The hotel is under construction and you have to carry up your luggage for 2 stories and hear the the construction workers in the morning

Outstanding and very service minded staff.

The building is undergoing a little construction, so was a little difficult to locate and initially a little off putting. However, staff are friendly, facilities are clean and the rooms are comfortable. Great solo stay at a good price! Would stay here again.

I stayed at Kex Hostel for one day and it was amazing. I had to take a taxi very urgently to get to the airport, and the man at the front desk was very helpful! He explained my situation to the taxi driver so I was listed as a priority rider, and was able to get to the airport just in time. Would like to stay here next time when I visit Reykjavik :)

Pana at the front desk, when I checked in, was an absolute dear and stored my luggage for me and gave me recommendations to go see a museum quite close by until it was time to Check-in. I enjoyed very much! I was on the 4th floor, but each floor has its own kitchen and refrigerator, and that was a great help as I traveled by myself and like to get my own food. Love the location and was able to walk over to the Bay and it's only like 3 blocks to the Sun Voyager, and to all of the bus stops that I needed to get to my tours. I would highly recommend this Hostel. It was under construction so there was no bar or restaurant while I was there but it was still absolutely a great experience and I would recommend it.

It was an okay experience.

It served my purposes. Decent coffee!

This place is great!

This hostel experience was unpleasant. There’s construction happening so the exterior looks questionable, the staff were unfriendly, the showers/bathrooms were very dirty and there’s live music until midnight on Thursdays and Fridays, making this a bad place to try and sleep.

No bathrooms per room, no elevators, noisy
2.0
The area around the hostel is under construction, which was very loud and sometimes difficult to navigate. There was a distinct smell of mildew in the bathrooms, which were typically dirty. Beds were comfortable, but very loud if you moved in your sleep. The bar downstairs had loud music until midnight that shook the building.

Amazing location and everything inside was great. So clean and comfortable compared to many hostels, and staff were so helpful

Easy and central location, so close to the waterfront and for pick ups for excursions- bus stop 9 is close by. And it’s also a 25min walk to the bus terminal. Super easy. Pleasant stay albeit for one night

As I arrived, the entrance seemed a bit awkward, but once inside the vibe was great, lots of places to sit and chill, kitchen was easy, beds good, good and affordable breakfast, plenty of bathrooms and very helpfull staff.

The staff is beyond amazing. They have great facilities and maintain a high level of safety.

I stayed 9 nights in your hostel before getting my student accommodation at the University of Iceland, and thought it was going to be a rough time staying for so long. But I was happily surprised of how much I liked it! The bed was really comfortable and I really enjoyed the change of people in the room. The service and cleaning was also good, so I would absolutely go back again! Thank you!

The hostel sign needs to be bigger or more noticeable because at first glance, it looks like one is walking into a construction site.

Good hostel, has a quirky bar and a lot of people hang around there throughout the day. The beds were clean and comfy. Stayed in the 16 bed and it was all groovy. Staff were ok, standard scad service - no nonsense or small talk - that’s all good for me as I’m a quieter person. The bathrooms could’ve been cleaner but that’s more the customers fault not the staff as it gets cleaned daily. Didn’t use the kitchen except to get water but it was a decent size space to make meals if you’re into that kinda thing. Also it’s in a good location. Center of most things - bus, church, food, bars.

Loved my ocean view room. Appreciated the wool blanket and duvets. Game room lounge was nice to have. Enjoyed the breakfast on site.
My room was fine. People traveling with me who stayed in the tiny room complained of mildew smell.

It's a good place to stay, the bar closes at 11pm

I could tell the place was undergoing renovation, but the parts that were open were super great. I would look forward to staying here again, especially when all the fixes are in place in the future. Staff was very friendly and the Kex is at a great location and has excellent views of the bay. Great bar as well.

The rooms were fairly clean. The bed and linens were fresh. The kitchen and the bathrooms were rather messy. Tourists are really not doing their fair share.

Cute hostel with clean beds and easily walkable to town and the bus station. Unfortunately the smell in the hallways was really off putting; also the bathrooms could’ve been cleaner and lacked paper towels and any kind of surface to put your stuff down on while you showered.

Had to get up early for a flight and the employee at the counter was very helpful and answered all my questions with patience. Nice spot, nice people working there.

Oki I was forced to rent this hostel as the hotel i previously booked went out of business before i arrived.
Pros: the price is good, the location is great near restaurant and grocery store, especially if you are going in tour, the bus stop is in front of the hotel door. The staff were very friendly and there are events in the evening.
Cons: its not an adult only hostel (which it should be) waking up and seeing naked children screaming and running in the hallway was strange.
Lack of cleanliness. I have seen the staff clean literally, but there are so many people in that hostel that everytime I wanted to use to bathroom it was always dirty.
There are no elevator. I have one luggage almost as tall as me and a carry on. It was very painful to go on the 4th floor.
I would not stay there a second time.

Great to be back! 5th year back staying at Kex! The Greeks and French running the bar are also back for the season, which made Kex feel like home as always.

Dated but under construction (so noisy in the day). ?Front door not very visible with no signage in the street.
Rooms are clean, linens are great and beds comfy. Can be noisy until midnight due to the bar. Great location to waterfront, shopping and restaurants. No designated parking.

I prepared food for a mate who was away all day golden circle tour and only had a couple hours before going to the airport. I wrote 15th July (my check out day) his name; yet he could not find it! Either fridge cleaners already threw it away or someone decided to steal it — not cool. Also, the reception lady in the morning of the 14th could be a little nicer. It’s been 6 days stay was switching back to the 6-bed and she stares at me as if she didn’t want to be there.

We had a rental van, asked where to park. Was told P1, P3 lot above. We saw a sign that said P3 below. Figured it was the same. Mistakening parked in the garage that locked over night. Figured out in the morning the P3 sign was for the street spots. Would be helpful for future guests to emphasize NOT parking in the structure as it doesn’t open until 7:00. We had to pay extra for rental to get picked up and taxi to airport. Our own fault of course. But cab driver said it’s not an uncommon mistake. Hopefully can be avoided for future guests. Lovely, quirky, friendly, professional place with loads of personality.

Apart from 50+ yo guests who were obnoxiously loud and have to be reminded there’s people still sleeping at 08:00, my stay was pleasant.

This place was fine. It was clean enough. There are game notes and live music in the lobby. It was a great place to meet people at the beginning of my trip. My bed in the dorm was comfortable enough, and there was an opaque curtain to give me some privacy. There was no free parking, and theRe was construction next door.

Very clean, good social environment, very helpful and kind staff, spacious, great location, good wifi, and shared kitchen, reasonable price. Highly recommended.
