About this house rental
Rancho Moco sits on 5 magnificent acres, with dozens of mature Joshua trees, yuccas, cholla cactus, inspiring views and our own wash that serves as a trail through the property. We are conveniently located in the Yucca Mesa area of Yucca Valley, just 19 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park, Pappy & Harriet's and Pioneer Town.
We are semi-secluded with virtually no light or sound pollution, but restaurants and shopping are just minutes away. Outside you will find park like views, perfectly quiet stargazing and abundant desert wildlife. Inside is a newly renovated artist’s ranch with cozy comfort and a creative vibe. We provide coffee, tea, cuisine basics, a fully equipped kitchen, a spa-worthy master bath with ultra high end whirlpool tub, laundry supplies, star-filled night skies, a stellar sunrise & sunset, and much more. Come see for yourself.
THE SPACE
Rancho Moco is fully permitted by San Bernardino County for use as a Short Term Vacation Rental - CESTRP-2021-02760. Our goal is to enhance and support this beautiful desert community while providing a high-end, affordable space to discover the beauty of the high desert.
For those of you who speak Spanish, Rancho Moco was named after Melonie’s father, who had a unique sense of humor and insisted his grandchildren call him Moco. This home is an homage to him.
Our 5-acre property has vast, open views from the front and back door, of snow-capped mountains and dozens of mature Joshua Trees. Enjoy the family of desert quail that live in the olive trees at the entrance, the jack rabbits bounding through chaparral and cacti blooming in vibrant color.
Whether to celebrate an anniversary, seek a meditative getaway or establish a home base for some rigorous hiking, Rancho Moco is a peaceful desert enclave that restores your spirit.
Our newly remodeled home (in 2020) is decorated with original art and steampunk lamps and furniture we built ourselves. You can enjoy the 1932 Philco radio playing clips from the Amazon fun book “The Very First” – anecdotes and origin stories narrated by Moco himself.
The goal was to make this a perfect couple's retreat. After some research we opted for an indoor, private whirlpool hot tub (for 2) with a view. Not having one outside saves us maintenance expenses, which we pass on to you.
So, enjoy a bubble bath in our Jason Microsilk whirlpool tub while you identify the stars above. Take your morning coffee out on the back porch, with sweeping views of Mount San Gorgonio. Cool off under the outdoor shower after a long day of hiking. Or relax on the backyard patio by our cheminee – the original 1957 cast iron stove that heated the ranch house when Rancho Moco was originally constructed – while counting shooting stars. Because if you’ve never experienced the clear desert skies at night, you are in for a life changing experience.
Our kitchen is stocked with all the tools you need to create your own gourmet meals – or go check out the best local restaurants, cafes and wine bars we recommend. Then curl up on our cozy and lush 8' couches to Netflix and chill. We supply 2 robes in the master suite, slippers (you can take with you), and the most comfortable beds available with high thread count bamboo sheets, and a selection of pillows.
Dawn will bring unlimited desert adventure in Joshua Tree National Park (entrance is minutes away). Explore nearby museums, hiking trails, and one of a kind restaurants, or treasure hunt at the multitude of vintage and artisan shops to be found within 20 minutes of our front door. Check out our guide for some of our favorite spots.
Rancho Moco is that private place where you can reflect and regenerate in comfort and quiet. We welcome your visit.

Be sure to check out our visitor's guide to get the most out of your trip, and don't miss the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum, a tribute to the Dada movement and an artist's vision of ephemeral art, designed to disappear in the desert wind some day. Just down Aberdeen Road a couple miles!
We take safety and privacy seriously. Rancho Moco has smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers and First Aid kits. Our camera-less security system detects motion, decibels, temperature, number of people, and humidity. We do not allow parties or pets, and always answer questions promptly. We welcome your visit.

We were traveling for a few days with Joshua Tree being our final stop. The house was easy to find even in the dark. We had some issues with the wi-fi but that was resolved within a hour. The owner is very kind and responsive.
The beds are comfortable, in fact everything is comfortable and welcoming. The spa tub was awesome! It is, by far, the most eclectic rental I have stayed in. We really enjoyed ourselves. I just wish we would have stayed longer and make use of the back yard.
My only surprise was that neighbors were closer than I expected. With the Christmas lights, the star gazing wasn’t perfect but it was secluded enough to be quiet snd we saw a few bunnies and squirrels.
A word of advice, download the house instructions before you go. There is little to no cell service at the property (or in the desert as we found out when leaving Pioneertown!).
Be sure to visit Garth’s Boulder Gardens. It is a must see and the kids will love it too.

This place is even better than photos can capture. The house is spacious and very clean and the windows offer breathtaking views on all sides. It was cold while we were there (late Feb) but we enjoyed sunrises and sunsets from the comfort of the house - and brief spells for photos. We were also treated to some excellent animal sightings - a coyote trotted by, black throated sparrows busy in the backyard, quail bobbling (Mountain or California, not sure) and a Great Horned Owl perched out back each night after sunset. Spectacular.

We had a wonderful stay at Rancho Moco. The scenery is just beautiful…with a view of the mountains, Joshua trees, cactus, and more from the back patio. The home was well furnished with all you need for a very comfortable stay. The drive to Joshua Tree National Park West Entrance was an easy 20 minutes. Communication with the property owners was excellent; they were very responsive. Highly recommend staying here.
