The room was very cold and the bathroom was even colder as there was no heating in the room.
The beds were too low (I have rheumatoid arthritis so struggle to get up from low seats or beds) and the mattress was too soft.
The TV was tiny and there was a very limited supply of tea/milk.
However, the staff were very helpful and the breakfast was very good.

Amazing service and lovely place.
Great location right in city center. Pubs just around the Corner.

Really good value for money, great location and staff were fantastic.
Rooms themselves are slightly dated but clean.

Although the Hotel is a bit tited and needs some TLC we had a Great stay Felix at breakfast is amazing shout out to her, in fact she is one of the reasons we have booked again thank you John and Laura Mulrooney.

Been before but the place we stayed has got new owners and does need a lot of work doing. They don’t have a pub there and the hotel rooms need new windows. Other than that girls are fine and breakfast was good too. The other problem was we had to walk up to our hotels with all our bags too as the lift needs fixing.

We had a lovely time there the staff were friendly, we had big room everything was there what you needed.

Very friendly and welcoming staff in a hotel that's perfectly positioned in the totally wonderful town (a new discovery for me) of Shrewsbury. A thoroughly enjoyable stay, thank you.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was clean and had a very comfortable bed. Had a good selection of different food for breakfast. Over all, very happy with my stay.

Nice room, comfy bed and very welcoming reception staff, good breakfast.

Very nice hotel, full of character. My single room was warm, comfortable, and quiet. I was only staying for one night, and I wanted to park my car until late in evening. The hotel allowed me to use their car park at no extra charge, even though check-out was by 11:00, which was a nice gesture. Breakfast was delicious, and was served promptly.

ideally situated in the center of town, plenty of restaurants, pubs, good shopping. car parking on site ,£5 per night, great value. Rooms were spacious, warm and very comfortable, decor typical of the age of the property.
excellent value for money with a cooked English breakfast included.
Web site needs updating, no bar, no restaurant but plenty of choice in the area

A comfortable bed and a spacious room but the bathroom needed a few fixes- the toilet handle was loose and the shower head was loose. The tv was tiny and at the furthest corner of the room from the bed. Only one chair at the table instead of two and the WiFi was rather slow.

The hotel was very clean & comfortable, the staff were very friendly & helpful . Breakfast was very tasty & varied , plenty of choices & served fast & hot .

Really enjoyed our 2 nights at The Lion, the staff were friendly and helpful, got a room on the first floor so not too many steps, very clean and comfortable and spacious, as expected the floorboards were creaky, but wasnt an issue, breakfast excellent, and we were blown over by shrewsbury, gorgeous town, quirky pubs, great architecture, and very vibrant, definitely returning and will stay at The Lion again.

Lovely stay, the hotel is very old and the furnishings stay lin line with that. Its creaky and spooky which is fun and the staff were all very friendly.

Noisiest hotel ive ever stayed in. Very loud music til late, which by itself wouldnt have been so bad. However, every door closing, every voice, laugh, TV, phone call...completely audible from our room. After an hour of someone in the room above us stomping around causing the walls to shake, i had a migraine. I spoke to reception who initially said that there was nobody above us (there were no floor plans anywhere...isn't this a requirement for fire regs?). Then they said that the room above us would be empty that night. 3.30pm we were relaxing in the room and Stompy McStomp returned. We went downstairs and they asked if we had our "old room card". It must happen so often that they just assumed we would move rooms. We asked what the compensation would be; of course the manager wasn't in. We explained that we couldnt be bothered to move our stuff with no guarantee of compensation so we left after one night. Obviously paid for all 3.
Lots of bad smells in the hotel. Think the room had been smoked in in the past from the smell. Pubes in the bathroom. Lazy maintenance - they installed a second toilet roll holder and didnt bother removing the first.
There was the standard sign about washing towels and the environment- interesting given that when we arrived the heating was on full and windows all open.
The parking is a scam - signs state £10 per day. Luckily id forgotten my password as when we checked in at reception they said it's £5 if you pay there. Greedy, lazy owners.

