Great home and great location
10.0 / 10.0
This was the end of our 2 week trip. We enjoyed the close proximity to Main St and all the restaurants etc. When we hiked the Via Ferrata, Box Canyon and went to the hot springs pools we drove but they would be walkable if needed. This place wasn't quite as nice as I had hoped. The owners can't control the neighbors messy outside but it would be nice if they took more care in the tidyness of their own small yard. (Namely the back). Some of the porch furniture was in disrepair (broken). The downstairs shower had an unsavory odor and it would be nice to see some repair to it's outside lower tile work. We weren't left any Paper towels (listing says they are provided) and we ran out of toilet paper. The biggest issue with the place was NO air conditioning. I am sure I should have noticed that this was the case but I had failed to do that and it isn't called out at all just simply not listed as an amenity. I have no one to blame but myself. In early August we were quite uncomformtably hot and it was difficult to sleep even with a fan.
All that being said, it was much less costly then the other places I found and I am guessing the above are the reasons for it. You get what you pay for. It has the location going for it for sure. And it's not a horrible place it would just be nice to know a bit more of what to expect.
I did not reach out to the owner about any of the issues but that's because I never heard from him until I asked him about check out.

Nice house to stay in but needs attention on a few things. Porch furniture was bad and some small things need repaired. But the location was great.

Warm, very comfortable. Previous people left beer cans in a box outside the back door. The garbage cans were totally full I guess because of the holiday so we had to leave our garbage bag in the kitchen. The downstairs commode needs attention. It runs very slow. We did however enjoy the property. We would recommend it.

It was important to have a place my parents, who are 80 had a place they could be comfortable in and be able to get out and about without too many obstacles and this was the perfect place to be. We could walk to downtown to look at shops by day and get an ice cream cone with the grandkids in the evening and they loved how close all the mountain adventures were to our home base.

Great location for walking to downtown, to Box Canyon, to the hot springs, very quiet street—we slept with windows open undisturbed through the night. We had a lovely stay.

The property was comfortable and had sufficient room for the 5 of us who enjoyed the stay. The property is located conveniently within walking distance of virtually everything in Ouray. The only hiccup in the stay was during the arrival. I arrived at the property at 4 pm (the listed check-in time) to find the property was not ready. The cleaning service was still at the property and a child (about 8 years old) was sleeping on the couch. It was about 430 before I could enter the property. This did not affect our overall stay.

I have never given a poor review but this is my honest opinion. Opinions care vary depending on personal preference. I booked this house based on the 5 star reviews. After returning to look at them, I disagree with many. A gift card is offered for a 5 star review, just an FYI.
Positives- the location is great. You can walk to everything- shops, restaurants, hikes. The property manager was responsive to my concerns and provided a partial refund which I greatly appreciated.
Negatives- the house was dirty. There was both built up dirt and the house was not cleaned prior to our arrival. There were food stains and residue in the fridge and on the stove. The house was dusty, the front porch was very dusty so we did not use it. It had built up dirt on the furniture. When arriving, the initial impression was concern because the house looked worn out and the front yard (the only yard there is) was full of weeds. The interior was also really worn out, including the furniture. You need to bring your own toiletries but there is a hair dryer. We only used the loft bedroom. It was fine but we did bump our heads multiple times due to the low ceiling. If you are tall, it will not work. The loft bathroom is only useful for the sink and toilet. We could not get the bathtub to work correctly. There is not a shower. The only shower is located just outside of the kitchen so if there are multiple couples everyone will share. This is not a 5 star house, I would not rank it more than a 3.

Was a nice place. Some simple inexpensive fixes would have made it a great place to stay. But for convenience and the length of time we were there it was fine.

This little house is one of the nicest we’ve ever stayed in—beautiful renovation, fully and generously stocked, very comfortable beds, sumptuous downstairs bathroom, kitchen had everything we needed and more. Darling loft with its own bathroom and great front porch shaded by big aspens. Located one block off Main St so nice and quiet but ez walk to all shops and restaurants. We esp enjoyed the big Hot Springs pools, the excellent bookstore, and Box Canon and Cascade Falls. Thanks for a perfect place to stay and premium Ouray experience. 5 Stars all the way!

We stayed here with 3 adults for 4 nights. We really loved the location and walked pretty much everywhere. We brought some extra toiletries just in case and needed more TP. The property was straightforward and needed some extra cleaning for my comfort which we completed after arrival. The shower downstairs was great. The tub in the loft didn’t work for us/ was not something we would use. The loft was very warm despite our best efforts to keep airflow moving. It could use a window AC unit. The area was quiet at night and peaceful. Overall, it was a good experience.

We had 2 couples and our 2 dogs. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy. Much better than a hotel and it's right in the heart of Ouray. Easy access to hiking the perimeter trail and walking to restaurants. Spent time on the front porch drinking wine at night and coffee in the morning. It is an old victorian home but has modern amenities. The bathroom upstairs has a nice claw foot tub, toilet and sink, but no shower, which was fine for our group (we all just used the modern shower downstairs). We very much enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Thanks to Carl for having a fine, pet-friendly property so close to "downtown" Ouray. My wife and I enjoyed our stay and will likely stay there again sometime.

The property description is pretty accurate, nice older home. We cooked several meals and had everything we needed. Also went out to Mi Mexico restaurant was very good. Enjoyed hiking and seeing water falls, also enjoyed hot springs pools. Spent some time on the front porch just relaxing!!!

