This small hotel is cozy. The onsen is beautiful & very enjoyable because it’s private. You have the option of eating at two nearby restaurants with free transportation (included in your meal) . But everything is really far away and either requires 30 min of walking or a minimum of one hour on bus.

Next time we stay in Hakone, we will stay right near the Hakone station. The staff at this property was an amazing host. Very kind and helpful. The facilities were worn down and we all got bug bites on us. The futons were very old and the pillows were very uncomfortable. The onsen wasn't very clean either and there are no dining options nearby. It was very quiet and had a nice view. Stay at another place by Hakone Station instead. ((but we did love the Host very much- just not this propery))

Very basic

It was a cold rainy day in Hakone, ruining our plans for visiting. Yet the Ryokan's staff have done everything (transporting us by car, offering us traditional food )to make us enjoy this experience. The hotspring inside the hotel was great and very natural.

I had the most amazing time staying in this very beautiful ryokan. It was a very authentic experience and I was very satisfied. I even got a lift to the bus stop when I left.
The mattress was a bit hard, but I do think I could’ve had one more on top if I had asked.
It’s traditional and authentic, do not expect a 5 star hotel, but embrace the place.
I would definitely recommend!

The gentleman working at the front desk is calm and kind, setting the mood of our stay. I slept so well in the dark quiet of the mountains, especially nice after a relaxing time in the onsen, which they allow you to use privately. In the day hearing the delightful song 🎵 of the uguisu bird was magical.
A tip on riding the bus to the hotel: let the bus driver know you want to get off at when you board (the long name of bus stop has the word “Palace” in it), because our driver overshot the bus stop and we had to walk back. Also, there is a map across the street from the bus stop (if you are coming from Togendai). There is an asphalt road to walk. Go up it and turn left at first corner. It’s not far from bus stop.
I would totally stay there again if I go. It’s an economical place to experience Hakone!

Property very rundown and very bad smell in the room.

Beautiful location in peaceful woods. Nice big comfortable room with window looking out into the woods with a view of Mount Fuji when weather permits.
Lovely little onsen looking out into the woods.
Very very helpful and friendly staff who helped us with coping with transport issues after typhoon Hagibis.

You need a car to get there and try to get there ultimately late afternoon, for your check-in it will be very difficult to find in the dark.
We were the only customers. From the 1st room the toilet did not flush, the 2nd room the AC did not work properly, the 3rd was good. The place needs a serious investment and renovation.
The service is very good, very nice people and the Brazilian women speaks English. Great service, the onsen was made ready for us and prepared breakfast for us at 3h30, because we we're going for sunset Mt. Fuji @ Yamanako communication plaza.
The place is close to the Hakone ropeway, Hakone shrine and lake Ashi. Proper restaurants f.e. can be found in Gotemba. Gotemba has a huge premium outlet, where you can spend all your money on premium brand clothing. If they have sale, it is payable.
Thank you for your hospitality and service. This made lots of flaws good.

We loved our stay here. Our host Kyoko picked us up and dropped us off from the station in the rain, and organised transport to a restaurant for dinner. Then, when I left my phone in reception she drove all the way to Togendai to drop it to me! Our whole family loved the Onsen here - we could all share it together which was cool, plus we got to wear their Yukata afterwards. The room was big, beds super comfy, breakfast big and delicious. AND we got a free classical piano concert from a maestro. This place was fab!

The room was very nice (as in the picture) with a beautiful view. The on-site onsen baths (one bookable private, one public) were also nice. The rest of the facilities could perhaps use a facelift, but this did not bother us. One of the people working is a highly accomplished pianist, and we could enjoy a free concert as an added bonus.

Amazing hospitality, the owner and staff were really friendly and we had great conversations. Excellent, copious meals, easily accessible (a short walk from the bus stop, with views of Fuji-san). I enjoyed the private onsen. My traditional room was large and very clean. I would definitely return if in the area again.

The hotel was quiet and secluded. Staff were pleasing and helpful. The onsen bath was absolutely amazing, and there are good attractions and restaurants nearby.

Choju-Yu is located near the hakone ropeway and scenic pirate ship, with its own cozy open air onsen, plus closed air bath. It has a ping pong table, running machine, and a little shop, which was very convenient. The owner was very nice to us and showed us around, and we had a great experience!