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a bit tried but the staff really do make the effort. Room was clean and tidy, no complaints.
Breakfast was good, would stay again

I wanted to leave early. Room on the third floor with no lift - despite signs for lift on each floor. Water pipe running through room so noisy to affect sleep. Picture fell off the wall at 1:14am and terrified us. Manager said "we are supposed to be haunted!" It was simply bad workmanship.
Carpets were dirty and threadbare. Fire alarms going off two mornings running, probably set off by steam from showers due to no ventilation in bathrooms.
Loved the town, will avoid hotel in future. Local residents asking us what it was like now the asylum seekers have moved out after 20 months. Explains lack of maintenance. Too busy living off its history and listed status.

A well placed hotel situated right in the town centre. Good parking facilities. The hotel is an historic building and as such feels slightly dated. There is no lift, so quite a trek up to the 3rd floor. However all in all for what we paid for the room it was very good value for money

This is a very old building, with creaky floors and slightly worn carpets - but it is very clean. My room was large, perhaps a little old fashioned, but was clean and comfortable. The windows had internal double glazing to keep out the noise and blackout curtains the light. The bathroom was clean and there were plenty of hangers in the wardrobe.
The breakfast served was amazing with fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereals, fresh toast (you make it yourself) and a good full english on offer.
The location is perfect for exploring Shrewsbury and all the staff I encountered were friendly.
Only downside - there was no bar open in the evening which would have been nice for a nightcap.

Atmospheric old building - OK for overnight stay, right in the historic centre of Shrewsbury. Cooked breakfast is included but nothing to write home about - bacon, egg and tomato all very poor.

Hotel recently reopened apparently. A little tired but room clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great. Staff very friendly and welcoming.

Hotel very shabby and run down. Our room had rusty dirty windows with broken glass they wouldnt close, so we had a lot of outside noise. We could hear every sound from the rooms around us, talking, moving, bathrooms. The was a dog yapping in a room nearby and owners loud shutting itup.
Small double bed, 2 old bedside tables and one table with waste bin. No info like wifi, nothing. Broken tiles in bathroom, yellowed floor covering. Worn carpets. Its all.just old and worn out.
The most worn, unappealing hotel/b&b ever stayed in.

Excellent value for money, great location, staff really friendly and welcoming, with an excellent breakfast.
Really enjoyed our three night stay, thank you.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay with staff who could not have given more of their time.

Had a great 3 night stay here.
Hotel is 10 min walk from station and central for shops, bars and restaurants.
Staff are lovely - very helpful. I had a quiet and comfortable single room at the back of the hotel - good size for a single and a bath tub is always welcome.
Breakfast (included in the price) was great: fresh fruit salad and yogurts, plenty of cereals and pastries and a delicious hot breakfast cooked to order. Would recommend this hotel and hope to stay again.

We used to stay at the Lion pre closure for Migrants, so it was good to see they have reopened for business again. We were pleasantly surprised by how nice & comfortable our room was. I hope they keep the pricing affordable not like other places about the town, to me they have all priced themselves out of our budget. So a big well done to The Lion, at these prices you will be a roaring success.

The breakfast and customer services were very good. But the public stra carpeting was dirty and worn.

The hotel is in a great location close to shops, bars and restaurants. It has on site parking which is a great bonus for a town center location. The building is very old and has many period features. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable the furniture was old fashioned and in keeping with the age of the property. The breakfast which was included in the price was very good with plenty of options including fruit and cereal, pastries and toast, full English, tea coffee and juices. I also noted that gluten free options were available. Now the downsides - the circulation spaces are very tired and in desperate need of refurbishment the carpets are worn and there is a musty smell that comes with age. There are a lot of stairs so the property would not be suitable for less mobile or wheelchair guests. The restaurant and bar are currently closed but apparently the owner is working towards reopening them.
I would definitely stay again as the price I paid offered good value for money and I don’t expect properties of this age to be perfect.

This is a very old and historic hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although I arrived too early for check in I was able to leave my bag there and they gave me directions and a map of where I wanted to go.
The room had recently been decorated, the bed and pillows were very comfortable. As mentioned this is a very old building so the floor boards are creaky and there is no double glazing. There are sash windows. I had a view of the main street which was fantastic, if a little noisy. Bathroom very clean and lovely shower. Apparently the room I stayed in had also been occupied by Charles Dickens.
Breakfast was great. I can't eat gluten. They had a choice of gluten free cereals, fruit, and cooked breakfast.
Ideal location right on a main street with easy access to everything,
