We needed something central in Morpeth for a boys reunion. For £50 per room per night it was ideal and included a good full English breakfast

The hotel was in a great location, just over the bridge in the town. Breakfast was excellent and the staff were very friendly

I thought this was excellent value for money. Some fittings in the bedroom (first floor) were aging but it was spacious and comfortable. Well lit and good desk and adequate tv.
Breakfast a good mixture of help yourself and being served at the table.

From the outside this pub hotel looks very run down, though the area in its in is pleasant. From about a week before they kept contacting me to ‘confirm’ the booking, I kept replying but they still sent more requests. Very odd. The interior is very tired, crumbling walls, chipped paintwork, stained walls etc, though all very clean. The rooms are basic but ok. The real issues are the water in the bathroom, some rooms had no hot water in the sinks, and the showers only run cold. They claimed a ‘plumber has been called’ but as reviews mention this problem for months, that’s clearly nonsense. I had a bath but then the plug stuck on the bath so I had to leave the water in. The toilet seat was also broken. When I reported all these issues the young man at reception didn’t seem at all concerned and didn’t even apologise. There is a strange smell throughout the building too,

Very enjoyable. Nice staff. Good breakfast.

The hotel is very budget priced and provides very good value for money with excellent breakfast. Evening meal in bar good value and well presented.

Easy parking, night porter and a good breakfast that was able to cater for my coeliac wife.
Unfortunatelly the shower was a dribble and unusable. Bath wasn't much better so we didn't wash.

Great staff. Beer garden a sun trap. Breakfast good. Rooms comfortable and clean. Handy car park. Good location for town and golf courses.

Phoned an hour before check in to say they had a burst waterpipe. So we were left with no accommodation

In a good location, near park and castle and town center. Great breakfast included. But the heating doesn’t work during staying so a bit cold.

The hotel is in a very nice and convenient location, close to the main street and next door to the main park. It has got its own parking. I was annoyed that I was allocated room 4 above noisy and smelly kitchen fans just under my windows and it was only after my complaint I was moved to a better room No.10, away from the kitchen. Why wasn't I given a better room from the very beginning since both rooms were available? Then in the morning it turned out that the shower did not produce hot water although there was hot water in the taps. Overall, the hotel is very run down and requires refurbishment. The staff and breakfast were nice.

The first room I was putting had water stains down several of the walls there was a leak coming from the ceiling. Change my room which was reasonable, but there was a lot of noise coming from downstairs and outside of the pub. They then emptied the bins right next to my window. About half 11.
The other reason I stayed there is because Bruce Springsteen was playing in Newcastle city centre and couldn’t find a reasonable priced hotel. I paid the extra money just stayed in Newcastle city centre

Shocking rooms, damp in walls, wallpaper peeling off and paint. beds are not comfortable. Works needs to be done

Tired looking. No wifi. Wallpaper peeling off bedroom walls, shower just trickles out. Very outdated, not what you'd expect for 2024. The positives were it was clean and the bed was comfortable.

Well located for visiting Morpeth and surrounding area. Only a short walk into the centre where there are an abundance of places to eat and drink.
Free parking available. This is a pub with rooms above. The pub side is very pleasant with a lively weekend atmosphere.
The rooms above are basic and in need of an uplift. In ours the TV refused to work and the shower would not heat up to an acceptable temperature. That said it was comfortable and clean.
Breakfast was included. Ample portions but again the set-up was basic.
Happy to give 3 stars on the basis of location and price.

A beautiful old building in an excellent location with really charming communal areas and very good breakfast, but the rooms and all the corridors need refurbishing. We started in a nice room with new, large ensuite but, during our first night the heavy rain caused water to leak down one of the walls into the bedroom (due to the lead being stolen off the roof, we were told). We moved to another room, but this was obviously one of the much older rooms as the heating wasn’t working and neither was the shower. There was no hot water from the tap in the washbasin and the cold water tap constantly leaked. The heating was eventually sorted after a few portable heaters were found to be faulty. We were given the option of moving again but we decided to stick it out for our third and final night. The saving grace of this establishment is Diane, the Manageress, who was always smiling, friendly, efficient and amicable, despite being on reception, cooking and serving our breakfast, as well as sorting our problems.

If only the decor in the accommodation areas was a good as that in the bar/restaurant areas our experience and grading would have been so much better.

Staff were absolutely fabulous, very busy but still were very pleasant. Enjoyable stay.

The hotel is in need of a coat of paint. The communal areas and room were very tired. The bar area was not very clean and tables were left uncleared long after they were vacated. I’m assuming that there wasn’t enough staff.

Booked a one night stay. Room awful, dirty, in need of a total re fit. Tired peeling decor, curtains hanging off, stains and mould, dirty skirting boards, stains on walls.
Breakfast service slow, tea urn cold, black pudding and hash brown not cooked, toast was warm bread. Breakfast service staff need full service training , extremely poor setup. Girl serving on tables texting from her phone then touching plates. Worst place ive ever stayed in. Have read a guest says its like Fawlty Towers, id have been happier there!

