Great location in the heart of Shrewsbury, excellent breakfast and wonderland helpful staff.

Hotel is dated but that brings about character.
Staff were very attentive and helpful. Would definitely stay again. Breakfast was very good and cooked to order.

booked a single room for two nights. I stayed in room number 100 and had a 90 bed set in a corner and a view from the window right into a wall. Nothing like the room I had booked on the website. There was a smell of mold in the room and urine in the toilet.
I went down to reception after the first night to ask to change rooms and told about the smell. received a reply from the reception who spoke to the hotel manager who told me that the smell is due to the fact that they have just repainted the room and changed the carpet and that they will not arrange a new room for me. Which was a lie because the room was neither repainted nor had a new carpet and I can tell the difference in urine, mold and paint. Poor service from reception and manager but the friendly woman working at breakfast was phenomenal. I will visit beautiful Shrewsbury again but never the Prince Rupert Hotel.

We had a lovely stay. They realised we had a small child they immediately swapped the room for a quieter one.
Breakfast was lovely with a mix of continental and cooked breakfast in the medieval hall. They'd even decorated the suits of armor for Christmas.

The hotel is realy nice, but a bit dated, but than can be its charm. My room had very creacky floorboards, but again, its a very old building. The people are lovely, welcoming and helpful. I would stay again

Good location in the centre of Shrewsbury. Room was dated and in need of refurbishment. Dated TV in the room (with no HDMI terminal) switched itself off and switched itself on for no discernible reason. Suspect that the standard of the room allocated was due to reserving through Hotels.com rather than directly with the establishment as seems to be the practice among many establishments.

This was our first visit to Shrewsbury with the intention to do some Christmas shopping. We had some issues with parking due to the road closures but we parked at the station which was easy and only a 10 minute walk to the hotel. Amazing service at check in, so friendly and efficient. Breakfast was nice but unfortunately we were made to feel as though we didn't belong there which has now put us off staying at the hotel again.

Lovely hotel. Amazing breakfast, friendly staff.

We stayed here for my wife’s 55th birthday. My wife has mobility issues and the staff were very accommodating to her needs. As usual staff are very attentive, polite and friendly. Only issue is they have changed the evening menu and was not to our taste so dined out in the evening. Bar menu and breakfast excellent with lots of choice. Fantastic stay once again 😊

Only negative the decor in the room is very dated.
We would still happily stay here again.

A very pleasant stay and excellent food.

It's old-fashioned in a charming way, and a lovely central spot. Inevitably the sound of city night-life carried but the local pub stopped their music at 11 which I thought was really courteous. I met at least one regular guest which says a lot!

Excellent town centre hotel. Rooms quite small but that’s what you expect in somewhere a few hundred years old!

The property is a large establishment across the street from the rail station. From there it is a 15to 20 minute walk to the historic town center.

Room was clean and bed was comfortable.
Staff were friendly and helpful.

Really pleased with our visit. Our only observation was we would have preferred more water pressure to the shower.

Our 5th stay at the hotel and very happy with everything as usual.

Adjacent to the hotel is a pub courtyard/beer garden and the noise level from it was appalling. Not just loud music but shouting, swearing, screaming (yes, literally!) and what sounded like drunken fights. Closing the windows was very little help. I tried turning on the TV, but it was drowned out. The noise went on until the wee small hours and sleep was impossible.
The hotel has no redeeming features. Staff are distant and uninterested; they do their job while all but ignoring the guests as people. At breakfast there was plenty of cereal and pastries but the cooked breakfast was reminiscent of wartime rationing.
The bathroom fittings made for awkward use. The tap on the (high) hand basin was so close to the edge, it was not possible to get the hands under it to wash them; likewise the shower head was so close to the wall it wasn't possible to get right underneath it; the towel rail was only big enough to hold the hand towel so the bath towel had to be left on the window sill. Oh, and the toilet roll holder was loose, so the toilet roll kept sliding off.
To top it all off, I noticed a couple of bugs in the carpet.
Unless you yourself spend your nights in the pub getting drunk, yelling swear words and getting into fights, and only want somewhere to sleep off your hangover, I would not recommend this hotel. In fact, avoid it unless there is no other option, and even then think twice.

Excellent location. Nice room. Friendly staff. Short walk to parking. The shower had very low pressure but otherwise it was a pleasant place to stay and breakfast was great.
