Beautiful spacious and inviting classic house! Our hostess was outstanding, very friendly and accommodating.
The room we stayed in was “The Preacher” and it was outstanding. Very large, comfortable with an incredible bed and a 7 foot claw foot soaking tub. Breakfast was delicious! Belgian waffles with fresh fruit, juice and coffee.

This was a special occasion anniversary trip. While the house is lovely and the hostess is very personable, the Breakfast part of the Bed and Breakfast was very disappointing. The Hotels.com ad talks about the amazing breakfast but fails to mention it is only available Saturday and Sunday. What was provided to us Thursday morning rivals Super 8. We even had to bring bottles of water down from the room for the Keurig.
Had we known that there was no real breakfast, we would have booked somewhere else.

This was a great stay! Lovely property! The owner was extremely accommodating and beyond friendly! Beautiful room and house. And excellent breakfasts! Highly recommended!

The best thing about Carr Mansion is the hostess. She is charming and accommodating. The house needs a deep cleaning and painting in some places though. The carriage house and backyard are not appealing, so stick to the main house. The breakfast was simple but good.

Had a fantastic stay! Will definitely make this a regular visit. The breakfast was phenomenal and the conversation and comraderie we built with Joey was more than we could have imagined.

The Carr Mansion is a beautiful bed and breakfast but the security of the home is not the best. We walked right in mid afternoon (because of a baby shower event) and continued directly to the room without any assistance. We expected an adult-only, quiet, romantic vibe and walked into chaos. Despite that, the room was beautiful and I really enjoyed it.

We had a great time with the true history that lives there

Was a bit disappointed. The room didn’t look like the pictures.

Loved the staff and facilities. Super cute.

Overall, the interior was dated, but the bedding was comfortable.

The lady that runs the property is very sweet, but the property has SEVERELY declined from the website photos. It’s a safe place to spend the night, but it’s days of CONDE NASTE and TEXAS MONTHLY features are long over.

Great Location and friendly service. There was a lack of shelf and drawer space for clothes and the water pressure in the shower was low.

I wanted to stay in this historic property because it was involved in the 1900 hurricane and the grade raising of Galveston Island following the terrible storm.

Check-in is at 3:00 and we arrived at 11:00 AM just hoping to go through the check-in process but we were able to pay for the room, drop our bags off and get the key so this saved us a lot of time. The host is great and provided an excellent breakfast and service!

Amazing B&B. The hostess has thought of every tiny detail. Gorgeous old home with tons of character, friendly and thoughtful hostess, central location… the positives go on and on.

The house is from the late 1800s so you're staying in a piece of history. Loved that. Breakfast was delicious. We stayed in the Honeymoon room, which has a king size bed. It was roomy and quaint. The bed is super high but they provide steps to climb on (I'm short so I did use them!) AC works great. Noise from outside might be an issue for very light sleepers. There was an alarm clock on the nightstand that went off in the middle of the night. I should have mentioned it to the hostess but failed to do so. That should be removed (cell phone apps render it completely unnecessary).

Our stay at Carr Mansion was such a great getaway for my husband and I. The property was lovely and unique, our room comfortable and with plenty of space to relax. The owner was attentive and personable, and the breakfast she served was fantastic. We would definitely stay here again!

Greeted promptly, host was super friendly and recommended a great spot for breakfast (thanks, sunflower bakery was EXCELLENT). It is a very cool old house but definitely in need of maintenance which the owner is working on. The room was comfortable even if not exactly as pictured. We enjoyed the standalone tub and there was plenty of hot water. The day we chose to stay there wasnt breakfast provided (maybe more of a weekend thing?) But the host had tons of snacks and a very well stocked tea and coffee bar. We did like how quiet it was there and appreciated it being a 21+ property. Not walking distance to the main attractions on the island but a straight shot driving wise getting around. Overall we enjoyed our night there.

Was only able to stay one night as the condition of the hotel was terrible. There was mold in the bathtub along with stains all over the bathtub. Whole bedroom was dirty with old furniture. Walls had cracks and paint was falling off.The only good thing about that bed and breakfast was the host who was exceptional with great customer service. This is by far the worst place we've stayed on. We only statyed because we got there super late and were really tired because of a long drive there. We left first thing in the morning.

It is always nice to stay in an 'old" house. I adore antique architecture. It was easy walking to and from the location. The staff was helpful and gave me material to support the reason I was traveling. I loved the bed! High, great night sleep, the blanket was snugly!
I think that the rooms are a bit overpriced. The decorations are functional but did not have the attention/cuteness factor that I am used to in a place like this. Everything I walked to was down from the house...I wish it was just a bit closer to the events I wanted to see.
I would still consider stay at this location again - but in a different room. One more suited to my taste.