We have been vacationing in Ouray since 1980. We have been renting this property every 2-3 years for about the past 15 years (since before the current owner, Kate, bought the property). That indicates that we love the property and the Property Manager and how the property is maintained. Great location (away from tourist crowds on Main Street, but close enough to walk to shops on Main Street). Always clean! Well stocked kitchen. Do your longer-term grocery shopping in Durango or Montrose. Nice neighbor on the south side. Nice that fairly new, dependable washer and dryer provided. This trip had trouble with leaky garbage disposal. One call to Carl (Property Manager). He asked one question about size of disposal and he replaced disposal while we were jeeping in the mountains that day. Property pictures on VRBO accurately show the facilities.
In the past, have delayed plans to travel to Ouray, because this property was not available (even though other properties were available during the time we wanted).
Would be glad to give a more detailed verbal reference if asked.

Loved the location. Walking distance to Main Street and close to shops and restaurants. Only complaint was the cable tv did not work. Had to log in to our Netflix in order to watch movies. Kitchen had everything we needed and the downstairs bathroom was nice. My son did complain about the front bedroom. The mattress was very uncomfortable. We would definitely stay there again.

We really enjoyed the location, the place is dated but shows in the listing. We had a family of 4 so the 3 bedrooms was perfect although the listing said 4 bedrooms (4th is pullout in living room). We ran out of paper towels and trash bags and didn’t have any dish soap, but we survived and the property manager was responsive to help out. The DIRECTV was broken while we were there, not normally a big deal but we had to go out to watch the Nuggets playoff games which wasn’t ideal and added to expenses. All in all I would definitely stay there again.

We had a great time at our stay at this cozy house! The location is pretty much perfect - we could walk to Box Canyon and Cascade Falls trails, downtown shops and restaurants, and even the hot springs (though we did not walk back, brr!). We were a little disappointed to find that while the listing states there are three bedrooms, only ONE bedroom has a functioning door (the upstairs bedroom is more of a loft that has a curtain for privacy; the bed in one of the downstairs rooms is too big allow the door to close). That was a little bit of a bummer, as we were traveling with our kids and their grandparents, and a door is an essential feature of a bedroom! Also, unless you’re planning to take a bath, the upstairs bathroom is really more of a powder room - there is no shower. So, what we thought would be a 3 bed/2 bath rental was really more of a 1 bed/1.5 bath. We also felt like the property info in the property was pretty outdated - there were references to trash/recycling stuff that didn’t align with what we saw in the space. The 3-star cleanliness rating is because, while the property itself seemed pretty clean, all of the dishes were REALLY dirty - like lipstick stains on glasses/flatware. It was gross. We had to go buy dishwasher detergent because there wasn’t any and we couldn’t actually scrub the lipstick stains off the glasses! The prior guest had also left piles of dog poop in the back “yard” area and upstairs balcony. Pretty disgusting. We had our dog with us, and I will say it was a little tricky to make sure our dog was using the appropriate outside area - the houses are so close together! This is probably much easier to figure out in the summer. The same is true for parking - we had a hard time figuring out where we could park the two cars in our group due to piles of snow, trash bins, etc.
With all that said, we really enjoyed our stay and the house was otherwise perfect - lots of comfortable places for everyone to sit and hang out, and it was light and bright. And again, the location couldn’t have been better. We would definitely stay again.

We had a great time at this comfortably, cozy place in Ouray! We were a convenient walk from downtown and enjoyed the gorgeous views of the valley. We loved the remodeled bathroom and the upstairs loft. Our dogs enjoyed their stay as well! We would definitely stay here again.

Great layout and comfortable space for two couples and a pup. Kitchen was well stocked, fireplace perfect after a day outside. Stuff to note: beds are smallish Double/Queen but decently comfortable. Washer dryer worked, as did kitchen appliances. Second bathroom had a bathtub, but the shower on the first floor worked great. Parking out front for one vehicle, second space available to use next door. Would definitely stay again.

Great location walking distance from the ice park at a good price. The beds downstairs are a bit small for two people. The VRBO app had minimal information. It literally only had WiFi info, which was wrong, the address, lockbox code, and the manager’s phone number. I called the manager at 10:00PM and he called me right back! All necessary information, including the correct WiFi info, is written on the instruction sheet inside. Overall a great experience!

We really enjoyed our stay! We had 6 women on a girls trip for the ouray ice fest and the place exceeded our expectations. It was very cute and plenty of space for all 6 of us. The loft area feels very much like It’s own bedroom - very private. Only recommendation is we couldn’t find measuring cups, measuring spoons or glasses for wine so we had to improvise when cooking. Thanks for a great stay

We had a great time coming in for some ice climbing. The house is roomier than we expected, and the place fit everyone (6 adults) and our gear easily. We could walk in to the Ice Park from the bottom (just under 3/4 miles to the chalet) and found it conveniently close to town/shops while also being quiet enough to let us rest. The kitchen had plenty of supplies, the beds were crazy soft, and the location is amazing!

This place had more than enough room for the four of us, was within walking distance from everything we wanted to do in town, was clean and stocked with necessary stuff... I want to go back!

The property is well located and overall comfortable for two people and a small pet. We only used the first floor. The unit was intended as a central point for touring the area so we did not spend a lot of time inside. The kitchen had all the utensils we needed.
