Great everything I expected
1.5
Positive- Nice sraff and wonderful breakfast
Negative- Mattress was awful and i just dis not sleep. Dont stay in the outdoor rooms, all you hear is other guests coming and going!

Stayed here for two nights as part of a longer business trip. The hotel is located at a race course and has a lovely grounds with water fountains and other features.
The room was alright for a couple of nights. I was expecting something similar to the photos but it was wayyy more dated. Being at the racecourse, I'm sure it has seen some heavy sessions in its time. The smell of stale cigarettes greeted me as I first walked through the door. The towel radiator in the bathroom gave me a little tingle when I touched it.
The stay was saved by the excellent food in the Jockey Club restaurant coupled with the brilliant service there. Breakfast was different on each day with day one being a buffet style - the best buffet breakfast I've ever had. The second day was table service, equally as great.
Evening meals were fantastic and the waiting staff even brought out little tasters which were compliments of the chef.
The hotel bar is OK with the odd singer playing as entertainment.

It was comfortable and a nice big room for what we paid but because of the price it was basic and very ‘brown’!! It wouldn’t take much to bring it into the 21st century

I didn’t realise it was right beside the racecourse at Ayre. It was a superb venue easy walk into the town plenty of parking and I’m not one for usually promoting weather spoons West Kirk pub in Ayre had been a church and just for a look well worth a visit.

2nd stay in as many months - very happy with the accommodation. Great size room with all essentials and a proper hair dryer

The main hotel with reception is lovely, beautiful fountain outside the main entrance. Lovely staff :-) My room was in a separate more modern building, very clean and fresh but no lift to the first floor where i was located.
Very spacious room, good size bathroom with desk space to work. Extra blankets and pillows were available, as was iron and board, and a proper hairdryer!
2.5
Stayed in one of the annexes just a short walk from the main hotel which overlooks Ayr racecourses. I had a king size bed all to myself and the room was nice and clean and well kept. I ate at the main restaurant and the food was excellent. They even spoilt me with a complimentary amuse bouche which was amazing! Hats off to the chef. The food bill was very reasonable as well for the quality and portion size. Would definitely stay there again.

This property is amazing well kept spacious grounds. Lovely older building (main hotel). Excellent food service and very helpful staff.Walkable to Mill Street shops and a modern Tesco around the corner.
Big shout out to Elaine for all her assistance.
Would I stay here again? In an instant. Rooms need mini fridges but other than that great place, good location and a memorable stay!

The hotel is ideally located for Ayr and the racecourse.
The grounds are lovely and there is a large, free car park.
Check in and check out were both warm and efficient.
Standard rooms are in the Courtyard area. The room was clean but very dated in terms of its decor. One of the taps in the bathroom was loose and moved. The toilet ran/dripped all night which was disturbing. There was no air conditioning.
Breakfast is served in the hotel restaurant. Guests are told to find their own table and serve their own food and drinks from the hot and cold buffet options. The range of hot food was good and included potato cakes and Lorne sausages, and the cold buffet included various melons, yoghurt, many cereals and warmed pastries. There was no choice of cooked/cured meats or cheeses. Tables were left dirty and we observed people being seated at tables that had not been fully cleaned/refreshed.

Lovely hotel next to the racecourse. Staff were very friendly and welcoming,
My father is in a wheelchair and had an accessible room which was well appointed and comfortable.
We ate our evening meal in the restaurant and it was excellent and good value.
We were there to meet family and we all met up and had morning coffee, all lovely and the lounge area was very good. Perfect for a small reunion and catch up. Thank you

We stayed over for a wedding
The only thing I’d say that is bad about the place is the breakfast

Amazing hotel. Rooms are so nice. And so close to everything

We have stayed at Western House on several occasions as it is very convenient for us when visiting relatives and friends. The hotel is in a beautiful location and the grounds are beautifully looked after. Parking is easy.

We have stayed at the Western House Hotel before and enjoyed our stay, but unfortunately on this occasion the shower was very disappointing and needs replacement.

Rooms have excellent sound proofing. Front of house and restaurant teams were excellent. Because of wedding breakfast was a buffet rather than table service but not too much of a problem. Only slight gripe was ventilation in the bathroom whereby shower steam made it virtually impossible to see and had the impact of setting off in room fire alarm - however all dealt with quickly and by friendly staff. Great parking and lovely hotel

Early check in great as we were there for a wedding. Lovely hotel room clean and comfortable

Will be back in September

Chose hotel based on reviews and location for the Open Golf. Understood prices were inflated. Stayed in the annexe building which is ok but not as nice as the hotel itself but the bedroom was nice. Breakfast was one of the best we’ve had and the staff at breakfast were lovely. Right next to Ayr Racecourse. Would definitely stay again

Even though we were early we were made to feel welcome. Our bags were looked after as we had a walk round the town. When we returned our room was ready. I was there for a visit and a funeral and the arrangements were very good and the staff very helpful.

Going back decades, my late mother was Head Cook at Western House - so it was a bit of a pilgrimage .. and yes, a privilege to return as a hotel guest when I happened to be back in Ayr. A delightful room on the edge of but very close to the centre of town and situated on the side of Ayr Racecourse. In every way, the place ticks the boxes, offers impressive value for money - and full marks to the kitchen and dining room staff: the cuisine is fresh, prepared and presented with care - and, all in all, top notch 👍

Very nice hotel would recommend.

Room was spacious and i was on a low floor in the annexe part which was easy for me .
Drinks are reasonable for the hotel.didnt have food so cannot comment on that.
The bed was very comfortable to use.and tea and coffee were provided.
So close for the racecourse and enjoed wayching the horses being drpped off for the races.
Definitely a returning trip to here worthwhile

From check in, to check out, bar staff to restaurant staff, everyone was polite and attentive throughout.
Our Exec room was comfortable and nice rain shower although I am not a fan of single all in one shampoo and shower wash so I deducted a point for that.
Served breakfast was very nice.
2.0
The room in the courtyard was very dated. The bathroom was dysfunctional and dangerous.
Entrance to courtyard was scruffy and dirty.
Quilt was not big enough for bed.
We would not recommend this hotel

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Service was commendable. Very friendly. Room was spotless and comfortable. Surrounding grounds stunning. Will definitely be back.

Excellent hotel but the rooms away from the main hotel are looking dated and in need of an upgrade. The main hotel is worthy of it’s 4 stars.
5.0
Lovely stay and dinner. Large room with massive comfortable bed and spacious bathroom.
2.0
Lovely setting and facilities in main building.
Attentive and pleasant staff on duty:
Food: Dinner very good: with decent portion size (sea trout). Breakfast OK, although a little stingy with portion size
Bedroom: good size, but room heater did not work! As a result, we were cold in bed; no additional blanket available. Duvet also badly inserted in cover, making a less than ideal sleep.
Reasonable value.

Lovely friendly & helpful staff. Spacious & clean room!

We enjoyed our first stay at the Western House Hotel, although the windows on our room on the ground floor of the annex faced a very unsightly building (car parking for disabled drivers is located in front). As the main building is so attractive and the grounds are excellent, we were surprised by this.

great place for us to stay
