The rooms were in bad need of renovation. Fridge was iced up so badly it didn’t cool properly. The window unit had both AC and heat but the filters had not been cleaned in months or years. When we turned on the heat the stench and fumes from the dust being burned off was so bad we had to turn it off and open the door to the outside to get the smell out. There is no exhaust fan in the restroom and the enamel is worn off thr shower floor and sides. Thr photos shown for the listing upon which we booked were most likely from years ago and were of their largest unit and not their average regular rooms. The listing and front desk stated coffee would be available in the welcome center each day from 7 am to 11 however there wasn’t any coffee any morning of the five days we were there. Also, all the places I’ve stayed before housekeeping comes in the morning and your room is ready by mid afternoon but these folks don’t start until the afternoon so you can’t get back in your room until after 4 pm.

The check in was at a sister property down the street. We checked in after hours so there was no one to greet us, but the hotel left very detailed instructions on how to obtain the key. The room was clean and bed was fairly comfortable. The motel is located right next to the road so was some road noise. The motel was kind enough to provide nose plugs so that helped ease the road noise.

The good:
The beds were clean and comfortable enough. Most things in the room worked. The room was spacious and so was the bathroom with double vanities and a nice sized closet. There was a working refrigerator and microwave.
The cons.
There was a mystery door in our room to the office.
There was no wifi available to us. We were in the room next to the office and we never could log into the wifi network.
The room was large, but there was no real place to relax. It was the bed or one of 3 kind of uncomfortable chairs, or two backless camp stools.
No table to sit at. An end table had been setup as a table between two chairs. Outside was a garden table and chairs that had been appropriated by the room next to us. Again, no table.
The shower is a tiny stall and the shower head is very low. I am not that tall.
Finally, the lobby. There is supposed to be a stocked coffee station with k-cups, etc. It was not. I had to request the coffees. Then when I got there a couple of hours later, 6 of the 10 pods they left had already been used. So I had to take 2-3 away so I could make coffee in the morning when we were leaving.
While we didn't spend oodles of time on property here, it would have been nicer if 1) wifi worked, 2) I didnt have to hoard coffee.
It was clean and did the job, but it could have been much better with a bit more attention.

Adorable little place. Our room was VERY spacious and worked out perfect for my son’s visit to Sul Ross (literally across the road). We had a quick one night stay but plan to go back. The a/c was a little tricky to turn on but we got it going and all was well.

We stayed here for one night on our way to Big Bend. Hotel is cute and quaint. I would stay again.

This property was great for a quick one night trip. Bathroom was small, but the bed was comfortable.

Clean and functional. Great lounge area with coffee and snacks plus a table we used for take out dinner. Nice courtyard area that our dogs enjoyed. If you have a lot of luggage and two dogs get one of the bigger rooms.

Loved the room we had, a very unique Texas Inn, and a pool.

Nice little room but bathroom quite small road noise next to rooms was high. Coffee and pool were nice. Overall very good but for price as expected

I came back here specifically because I loved the pool so much, but this time it was closed all three days I was here, so I ended up wishing I’d stayed somewhere else.

A very unique experience. Quiet, and comfortable. No frills, but everything you need. I will stay here again for sure.

The Mav ! I loved my three day stay here while I explored Marfa and the Big Bend area. As a solo woman traveler, I found the Maverick Inn to be safe and secure, charming AF and my fave thing was being able to park so close to the door of my room. It was also a unique little adventure for my late check-in to get instructions at their sister hotel in a sealed envelope as if I was on a mission. [Just follow directions about check in and it is Easy!]
I swam in the pool which is kept clean and cooled myself down from the Texas heat.
It is a true old school motor court with retro vibes. I love unique stays and the MI has been my fave stay on my epic road trip. I hope to make it back to the area some day and will def stay here again. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to add that within a couple hours of me checking out I got a text that I had left behind my boots. DANGIT! They offered to ship them to me (on my dime which is fair) but my beloved boots will be reunited to me because the MI staff is THE BEST IN WEST TEXAS !!!!!!
If you need a cookie cutter hotel, skip this one, for it is eclectic and charming and One of Kind that you won't find anywhere else. And if you do stay, Take a Dip in the pool for it is refreshing AF and a fine place to hang out at the end of the day.
I'll be back!

Clean satisfactory rooms, wonderful pool and pool area with shade when needed, property has character (buildings, signage, lobby), price is reasonable. I’d definitely stay here again on a return visit to Alpine.

Nice pueblo style, but dirty floors in the room toilets desperately needs renovations; Loud trains at night.

