I always love staying here the location is excellent. The balcony rooms are very good with a nice view of the street. The breakfast service unfortunately this time was very average. The selection, quality and quality. I also had a lot of trouble and attitude getting my refund back which was very disappointing considering I’m a regular here. On a positive note Grace at reception was a breathe of fresh air! Very helpful and very friendly! One of the nicest staff I’ve ever met in Greece.

The position of the hotel was perfect for walking to all the places we wanted to see.
It was only a few minutes walk from the Acropolis one way up the walkway and a few minutes walk from the bustling restaursnts the other way but lovely and quiet in the evenings.
The room was comfortable and cool with everything in it we needed.
The welcome we received was exceptional Grace in partcular on the reception desk, so very warm and friendly.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone and we will be coming back!

Did not refund credit card payment. Expedia is a big scam.

We ended up on the street because you were not able to provide us with a livable room to stay.
We were moved to Golden City hotel, and they offered us an apartment and not a hotel room, with no chair, no towels, dirty bed someone used before and never changed, with a hole in the shower.
Instead of a wonderful stay we've got a terrible experience that left us with unpleasant memories about Athens.
We request a full refund as soon as possible.

I like location, room, breakfast
Issues with toilet paper. Blanket cleankiness, and sometimes nobody in reception when we needed.

The electricity was out at the hotel so they moved us to another hotel that was 20 minutes away and there were homeless people sleeping outside the hotel accross the street. The room was very small and there was no coffee in the morning before our flight out.

Lovely hotel in a superb location. Many of the sites of central Athens are within easy walking distance and it’s also well served by public transport. Despite being so well located, the hotel is in a less bustling, pedestrianised area, so it is peaceful at night. The staff were also really polite and helpful and the breakfast is good with a nice selection of Greek specialties.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and accomdating. Neighbourhood restaurants were charming and exceptional food at every one. Attractions were within walking distance and Acropolis at night time was breath taking.

I was taking an early morning cruise and was going to miss breakfast. They kindly packed a to-go one for me and was waiting at the front desk at 6 am when I departed. So considerate. They were also very generous with tourist information. Would stay here again.

Good location! I booked it for 3 nights. BUT I did not get the room I paid for i was sent to basement - very uncomfortable. I had to book in another hotel for 2nd night and they finally gave me the room I paid for on the 3rd night.

The best thing this property has going is the location: Thasio is a very nice area by the Acropolis. While walking one can get to the Acropolis and lots of restaurants. Very close to Monastiraki and the market. Great area!!!
About the property: Not only the room where I stayed was extremely small without place to accommodate luggage and the bathroom as well extremely small, very difficult to use the toilet without almost hitting yourself with the wall across from the toilet. The shower stahl very tight as well and very poor drainage from the shower.
The room located in the basement without any windows is actually not a healthy approach.
About the staff: Generally speaking professionally although not everyone is knowledgeable of the surroundings.
If I recommend this hotel to my friends, it will be solely for the location, as it is absolutely a great location not because of the facilites and/or staff.
Hope they work to improve the place, as this small hotel has a lot of potential.

We had a confirmed reservation but were told the hotel was fully booked. Didn't get the room and were still charged the room at the credit card from hotels.com

Had the worst experience ever and looking at the others reviews it looks like it's not the first time this happened at this hotel, when we got there they told us all of our 4 rooms werent available and we had to move to another hotel withing 1 mile radio, all is a lie, we were moved to a sister property located in a bad neigborhood , it was horrible, we booked this hotel because the area and we were sent to a the worse of the worse, besides that we booked 4 rooms and ended up in 2 rooms for 8 people , we had to accepted because we didnt have any other solutions and we were in a country that was not our place of redidence, I wont book this hotel, book others in the same area there are many of them

I have booked the hotel since it is next to ancient sights, their check in is until 2200, and we have arrived to the airport at 2/00, they moved me away from the hotel to the hotel 20 min walk in the middle of not interesting area to go for a walk. The stay in the area would be ok if you have a lot of time, but if you have only 3 hours in the morning to explore that extra time to get to the sights is important. Very disappointing. I had to pay 50 euro to get to the hotel on taxi not be able to right away to go for a walk, the area is not walkable, taxi drivers are not willing to take you short distance or one took us all around to make extra, I have a map on my phone and I had to pay 20 euro for a short distance. It ended up costing me much more staying in a different hotel from the hotel of my choice.

