Booked for a gig at the Guildhall and this hotel is a very easy 10 minute walk to the venue. Loads of places to eat. Took advantage of the 10% discount at some stores for holiday inn guests. Wasn’t sure about where to park, and missed the entrance to the hotel but just parked in the gunwharf main multi storey. Ticket validated at check in and it was made clear free for 24 hours, then £2 per day. I think this should be made clearer upon booking. Breakfast was good, had to wait for some items to be topped up but at least it was all quite fresh. Our only complaint really was the bed which wasn’t comfortable and dipped in the middle. We didn’t sleep well which was a shame as everything else worked really well for us.

The staff are brilliant at this hotel so friendly.

We arrived a little early on Friday afternoon but the welcome was warm and accommodating and gave us useful information about Gunwharf Quays in general as well as the hotel. The hotel does a special rate for the main car park at gunwharf Quays at £2 a day which is excellent. They also have a great selection for breakfast, we were warned not to leave breakfast too late as it gets busy so we went down early and although busy it was easy to get what you wanted and the staff were very helpful. We stayed for two nights and our friends made a comment about their mattress which was very noisy and bouncy they receptionist was helpful and stayed they may be able to love room but in the end as it was only one more night they stayed in the same room, but the staff were again eager to ensure their stay was good. A great place to stay right on Gunwharf Quays very friendly and helpful staff will definitely stay there again.

Great location, good price and very nice breakfast
4.1
Breakfast not as good as other Holiday Inn Express I have stayed in

Lyndsey and Lee were very kind and friendly to us during our stay. It’s in a great location and the parking was free. It was quite expensive for what it is so probably wouldn’t stay again unless it was cheaper.

Family room booked well in advance. Autumn stay. Room was very hot when we arrived- 27 degrees. Put fan system on straight away and went out for a few hours to let it cool down. Came back to find it at 27degrees. Window handle was missing so couldn't get any air in. Rang reception to be told fan system was broken in hotel and they wouldn't come to fix/ look at window. No spare rooms to move us to. Would not have stayed but we had had a drink with dinner out. No one slept as so hot and stuffy. Poor customer service. Would not stay again!

Daniel at reception was very polite and friendly

We arrived early so we really appreciated getting a room right away. However, the overall feel of the place is just tired. You have to use your key card to turn on the lights, but they only stayed on for around 20 minutes and then you had to take the card out and reinsert it. Surprising that the only hotel in a sleek shopping area on the water isn't nicer.

Excellent weekend in Portsmouth

Great location in Gunwharf to access shopping and bars. Friendly staff. Free parking for first 24 hours. Room compact but bed comfortable. However room and shower room was very tired and in need of a refresh.

Typical Holiday inn Express. Bit chaotic on arrival - better signing to entrance when driving would be helpful & bigger area to unload as no space - had to drive into large underground car park (plenty of space) but then walk back long way carrying stuff to hotel. Room was fine though bed mattress sinking in middle a bit & noise outside woke us early on Sunday.
Sunday breakfast at 09.30 was certainly peak time - only one poor woman racing around trying to clean & clear tables was woefully insufficient despite her heroic efforts. No spare tables. Food stock on display very diminished & not stocked up in time - it got better by 10.15. I guess many folk stay for shopping & the shops opening later on Sundays means most will want to come down for the last hour of breakfast - as this is clearly a known factor, maybe staff and prepare better for it?
Staff were helpful. great to have the parking
All in all, you are paying a premium for the location and nothing else

The staff were friendly but professional and very helpful, especially Marie Ann

Hair in kettle mould on shower curtain
Duty glasses plates and cutlery at breakfast

Great location for our purpose, good cleanliness and friendly staff, breakfast has improved from our last stay, nice sounding for a weekend stay.

Great location and quiet room

Very enjoyable stay. Breakfast was good, lots of choices.
Staff all very friendly and helpful. Nice and easy check in.
Thank you.

The room was really neat, but we had to ask to get the fold out bed made up, then ask for a bigger duvet for it.
Staff very friendly though, and gave the family ice-cream on arrival which was nice. They also made sure we were aware of discounts we could use locally. The only negative was it was squash not juice with breakfast which was a tiny issue.

A very small room that is not very accessible.

Excellent location

The hotel was perfectly fine. The beds were comfortable and the shower pressure was good. The building is a bit dated and the hallways could use some lighting and paint. The staff were excellent, and very friendly, attentive and helpful.
4.1
Very quiet and clean.
4.1
Staff really helpful and friendly. Hotel needs a bit of sprucing up though. Furniture needs updating, bed wasn’t comfortable and couldn’t shut the window. Bathroom needs updating. One night was enough.
4.1
Great check with a lovely complimentary ice cream. Also used the discounts available at the local restaurants. Perfect location and very comfortable

Our stay was good but not amazing a few silly little things just took the edge off things, we paid extra for a bigger room and views of the spinnaker tower, yet the extra space was taken up by the sofa bed being made up leaving little room let alone extra room and turns out the good view comes at a cost you’re just above a nightclub that is open until 1am on a Saturday very noisy, look this sounds a bad review it honestly isn’t the position of the hotel is fantastic and everything is generally very nice just little things make me drop a star

All was very good
4.1
Great location! Probably the worst nights sleep I have ever had. The bed was uncomfortable and not suitable for 2 adults, poor quality mattress & pillows!!!
4.1
The view was really good wth the Spinnaker tower rising above the next building. On the ground views of neighbouring shops tand little bridges. Cleanliness ver good with crisp clean sheets. And towels were refreshed only if you left them on the floor ensuring only necessary cleaning. Well done IHG and all the staff at Holiday Inn at Gunwharf Quay!!!

Great Location.
4.1
Very Convenient location to all the areas I wanted to see
4.1
Unclean room, uncomfortable bed, staff not particularly helpful. Disappointing.
4.1
Room overlooked delivery bays for shops in adjoining shopping centre. Also nearby passageways seemingly used as toilets and flats opposite apparently student accommodation and noisy. This was not helped by the aircon system in the hotel not working so had to sleep with windows open
4.1
No air conditioning and not able to open the windows, Maria on front desk was brilliant and helpful finding us a fan. Other than that ok.
4.1
Great location close to shops and transportation
4.1
It was ok comfortable for what we needed
4.1
Excellent location for Gunwharf Quays shopping clubbing harbour tours ext. Staff helpful & friendly. Rooms good. Tea coffee available all day. Breakfast is included but though plenty of everything not great for taste or freshness
4.1
Hotel is in a great location and parking is free for first 24 hours and then £2 a day thereafter.
Breakfast area is quite small so gets very busy at peak times but was happy with choice of food. Although both days bananas were old and bruised which surprises me with such a high turnover.
Room is comfortable, bed is on wheel and squeaks a bit but fine. Nice to have choice of pillows. Bathroom is a bit tired and needs a really good deep clean.
4.1
Nice staff, good location but the room was falling apart.
Black mould & thick limescale in bathroom, window handle broken, chair stained and filthy.
Worst of all an electrical plate with a cover hanging off seemed a potential danger for kids with small fingers.
4.1
Outstanding location. A pretty average chain hotel
4.1
Would stay here again. Fab location, staff great, overall great
