We were upgraded to a better room so that was really nice. Room up on 2nd floor and without a lift just as well we could carry our own luggage. Room very comfortable, although we noticed that the bathroom radiator didn't work. Shower excellent. All very clean with nice tea/coffee making facilities.
Breakfast very good with a good variety of choices. We ate in the restaurant in the evening once. Food nicely prepared and served well.
Our biggest gripe is having to pay to park in the hotel car park. This is the first time we've encountered this and were very surprised by this. Additionally they charge Service Charge on every drink or meal. It didn't matter to us, but we overheard a few complaints about this.

We had a lovely couple of nights at the hotel. Everything was brilliant. Staff were so helpful. Can not fault anything. Will definitely return. Thanks again,
Paul and Jane.

A brilliant find in a unique and chilled out location. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and flexible. The property has clearly had an excellent refurbishment. Nice spa. Couldn't fault our stay at all.

Excellent hotel with great facilities, the free use of the spa was a bonus and perhaps needs to be highlighted a bit more? Dinner and breakfast were both excellent and super service. High recommended

We only stayed one night but found the hotel delightful. We had stayed before but it was approaching 20 years ago. It was good then, but has been improved with well appointed rooms and a new conservatory restaurant overlooking the gardens which are alongside the River Rothay. Dinner was excellent and breakfast was of a good standard too.

As a regular in the Lake District, my husband and I decided to stay at Rothay Gardens. Check in was functional but not particularly welcoming. Not informed of vip credit until departure. The room was clean and tidy, furniture tired and the room was small. I would suggest that the compulsory service charge is just put in the price of drinks and food. Overall, a functional stay, but would stay elsewhere in the future. were I felt my stay was better value and customer service was of a greater standard

No lift so it’s an inconvenience walking up and down flights of stairs. Low beam on the ceiling, really banged my head on it during the night.
Bathroom could do with being upgraded slightly. Looks tired.
The spa could do with a bit of upgrading. It would be nice to be able to order drinks to it.
Nice location.

We stayed for one night in the lodge & it was beyond outstanding! There was only 4 of us but it can be booked for upto 6 people. It was immaculate and well kitted out with really nice furnishings that had a luxurious feel. It was the comfiest & best nights sleep I’ve had during any stay anywhere. The staff were excellent and they gave us great directions up to the local Tarn which was a nice walk with kids. We were even able to take a cold dip in a fall on the way to the top thanks to the information & route that the gentleman checking us in shared with us. Staff were beyond helpful & welcoming. We would highly recommend if you want to stay in a beautiful setting with great facilities and incredible customer service & in a great location then I would highly recommend booking.

Perfect location just on the edge of the centre of Grasmere (a short stroll), next to the river and a beautiful backdrop. Classic room was small but cosy, with character and a nice large bathroom. The view from the room could have been better as you looked out on the road, although it was nice to see the hills in the distance. Some hotel storage containers immediately below detracted from the view. The hotel public areas were nicely furnished. The highlight was the marvellous spa facility, which is an 'outhouse' with a backdrop to the hills and a lovely outdoor space for relaxing whilst looking on to the well maintained gardens. It was also nice to be able to get a drink from the bar to sit outside the spa. Shame the aromatherapy room wasn't functioning. Our main dissapointment with the hotel was breakfast - the service was frustrating - twice we asked for a particular table (that were available) and was told no - in one case because the table was for three people (there were two of us) and in the other case it was because the table was 'not made up' (which it subsequently was for guests who sat down shortly after) - not what you expect from a 4 star hotel. As for the food - the continental range could be better and my wife struggled with the runny eggs (arguably personal preference). We just didnt feel the breakfast/service was quite up to the standard you would expect for this type of property. Despite this, we enjoyed our stay at Rothay Garden in beautiful Grasmere!

Nice stay in well located hotel. Staff were friendly and efficient. Room was clean and adequately spacious with a small balcony. Enjoyed the lovely wee spa. Thought the parking charge for residents was an unnecessary at the price but otherwise very happy with everything. Breakfast was good too.

Disappointed with room. Located in roof with small windows , no balcony
Spa facilities very poor, aromatherapy steam room and hydro pool not working !!

A lovely quiet location, picturesque gardens and nice spacious room. As this is a 4 star hotel we had high expectations. Some things a bit surprisingly is the £10 per day parking, part of the spa facilities not working (aromatherapy room) and some of the drink and food prices were eye watering. We had a meal in the restaurant and we were still hungry. The room also missed a condom wrapper when cleaning! The customer service was really good, nice food and drink just overpriced. The gardens are lovely to sit in and the spa is relaxing just on the small side.

On arrival the hotel looked great, friedly staff on the desk.
Overall we had a lovely stay. We had two rooms and the double overlooking the river behind was idyllic.
Downsides:
* Noise from the room above - the residents weren't crashing about but you could hear every footstep, loudly when they were in the bathroom.
* Spa - whilst a lovely pool overlooking the scenery, both the aromatherapy room and sauna were out of order during our stay.
* Surprised a little that residents were charged for parking although in retrospect can see "Self parking fee" (what other type of parking is there?) in the property info.

