recommend this hotel at all. Watch out for the manager who has a tendency to interrupt and talk over you.
They allowed me to use their phones to make call to taxis once I found some numbers on my own on their internet.
The rooms were decent. Breakfast idli was good.
Though things seemed off. They charge you extra for bottled water in the buffet breakfast, Bathroom was almost clean but there was serious rust all over the mirrors, Windows are nice and big but you can't open window drapes since there are locals living across the street in a Highriser building.
Internet was a godsend for my situation but it was extremely slow, it's not possible to stream videos or video chat on laptop.
Overall this hotel is OK if you want just a place to sleep. But if you are looking for something posh and upscale, avoid Dunes because of hotel condition and service.

Very pleasant experience on the whole. Watch about some rooms having mildew (fungus). We got one room with it, but the staff were very helpful in shifting us out very quickly. Suggest you checking out the room if you have allergies - especially if you are traveling during the monsoon (actually this true for any Western Ghat hotel).

Not enough staff was there at the counter for check out process thus the wait time is long