They canceled our stay a day before and told Expedia that the hotel was under construction. But I had family members there, and there was no construction. Liars and so unprofessional

A fabulous location where everything is easily walkable to. A well decorated and clean place with a great breakfast and good WiFi. I stayed in a basement room (tried to get upgraded several weeks in advance but no availability!) which I wouldn’t do again. They do need to have a maintenance guy visit though as the sink, shower holder and toilet roll holder were all coming away from the wall, but only a small point!

There were no rooms available. We were with more people. Some of us were sent to another hotel of the same owners. That hotel was far away in a bad region.

I booked a 1 night hotel stay (Phidias Hotel) in Athens back in April for a trip in September. Full payment was made at the time of booking.
I contacted the Phidias Hotel by email 2 days in advance of our arrival to let them know we would be arriving late (approx 1:00am) due to a change in a ferry schedule. I did not receive a response to my email so assumed that all was OK.
When we arrived at the hotel we were told that the hotel was over-booked due to other guests that needed to over-stay due to flight cancellations. I was told that the over-staying guests could not be asked to leave under Greek law. As a result our pre-booked room was not available to us, however, we were told that they had an association with another hotel in the area and that a room was booked for us there. I asked if the room was of a similar standard and was told that it was a higher standard.
However, upon arrival both the hotel in general and (probably) the room was clearly sub-standard in comparison to the one that we booked. For the night in question, the online rate of Phidias was €160, yet the rate for Hotel Rio Athens was only €60. The room was dirty, there were insects in the bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom smelt of urine. There was dirt on the bathroom floor.
We did not want to accept and stay in this room, so we called on phone the night manager of the Phidias and told him that the room was unacceptable but he could not solve the problem and we had no choice but to stay there.

Excellent location, comfortable breakfast, rather small room, small bathroom with no supports for beauties

Excellent location in quiet pedestrianised area, but within easy walking distance of Acropolis, and Thissio metro station. Plenty of bars and restaurants in the area.

This is our second visit. When we booked I didn’t notice that the room we had booked as without a window. The hotel staff tried their best to contact us beforehand . They managed to recloate us to a better room and thence two days later upgraded us to a magnificent room. What can we say - great service and make sure you carefully check what you book. Effi at reception was fantastic. Breakfast is really delicious and substantial. Location is perfect - close to Thissio metro.

I made two non-refundable Expedia bookings at Hotel Phidias in Athens in May 2018 for September arrival.Having previously experienced dubious Greek business practices, I confirmed my reservations directly with the hotel via email and by phone months in advance. After an overnight flight, we arrived to an overbooked hotel that did not have a room for us! Phidias attempted to move us to another hotel in a terrible area. I was incredulous. Phidias is on a wonderful pedestrian street. That’s why I stayed there often with the previous ethical owners.Upon arrival, I had been speaking to the manager when the owner Constandina intervened (both spoke excellent English). I was calm yet emphatic. She “found” a Phidias room for us. The hotel had knowingly overbooked. Twice during our stay, I observed other couples arriving at Phidias with reservations - only to be shuffled off to another hotel. This hotel uses its prime location as “bait” to fill their other hotels. Unethical and unconscionable. AVOID!

Had a non-refundable reservation five months in advance. Arrived after overseas flight to an overbooked hotel. Hotel tried to switch us to a distant hotel. Did the same to other guests. I threw a fit - and was given a room. Totally unethical. Avoid.

Our experience was a first for us. It wasn’t until I reached out to request a transfer from the airport that we were informed the room we booked, and those similar to it, were going to be unavailable for some days. Due to this, we were taken to Golden City, where the receptionist did not have our name on their list. They straightened it out quickly though and provided us a room and complimentary dinner for our stay. I would be cautious of booking the Phidias Hotel for this reason, as I’ve seen several reviews noting the same thing. Additionally, please be careful going out after dark. It’s not the safest area. I would suggest if you are going to be out after dark that you take an Uber back.

Awful experience in this hotel. We arrived around 4pm and was told that because of “technical difficulties” we need to be relocated to another sister hotel, which happened to many other people before as I check reviews on internet. Clearly the hotel was overbooked and they do it all the time. We were rushed to a taxi and send to the other hotel which was run down and in a horrible neighbourhood and away from the area we wanted to visit so had to go on the metro. From Phidias they offered us free dinner in the other hotel but it was a total joke. We were told we can have spagetti and salad so we had to fight for the menu as we wanted to choose our food. After ordering dinner we were told our drinks - orange juice and coffee are not free and we have to pay for them as free dinner doesnt include drinks! Never ever we had so much headache when travelling. It ruined our stay in Athens. Never again!! Avoid this hotel!!

The staff is excellent and super helpful. We'll be back!