The rooms were lovely and the location was perfect! The included breakfast was delicious and a great value. The WiFi wasn’t working and neither was the tv in our room but Morpeth was such a cute town that we explored a lot and weren’t in our rooms much to need those comforts

Fine for the price. Conveniently close to town centre but not right in it, and a fairly lively pub (when others nearby were nearly empty). Parking in their private yard.
The room was perfectly clean, the bathroom was clean and in good condition and the shower good and hot (an aged yet functioning mixer unit).
My main negative comment is about appearance and the initial negative impression this creates; the stairwell walls, corridor and room doors were quite battered or scratched, the room decor strange and outdated, and there's clearly been some issue with the ceiling and a leaking flat roof at some point.

Awful place to stay. The staff seemed like they didn't want to be there and were not at all welcoming. The rooms smelt really bad, the beds were uncomfortable, the rooms were very stuffy. 2 of the rooms we booked didn't have hot water, no offer to move room or an apology, or part refund. We had a funeral to go to so it wasn't ideal. The breakfast was good but the waitress again seemed like she didn't want to be there.

The downstairs area of the hotel which is the bar and restaurant was clean and well decorated. The evening meal and breakfast were very nice. But once you went upstairs to the bedrooms it seemed very tatty our room and evidence of damp on one of the walls causing the paint to flake. The bathroom was also in need of modernization the toilet seat was loose, they'd replaced the shower but had left the remains of the old one. The power points in the room were in the wrong place there were 3 together on one wall and 2 in another wall. I think now there should be some beside the bed for charging phones. There was no WiFi in the bedroom much to our son's disgust the only WiFi was in the bar area. We only stayed for one night, we wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer

Room was sad, courtyard view was grim dead pigeon and bird poop everywhere. Went for a takeaway bacon sandwich for breakfast which was slices of kingsmill and 3 slices on bacon. Croissant was good so went back for another which was stale. Coffee was fresh. Shower was new but zero pressure been better with a kids beach watering can. light was flickering.

Room was very very old and tired. Paint chipping off wall, stained carpet. Not the most clean in bathroom either. Bar area was good and breakfast was excellent.
4.0 / 10.0
Great location and good breakfast. Rooms and bathroom really dated and need to be refurbished.
If they did this they could charge more and have greater occupancy as it seemed there were very few guests staying in the hotel.
Put a light bulb in the stairs on permanently!

Two night stay while in the area, and booked with some reserve after seeing some of the reviews posted here. On the plus side, its comfortable, ideally located (for me anyway), warm, and the bar food was absolutely excellent. On the downside, the hotel areas - especially the rooms - desperately need work. The shower was cold on day 2, the wallpaper is peeling off the walls and while clean. the room was generally tatty. I expect its more down to economics rather than neglect by staff or owners who were very welcoming. Trouble is now its in a spiral, it needs revenue to update but its condition is going to put some people off so that reduces bookings. I really hope it gets the investment it needs. I would stay again, and I hope others do too.

Shocking, hotel, room’s everything needs work. No curtains in rooms, from 6am you are awake. Shower only ran cold.

Rang bell waited, rang bell another 5 times every 2 minutes, could hear the barman talking to people so knew someone was their, He appeared and said someone will be with me in a moment, sat down, waited 15 minutes and still no-one, rang bell again and waited a further 10 minutes, went to the bar to see if I could get checked in, was informed by barman that the lady on reception was busy in the kitchen, I ordered a pint of lager and waited another 10 minutes, then I saw the lady coming out of kitchen, so asked her If I could check in, went to reception no apology for waiting in excess of 40 minutes, No welcome was given straight brief, how are you paying for room, new card or existing card, breakfast times and last order for dinner is 8.30pm, given key and no directions to room and separate security door. Got to room needed to check work mail and could not find info on wifi password, went to reception, she was actually there and asked her for password, She pointed to a notice, I was told abruptly that the info was in the room, I later found the laminated info card underneath the towels , Shower was dreadful and took 10 minutes for hot water and very fine spray.
Such a shame the Hotel is being let down, I can see there has been alot of effort into the rooms, bar and dining facilities

The rooms need attention, the room we were in was damp and pain peeling off the wall.shower has no power
2.0 / 10.0
The rooms are very tired they need some TLC given to them, room is rather noisy, you can hear anyone outside walking along the corridors and showers are not great. Staff on breakfast duty were not very friendly even when speaking to them.
4.0 / 10.0
Hard working staff who worked as an integrated team. Traditional inn environment that could have done with a little TLC to maximise its charm. Lively bar environment supported by live TV sport.Efforts to be energy efficiency in stairs lighting to be commended, but it would have been useful if at signing in one was informed about pressing the light timer switches on the stairs, as even in daylight the top of the stairs was dark and it made it difficult to inset the door keys into their locks.
5.0 / 10.0
Great stay. Central location, friendly staff. Large family room, very clean, very spacious. Tea and coffee. Fantastic breakfast. Fantastic value for money. Only downside room was over the bar area, quite loud music and noise after closing, sounded like cleaning.
4.0 / 10.0
The hotel is a little jaded, particularly on the staircase and corridors, it needs some maintenance.
Staff were helpful, but could not give late check out - noticed how much effort they gave to helping a disabled guest, which is good.
Breakfast was good
WiFi is poor
