They were amazing. The staff went out of the way to accommodate my extra needs: adding nights to my booking and providing a ramp for access to the dining room. They even arranged for an in-room refrigerator for my medication. Really attentive and courteous.

A very impressive well run Hotel, certainly one of the best inTorquay. Very well maintained even Brasses still being polished. Room warmth and comfortable, plenty of amenities eg Gym, spa suana at no extra charge.spacious longes and large restuarant.
Well worth staying at with in a room with outdoor balcony overlooking the bay.

My first time in this hotel and I was more than happy with the overall stay, the place itself is enormous, took almost 10 minutes to walk to the gym! the decor is lovely and suitable given the age of the property, all staff were wonderful and the meals were delicious. Would stay here again.

Hotel lobby certainly gave the wow factor, staff friendly and very easy to approach. Bedroom was comfortable and clean although dated. We happened to stay when storm Bert was at his finest, so poor sleep due to windows rattling and whistling, curtains didnt quite meet either. Had a room with a balcony although could not use due to maintenace. Bath an added plus!!
Did not eat, so cannot comment on food choices. Parking bays quite small but had plenty. Only a 10 minute walk to town centre.
Would consider staying again.

GREAT STAY HAD A NICE UPGRADE

Overall good , breakfast was disappointing

Comfortable room with sea view. We had the deluxe room although our balcony was overlooked from rooms on a side block next to us, so we didn't feel we could use it and if we had our curtains open to admire the sea view, other rooms could see straight in! Room clean and nice although could do with updating. Hotel position perfect and fabulous views, hotel in general very nice but looking a little tired. All in all a pleasant stay.

General areas lobby/ bar etc are grand and welcoming, breakfast is great.
Rooms are tired and old…needs a major refurb
Service is mixed, they seem to be multi tasking roles

Lovely authentic hotel that will transport you back to the golden age

At first sight of the hotel it is very obvious that it is in desperate need of some TLC. It stated 4 star but I would find it difficult to give it 3 stars. It probably would have been 4 star about 20 years ago. The staff more than make up for the tired property. They were more than helpful and could not do enough for us so 10/10 for them. The building itself has seen better days, the rooms were clean but very tired, new carpet, curtains and paint desperately needed. The bed was very comfortable and room spacious, since we got an upgrade to a room due to security of a lower room I was unable to leave window open. Excellent shower and bathroom was roomy. Variety of drinks in bar is limited and we did not eat in the restaurant. Not far from restaurants and bars but a bit of a hill climb on your way back. If renovated would stay here again.

Really enjoyed my stay beautiful hotel

Love staying at the Imperial Hotel , have stayed here before . It is a lovely hotel, historical. Food is great , breakfast buffet style with service. Evening menu's good selection, lovingly cooked and beautifully presented. A little pricey, but you get top quality for that. Bar prices are as expected ££. Can highly recommend the Devonshire cream tea, its delicious.
The rooms , the decor and furnishings could do with a little attention, for example fraying carpet near bathroom door threshold, some distressed furniture cupboards nailed shut and water marked wood. A timely upgrade maybe needed. I would suggest the addition of mini fridges in the rooms. Absolutely love the sea views and the people make this hotel a wonderful place to stay.

We stayed in room 20. A seaview deluxe. It was fabulous. Huge, with a lovely bathroom. The shower was unbelievably powerful. Fantastic sea views from our terrace. A huge bed. Plenty of storage. We were concerned about being next to the garden entrance but it wasn't a problem at all. The only things we'd change were perhaps we'd have liked a blind in the bathroom due to it's location. And we thought we were getting feather pillows but we didn't. We could probably have asked at reception but for 2 nights it didn't seem worth bothering anyone. However neither of these stopped us enjoying ourselves and we'll be back hopefully.

An absolutely stunning location and a huge seaside hotel. The rooms were very clean and the view simply beautiful. My boss used the spa and indoor pool and said they were great. The staff were lovely, but there was simply not enough of them. Room service was hard to get hold of and on my second night when I wanted a breakfast card and wake up call, I could not get through to either, it rung out at least 20 times. In the end I made coffee in my room and had the biscuits for breakfast, as I was leaving early. This is just not acceptable when you are travelling on business. The management need to address this and sort it. The room service food was 4/10, badly presented and not great at all. Both my boss and I thought so. You need to address the food choices and quality. Overall, we both loved the hotel, but it needs investment on decor and what it offers. I think the owner needs to decide on this. As I said, the staff were lovely, but appeared to be doing multiple jobs like running the bar and delivering room service.