Unfortunately the room we reserved was given to another couple so of course my girlfriend was disappointed since it’s not a motel 6 where all the rooms are the same…she searched for 2 days until she found The Honeymoon suite and she loved it but of course it was given to another couple. We were assigned The Preacher which was the opposite of what she was looking for. It was nice though…just very underwhelming after I realized I spent $303 on one night for a room we didn’t reserve.

One of the most memorable properties I've every stayed at! Each room is unique and has its own charm. The caretakers are super friendly and helped resettle me after I booking mistake I made. I'm looking forward to my next visit soon!

Such a beautiful house! We had a great stay at the house in the Grocer's Room. We were greeted upon check in with a beverage and they had alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available to us.
It was a nice walk to the shore. Breakfast was amazing.

The entire experience was terrific. From the moment we entered and met Joeln, the onsite manager/owner we received nothing but the best care and hospitality possible. The property layout is charming and allows for large guest rooms and also privacy. The public rooms are wonderful. The property is well maintained and immaculately clean, thanks to the watchful eye of Joeln.
Really can't recommend this place highly enough.

Carr Mansion was full of character. Service was amazing. The owner welcomes us with drinks and snacks. She also gave us a tour of the mansion. We stayed in “The Merchant”. The room was extravagant. Though, the water room was a bit tight and no drawers to place our clothes in. A small night stand or table to place our toiletries would be helpful. Wash basin would be a cute add on to the aesthetic. Since it is a bed and breakfast, we expected home cooked meal but everything was microwaveable. Since they’ve only been open for 3 years, they have a lot of improvement that can make Carr Mansion be more attractive. But Overall, we love Carr Mansion.

When we arrived for our anniversary stay, we were informed that the room I'd booked was not available. The a/c had given out, the owner (Joelynn) had tried to have it fixed, the repair person had not fixed it. The owner had a portable a/c unit in the room and it seemed to be doing the trick. However, my wife liked the other room (The Grocer) better because it had more light.
I was happy that the owner did what she could to accommodate us. We loved The Grocer because of the light and a private balcony.
Breakfast was very good and filling and she offered mimosas!
When we expressed interest in the building, she sat down with us and told us all about the history.
Overall, I couldn't have been happier to stay in such a nice place for our first wedding anniversary.

My stay at the Carr Mansion was amazing. I stayed in the Preachers room. It was extremely clean. Bed sheets and towels were soft and smelled so nice! Location was great peaceful and quiet perfect for a relaxing time. Breakfast was not “Buffet style” she served homemade Belgian Waffles with fruit and Sausages. Super delicious! TV in my room was glitching a lot at first then it stopped not sure why. Other that service was Phenomenal!
Thank you Joellyn for everything we will definitely come back!
I recommend this Bed & Breakfast 100%.

The house was immaculately clean and the breakfast was well done. However, the air conditioning was not working properly and the room was hot, there was a tiny sink in the bathroom with no room to put things. There were very sheer curtains which did not permit the room to get dark at night because of lights on outside. This was not what we expected fir a $540 overnight stay.

The Carr Mansion is beautiful and the hospitality was outstanding. The Owner/Hostess was really lovely and helpful. We stayed in the Carriage House and liked the privacy and separate entrance. Our Sunday Breakfast was delicious and the presentation really nice. We would love to go back when guests can mingle more freely in the common areas. The property was also impacted by the ice storm and hard freeze and lost lots of their beautiful tropical vegetation. They’re in the process of recovering from that as well...as everyone else is. We really did enjoy our stay and recommend the property for anyone wanting a peaceful getaway in Galveston.
4.0
I loved the authentic old school/ old world Galveston feel of the property. The house has been wonderfully maintained, and the rooms were comfortable and roomy. It was a nice quiet getaway that is near the strand, but not so near that you have to deal with a bunch of touresty people. The staff was wonderful and attentive. My only slight complaint was there weren't many options for the breakfast. All guests only had one option for the breakfast meal (unexciting french toast, sausage, cake, and fruit). My father doesn't eat pork, so he was limited to the small pieces of French toast. This left him a little hungry when we checked out. So much so, that we nearly stopped for a fast food breakfast before driving home. The breakfast just needed a little more to it like two scrambled eggs, and/or some oatmeal so that more options were available for guests and the breakfast stretched into lunch. This bed and breakfast's breakfast is not for those with dietary restrictions, food aversions, or a desire for a big savory breakfast. You are only given the one choice, and that is all. Other than that, the staff and rooms were wonderful, and I couldn't have asked for a better dinner recommendation (Gaidos) the night of our stay.
Years ago, I stayed at this B&B back when it was the mermaid and the dolphin, and it was nice then. So, when we stayed here once again, I was pleasantly surprised to see the wonderful updates that were made to the home.