Lovely, friendly staff and lovely room with balcony overlooking the river . We spent the first two nights of our honeymoon there. It was just a shame the spa bath in our room didn't work and we didn't get anything extra to acknowledge our recent wedding. However we still had a great time and will definitely return.

First time stay and we loved Grasmere. Problems in the restaurant on the first two of our four night stay. We dined out the other 2. Room size, location and setting excellent and staff were great. But, oh dear! The cleanliness!! Towels and linen were good but room doors and skirtings etc were grubby and worn. We are aware that Harbour Hotels have just taken over and that a refurb is about to get under way, so I am sure the shortfalls will be addressed.

Property was ok riverside room option preferred, dining very limited and over priced, much more variety and great quality food in Grasmere village, spa gteat after a hard day walking but service was vatiable between good and Indifferent

Our 2 night stay at Rothay Garden was excellent. The staff were exceptional, nothing was to much trouble and the facilities were excellent. The bar prices were actually lower than most of the local bars although the restaurant prices were a bit higher than some of the local restaurants, however the service and quality were very good. Looking forward to visiting again.

The staff team were amazing, all of them, from the welcome to recommendations and ideas for things to do and how to get there. The room was fantastic and the breakfast perfect.

Reception staff unprofessional, left me waiting at reception and started serving another lady who had just turned up and then says “my bad” when it is pointed out.
Drinks extortionate, charged £1.90 service charge just for buying a drink at the bar.

we like Rothay Garden. it’s location is great for Grasmere and the surrounding hills - the rooms, whilst not massive, are clean comfortable (some have stream view balconies). The team are warm and attentive. breakfast is great quality and evening meals are food to for those that want an easy dining option. the spa is a nice touch. There are plenty of hotels upping the “pretentious quotient” and expecting their customers to pay for it.Save the cash and stay here. RG produces good quality and fair VFM. Three trips and still returning.

Stunning hotel with fantastic facilities we loved the spa and had a lovely drink outdoors in the sun afterwards where bar service is available at the touch of a button, breakfast had many options including gluten free and was delicious.

We were looking for a relaxing weekend and this was the perfect place .Idilic location, lovely spa area, delightful dinner and a warm welcome .
The only problem was that as a vegetarian, I was given a meat sausage with my breakfast and the response that ‘it had never happened before’ didn’t feel like an adequate explanation.

We were staying for 5 nights at the Rothay Hotel. It is a lovely hotel in a wonderful setting. However, the addition of a daily parking charge at the time we checked in was a shock. (Yes- I know, it was probably buried in the T & C's).To make matters worse, when I asked about the charge I was told it only applies to those who book via third party booking platforms. But not to those people who book direct! This is clearly a discriminatory practice, and the hotel passing on the platforms booking fee by charging it to the end customer, effectively penalising us.
On the plus side the breakfasts were very good and served to your table by friendly, pleasant staff. Our room 24, currently has the world's smallest TV. About 24 inches. I didn't think they still made them that small. The Spa was a nice plus. The best time to use it is mid-afternoon, when the other guests are out.

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds, and has a beautiful, warm interior. We received a lovely warm welcome from reception. Our room was immaculate and has everything we needed, including a lovely balcony looking out into the well maintained gardens.
The spa is small but very nice and has stunning views from the hydro pool. The spa does need a little TLC in terms of the rusty vents above the pool, and the steam room wasn't working. Overall a really nice spa, and free for guests to use, which isn't always the case at some hotels.
Our only gripe was the quality of some of the food we were served for our evening meal, and the time it took. We were also charged £10 to park our car in the hotel grounds.

Lovely hotel with excellent views in the heart of the Lake District. We could sit outside on our room’s patio and take in the views. The spa was a bonus. Food excellent. Reception gave excellent service and ensured we had a room suitable for our needs. Recommend highly. Hope to be back soon.

The location, staff, hotel communal areas and the grounds were very good.
We stayed in a Deluxe Double Room which was "not" really impressive and parts of the ceiling had obviously been damaged by a leak at some stage.
The “unannounced” charges for parking and gratuities for drinks ordered at the bar and also for meals in the restaurant are the first we have ever encountered; they probably won't encourage guests to return.

Only negative is £10 per night parking charge.

Stunning location, cute small spa with great views (aromatherapy room didnt seem to be working/on with no note to explain).
Had to move rooms due to a hum when trying to go to sleep... this was easily done.
Very clean overall. Staff not so happy, seem a little stressed and out of touch - When welcomed i didnt get key information ie check out time, spa facilities and where they were... had to ask a lot of basic questions. Also, breakfast was very good except for the very watery mushrooms and undercooked hashbrowns (i asked for a replacement and it was still underdone).
Check out is 11am which as a spa seems a little early... i think if it was 12 it could really enhance the experience.

Very friendly staff.
Not sure about £10 parking cost.
