Fantastic stay.

Salthill Hotel sits right on the coast in Galway, a beautiful and great location. When we arrived, we were told that Hotels.com customers had to pay for parking, which was only €5, not too bad but a little annoying to be siloed because of where the booking originated.
We had three issues with our room. The first is that the room was far too hot, and there was no temperature control in the room. The window only opened a tiny slit, so there was virtually no air circulation and no way to make the room cooler. For a woman in menopause, this is an absolute disaster.
The bathroom didn't have a working exhaust fan either, so it fogged up and stayed that way. Once we showered, the bathroom was unusable for make-up or anything else because of the lack of ventilation.
When I went to blow dry my hair, the socket was located about 15 feet away from the only mirror, so I wasn't able to see what I was doing when drying my hair. Not sure why they didn't put a mirror near the socket?
The next morning, we had to leave rather early. We went to the lobby for breakfast and were told breakfast wasn't available until 8am on Sundays. So we went back upstairs to pack up and get on the road. When we came back downstairs, the breakfast area was open at 7:30! But we had already brushed teeth etc, so we just left.
For €230/night, the whole experience didn't sit well.

Very beautiful hotel. About 2 miles from the Latin quarter but a nice walk along the water. Of note, parking was not included when booked through hotels.com. You have to pay 5 euro for parking for 1 night

We had booked a double room however we were given a room with three beds in it which looked like a dormitory. When we asked for the room type we booked, we were told there were no other rooms available. When we said we weren't happy with the reason being that the hotel "overbooked" the rooms the reception staff said they'd speak to a manager. When we went down to reception the other staff member said he could offer us a "worse" room with no air con or view which we replied saying we didnt need air con and the original room had no view anyway. Upshot is, we got moved to a much nicer room despite there being no alternative rooms available. Funny that. Not a great check in experience. 1 out of the 4 reception staff was polite and helpful, the other 3 shouldn't be working in customer facing jobs in my opinion. Room was a bit tired and old fashioned but the facilities were good.

Rooms are tired and this place needs a good overhaul and soon. The bar is excellent. The barman also excellent but hes leaving soon. Staff are stressed and are very much overworked but managed to just about keep drinks and food going out. 5* for the staff. Breakfast was very good. This is firmly on the tourist map and we shared the breakfast room with 120 Americans with coaches outside every morning and every evening. Needs 20% more staff and the revamp of the rooms.

We loved our stay at Salthill. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Gym was excellent. Morning breakfast provided was delicious. We loved Galway and enjoyed staying a little bit away from the hustle and bustle. Thank you!

Nice but dated property. The room had a distinct old smell which was uncomfortable. Spacious bedroom, but cramped toilet..

Staff were very friendly, food was great but the only complaint I have is where kids running around and kicking the bedroom doors especially my elderly parents bedroom door where they actually damaged the door plus it happened a few times. When we complained felt it wasn’t taken seriously. Plus a resident on our floor followed the 4 boys after kicking the doors and told front desk staff and they weren’t very worried about it or concerned. He felt they didn’t care. Another resident had kids and came running out to a few of the residents (including myself) in the hallway not happy this happened. Major problem going for need to have cameras on each floor.

Its just an old and dated property, and our room was small and not that clean. I am sure there are much better places to stay in town.

Nice hotel! Excellent brunch at The Prom. Don’t miss it.
Easy access to Galway from the city bus stop just outside the hotel across from the sea walk. $1.90 one way fare to downtown Galway next to Eyre square. Never made it to the hotel pool, sauna, whirlpool, etc but will next time for sure. Just need a longer vacation!!!

Terrific location. Very nice facilities - pool, sauna and roomss!

For a 4 star hotel it didn’t have air conditioning, they gave small fan which was not powerful at all. The bedsheet felt very cheap, and would get dirty very quick. For the price the charge, expected better. Very disappointed.

This was a nice hotel in great location. I think the staff could be friendlier- the convenience of parking at the hotel and bus to center city was good!!

Great location. Bar men the star attraction of hotel. V efficient, polite & friendly. Overall service in hotel is average. Experienced slow service for 3 day stay in bar & restaurant from waiting staff. Very slow mode of pace - throughout. Leisure centre excellent.
Members of management could be much friendlier.

What a beautiful little spot to stay in and visit Galway! Front desk staff told us to use the transit system which brought us right to quay street! The views and walks along the bay were breathtaking! Breakfast was fantastic!

Perfect location, Great underground parking facilities including a great pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Staff are very friendly and garden walk at the hotel is beautiful. Highly recommend. One small criticism is that only one dressing gown and pair of slippers where provided but this takes nothing away from the enjoyable stay we had here and will definitely return in the near future.

We stayed for one night, but wish it could have been longer. The hotel is across the street from the sea and we were able to walk to dinner and shops. The room was great except there was only one plug or outlet and it was by the desk. However, we would go back again!

Our hotel stay was so so. Would we stay again answer is no. The staff were not the nicest we seem to be an inconvenience to them anyway the hotel is overpriced for what they offer. We had a standard room which was pretty small, also we could not use the shower as there was no way to stop it from flooding the bathroom. The way it is built there is no lip to retain the water the drain was slow so the water started to spill out onto the bathroom floor.
The pool rules are ridiculous you have to buy a swimming cap. No one can get into the pool without one. Also don’t forget to bring money for the locker otherwise no locker for you clothes if you decide to swim. They also close this area down at 8pm which is rather early.
Would I personally recommend this hotel no. Either way thanks.

Hotel was comfortable and breakfast very good.
Bar food in the evenings was processed and very average.
Spa facilities were tit d and actually smelled bad.

Great location to explore Galway but enjoy quiet and waterfront. The food was great and the jacuzzi and steam room were excellent. We would stay here again.

I really love this hotel and have stayed on multiple occasions. I was a bit taken aback to see that they had installed a payment gate on the parking lot and while allowing guests who booked directly through them to use if for free, they charged guests who booked thru Expedia for their parking...their site states free parking so this was a little slap in the face.
I get the need for the gate, they are across from the beach and non-hotel guests were filling the lots, however, charging Expedia guests to park seemed unfair...we are paying for the same rooms and they are getting the money. Change your site to say free parking for some if you intend to continue this practice.

Room was nice and staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
The restaurants and foods served were not up to what we would have expected from this level of hotel.

Ideally located for salthill promenade including blackrock if you fancied an early morning swim, you wouldnt be alone. The rooms are spacoous , airy and well maintained. The breakfast was scrumptious, with plenty of choice. If i was to say anothong other than an excellent stay, when they the quieter time os between 7 and 8am , only if no tour parties are staying.although the restaurant area was lathe enougb to cater for all.