Great place right off the road

We were disappointed in this property. The room was smaller than expected based on the advertised photo, and the bathroom much smaller. The room comes with ear plugs to mitigate noises from the nearby highway and train track.

The Maverick is a historic motel that has amazing charm and convenience to all Alpine has to offer.

A nice quiet little inn. Loved the uniqueness of it.

Attractive, homey feeling unit with odd floor plan. Significant train noise with horns.

The property is cute and quaint. The bathroom was a little on small side.

Noisy. Very noisy. Many of the rooms face the highway, about 15 feet away. Despite the small size of town, the US highway running by so close creates a lot of noise...the sound of the car and truck engines, loud stereos...There also are train tracks close by. The train came thru town overnight and blew its horn incessantly (probably many road crossings in the area). Wow! loud. They give you earplugs, not very useful, unless you are used to sleeping in bed with foam earplugs. ...Room and property had a nice western feel. ..Checking in occurred at another hotel elsewhere in town, which, while not awful, was inconvenient.

I arrived to find out that my payment to you was not forwarded to the hotel and had to pay the full price. I was not notified of this until I checked in. It would have been nice to have been aware of the situation.

The room was not as described and unsafe. The bathroom had no grab bars in the shower/tub. The bed was against a window without a headboard and was so close to the bathroom that you could hardly open the door. The TV was too far from the bed to be useful and the only chair was old and decrepit. It was so unacceptable that we forfeited our second night and LEFT to stay at another Alpine motel.

Th Maverick is the pplace to stay for western flavor or experience. It is an established and most everything shows that it has been well used over time. But clean and well mantained. It feels like West Texas.
2.0
The room was dusty and dirty, the shower had mold and the bathtub was stained. The blinds and curtains were broken and we had to cover the window with a blanket. The deadbolt was missing from the room door. The HVAC was vibrating and making alot of noise I had to turn it off. It was not a good experience and the rating was very misleading.

Location is very convenient for the college and the Cowboy Poetry Festival. The room was spacious, clean and cozy. The bed was comfortable and the space was quiet. We had a coffee maker and fridge in the room. We were able to park right outside the door. Only shortcoming was an extremely small bathroom with a small shower which is a step down. I realize expanding the bathroom is expensive but it would make the room much more comfortable. All in all a comfortable and convenient place to stay in Alpine.

I love this property for its unique qualities in the region: historical preservation of the area's first campground, a very nice swimming pool, easy access to the main parts of town, great pet-friendly place with a nice yard for them, and the commitment of owners to the preservation of the region. Authentic little spot across from Sul Ross.

Unique in its nostalgic decor and area.

Right on TX 90. Good location for Big Bend national Park

Great stay, the history and rustic charm drips off of this old backdrop of Hollywood movie films with John Wayne which we just love.
Room was good just needs a coffee station and a better check in process. The hustle and bustle from one place to the next is inconvenient; probably easier to have self check in with key pads honestly. Especially since all of the security checks of ID photo requirements and etc before hand is required.

This place was so bad we had to get another room elsewhere. The room was nothing like it was advertised. I was very disappointed and not happy! It was very small, cold, tiny bathroom and no plugs for recharging items. There was no one in charge there. Parking was very tiny. No coffee in room. Shall I say more? There was a gap under the door so critters could get in!!

Comfortable, quiet and pet friendly. Nice place to stay and will return.

Adorably funky in just the right ways. Bed was comfy. Front desk at the Holland Hotel couldn't have been nicer and helpful. Rumor has it both the Holland and Maverick will be remodeled in the coming year. That said, I'll mos def return!!

Had a great stay, housekeeping missed a used washcloth left in shower from previous guest, but otherwise it was very clean!
Door to adjoining room was not very soundproof, next room had dogs barking all night, but that isn’t the properties fault. Would definitely stay again!

I would have given the maverick inn 5 stars except for 2 things. We actually had to check in and get the key at a sister Hotel downtown. No issue with doing that but it was not mentioned in our Expedia confirmation. We ran into a worker there who explained it.
The other issue was a very noisy air conditioner. There were earplugs on the nightstand which should have been the first clue. Finally
We shut off the AC and opened the windows instead.
Otherwise lovely place, lots of personality and great pool with astroturf pool deck.

There was no one at the property for check in. Had to drive to another hotel for check in and key pickup. The property was pretty worn out, the lighting was dark and the bath towels were small and thin. Way overpriced for what we received. At checkout the next day, there still was no one at the office and no place for a key drop off. Had to go back to the other hotel again to drop off the key. Would not stay here again.

Right across from Sul Ross campus. Perfect for me as I am here to take a test on campus.
