When we stayed overnight, the hotel was undergoing renovations in areas, which, without sounding too negative, it does need it from the age of the property, but we can appreciate they are undertaking this while still trying to operate the business. The staff were lovely and helpful throughout. The accomodation is located primarily in a courtyard area, which has a unique feel. We did have to be moved rooms as the new heating in the room we were allocated wasn't working. I did like the first room for the huge amount of space, but the second had a nicer bed and working heating, so it was certainly a well received swap. Even so, the entry walls are stripped of wallpaper, signs of a work in progress, hopefully something that will be sorted before next year. The rooms do have a microwave and fridge, so you do have facilities to cook and store food, which is a rare treat. We had a peaceful night's sleep and an easy checkout, which is always key to a good stay. The hotel location is right in the middle of the Gloucester shopping district, so you do have easy access to eateries and retail. Despite renovations, I would still recommend the place for location, facilities and friendliness.

hotel really good value and in the middle of town.

Spacious double room with tea/coffe facilities. At first glance rather nice and adequate.
Unfortunately no hot water for wash so resorted to boiling the kettle. One side lamp was not working.
Thin walls and a fridge in the room that made very interesting noises throughout the night.
Overall, adequate for £90 for a couple.

When I walked in I was a little nervous but the room itself was great. It has been recently renovated with new carpet, painted walls and new bathroom. The TV was a roku tv so streaming from my phone was easy.

Nice friendly hotel in the centre of Gloucester.

Good price for a good room! Staff are brilliant so friendly would recommend above premier inn or Travelodge!

I think you need to get newer towels and bathmats. The biscuits were nice. Everything else good. Great location for all things to see

Very nice staff and check in was a breeze. Everything is great for a One night stay and perfect for train travellers since the hotel is at the train station! Of course, makes it a bit noisy.

Very nice and convenient for shopping and restaurants

The hotel is in very poor condition. My room smelt. The hotel was covered in air fresheners that were trying to mask the nasty smells but failed.

The hotel was an excellent surprise since the rooms are renewed and there was a firge and microwave available, makings us feel really at home.

The room was large, the bed was comfortable. I was at the back on the courtyard so it was quiet but my friends were above the high street and could hear every drunken shouting match on a Saturday night at 3am so had a poor night's sleep. They should improve the windows to reduce noise.
My room was fine only issue was there was hand wash in the shower as shower gel?!
4.0
Strange smell on entry to the hotel, but the room was nice, clean and had a fridge and microwave.
Bed very confortable and shower was great.
No breakfast was available but as its city centre there are cafes nearby. The car park is a public one and we managed to get a space, which cost about £12 I think. Do adding that to the cost of the room and with buying a breakfast does make it quite expensive compared to hotels like Holiday Inn, but they are not city centre.
I would stay here again as the location is great if you are visiting Gloucester .

Rather lower my standards and stay in a Travelodge with crack heads 😂
Firstly we waited nearly 30 minutes to check in when there was only 2 people in front of us. The women had a script so long that the person in front of us told her to shut up and just give her the key.
We were put on the third floor and it was so hot up there, especially after carrying all our bags because of no lift. Good job we arent that old. The tiny fan in the room did nothing and the window only opened a tiny bit. We felt like we couldn't breathe in that room.
Asked to swap rooms but they wanted more money. On top of all this the shower never got hot and the room was so small.
Not worth paying that much money. Another reason why we stick to chained hotels on business trips, as you know what you are getting and they are more than happy to help, plus most have air con these days, which helps when its like 30 degrees.

Stayed one night in the apartments adjacent to the hotel. Clean, tidy, comfortable, full kitchen and there is a supermarket open late pretty much opposite. The reception staff were really friendly and professional too.

Good but holding 250 pound on my card that I won’t get back for 5 days is crazy so wouldn’t return because of this

I was given a room on the 2nd floor right at the back of the building because I can see roofs from adjoining buildings. There were pigeon poohs on the window, the room may not have been used regularly.
There were 4 jiggers of milk to make a cuppa. I thought you get water and juice in the fridge but there were none.
I opened the window, it didn't stay up, it dropped down, which scrapped the skin on my knuckle causing it to bleed. I reported this to the receptionist, she promised to send some to check on it and get it fixed and she will check it herself, I am not sure if this was followed through. She didn't seem too bothered, luckily I had some plasters on me.
I didn't have a good night sleep as the mattress was hard and the pillows were too puffed up, I prefer them flat ish as it hurts my neck. I end up sleeping with no pillows. I know this is no one's fault but the pigeons made so much noise around 4-5 in the morning, I couldn't get to sleep properly.
Pictures on the website showed some modern rooms, but I definitely didn't get one of them. The location was very convenient and central which is the reason why I booked it as I had to attend a school reunion.
I don't think I would use this hotel again.

Courtyard room, first floor. Very nicely appointed; fridge, microwave, crockery, cutlery, wine glasses & tumblers - very welcome indeed.

Stayed in the Friar House apartments again,
Fabulous accommodation within a short walk of Gloucester Quays and the main shopping area.
Apartments were spacious, well equipped and clean. It was really like home from home and the views of the Cathedral and hills beyond from the spacious balcony were beautiful.
Can’t wait until our next stay in a few months.

No aircon and the room was so hot it was uncomfortable. The sheets were too small for the bed, kept coming off. Our friends had a better room downstairs. No bar but the hotel is in town.

Check in was a crazy business when we arrived in a large group.