Disappointed. Booked a sea view room with balcony. Were allocated a garden room which can be used with pets, we were not happy with this due to allergies. They gave a free upgrade to a sea view suite but doors to balcony were locked. Asked to be moved but were told not possible as all rooms with balcony access were taken. It was important to us to have balcony access not extea rooms we didnt use.
Drinks were a reasonable price, but not enough bar staff. Meals expensive. Hotel itself well kept on the inside but outside definitely needs a repaint and a derelict building just next to the main entrance makes you think "oh dear, where have we booked". Garden area needs a gardener to take it in hand and access to garden and re-entry to hotel needs signage. All in all enjoyed our stay, definitely a hotel for 50+ age group.

Tired and in need of updating only overtaken by the unhelpful and miserable staff

Very nice roomy room with a great view, very good public areas, staff friendly, Breakfast a bit on the expensive side at £18pp, compared with other options available locally, but was very good. easy access to the harbour area where all the restaurants are, will come again.

The location of the hotel and the view from the room was absolutely fantastic, the staff were also nice, but unfortunately in all parts of the hotel you could feel the old glory and majesty of this place, which needs a lot of time and investment to regain its luster and charm..There was a good selection for breakfast, but the food was uninteresting and most of the dishes were not washed well, and the whole building smelled old, so we were a bit disappointed and we will prefer another place next time..

The view from the hotel was gorgeous. It was quite funny trying to find the gym. We had to walk for ages to find it. The hotel was large and like a maze. The dinner at night didnt have too many options. It was ok but nothing wow. There was lots for breakfast in the morning and service was good too.

Nice for older people, coupes and family. Spa mean you can have something to do if the weather is not nice…fairly priced for food which is good as the main town is pricey.

Lovely Reception area, and public areas mostly look like they've had a lick of paint and are clean, hotel quite dated in a lot of areas including the room we had although it was huge and view was spectactular ( delux king sea view floor 4) bathroom wasnt great, very cramped and very dated, not a 4☆ in my opinion.Staff on reception very nice and always very helpful, some bar staff not quite so friendly, breakfast staff very nice, and lots of choice for breakfast both hot and continental. Hotel in a Very good location for going into town and to the harbour. Didnt use the spa or pool or outdoor pool.

1st room was very small and the bed was against the wall. We spoke to reception and they upgrade us to a room where the bed had room either side, no air con and window only opened slightly, no USB plugs. Lovely hot evening so after our show we decided to go back to the hotel to sit on the outside terrace, only to find no lights on the outside terrace. Boiling hot evening and nowhere to sit outside. Only option was to go back to the room.

Went away with husband for my birthday got the key to room it was absolutely boiling no windows and the balcony had a safety catch that couldnt be opened due to maintenance asked if could change rooms they said for another 60 pound thus made our nights sleep very uncomfortable and we could hardly sleep

Hotel is spacious with good sized rooms, which was very well kept....just dated.
Parking is available but struggled to park as had a wedding. Staff friendly. Walk into Torquay fine if do not find walking a problem.

We arrived an hour before check in and were told we could use the spa facilities until we could check in. We walked ALL the way down to the spa only to be told the doors were broken so could not use the sun loungers to relax. So I asked if we could have a robe and were told that we have to get the robes from reception. Seems a bit backwards. Why wouldn’t they provide robes for the spa, in the spa?
So we walked all the way back up to reception who were completely unaware of the broken doors and the fact we could not use the loungers. Then said we couldn’t have a robe until we checked in!! We gave up and went for a drink.
Lovely bar area however when my husband ordered a whiskey he was told “we don’t have any whiskey tumblers, would you mind having it in a wine glass?? What?? No thanks please find me a tumbler!
Anyway - when we checked in our room was lovely and we had a stunning sea view. We actually had a lovely stay and laughed about the whole thing.
The hotel is a little run down but over all very nice and reception staff were very nice.
None of it would prevent us from staying again!

Would I stay again? Yes, was it amazing no, limited power sockets no usb outlets, hand wash in bathrooms smelt awful, however it was clean and comfortable if not a little dated.
