If you have to have internet and a TV just to survive this is not the place for you.
If, however, you want an idyllic bush retreat close to town with no distraction from e devices this is pure heaven.
We checked in, headed to town, bought a couple of steaks and a bottle of wine, and enjoyed our dinner on the porch. Having an almost brand new weber barbecue to cook on was a bonus. Comfortable bed, great sunset.

Brand new with a lot of thought put into furnishing this small space for two
Serene location with a wonderful view
The road to get there - steep and narrow didn’t worry us too much but some people might find it more than challenging

It was very comfortable and as advertised, a 'retreat'. Was a great place to unwind.
Even though it was clearly stated that the road in was very steep in places. It was also very narrow and first time in not knowing what to expect, it was a bit nerve racking.

Private, quiet getaway with great views over the harbour. Hosts kindly met my dietary needs for breakfast. Spotlessly clean. Super comfortable bed.
Too much furniture in the small hut and nowhere to put bags.

The view and walks were amazing. So peaceful and cozy. Exceptional hospitality. About 10 mins from Akaroa township. Absolutely recommend!
The drive there was a bit steep and dangerous but one you get used to it it’s all good!

we loved the sustainability of the facilities, particularly the toilet and we loved the food/breakfast/treats provided
also the isolation was amazing

I can’t think anything

Breakfast was adequate. Cereal and fruit fab. GF biscuits were supplied and good. Background to the property very interesting, passionate owners caring for the environment. All instructions succinct. View beautiful!
Some GF bread for toast would have been appreciated. Oat milk out of date and so had water on my cereal and no coffee.
Maybe screens on windows and doors would have created some natural air in the cabin

The road was something else. Experience drivers only!!!!

Totara hut is an idyllic b&b perfectly equipped and super comfortable👏
The view and the walk from both huts are astonishing.
Above a great stay, we shall never forget the unique hospitality offered by Ken. This gentleman demonstrated his big heart as we had some trouble with the car, he took care of us as a father and grandfather👏.

Great continental breakfast. Super clean and extremely comfortable bed and pillows. A beautiful view over the lake and surrounds.
The unmade part of the road leading to the property as it was quite steep in places.

First off these folks were wonderful host and were willing to work with me in difficult situations due to many delays and cancellations and that alone would take me back there again. It's a beautiful property and it was the best nights sleep I'd had in 5 months. I understand the price as it's a new build in a remote location but it did seem a little high only due to the fact that it was grill or microwave for food only (no hot plate) and no internet (which I love and hope they keep it this way) but it's a way from town and isolated and seems expensive for what it is. That being said it was exactly what I was looking for, solitude, so I was happy to pay the price especially after they worked with me so much on a lot of changing plans.
Price seemed a little steep.

We really enjoyed the private walkways. The views were also amazing.

Great to see the conservation effort. Great view. Away from everything. Cabin had everything needed and was very welcoming.
It's quite small, so possibly a bit overpriced for that.

Excellent place to visit, clean, comfortable and well looked after with everything provided. Great views, walls and information provided about the area.
Nothing, would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.

Wonderful location high above the township of Akaroa but still with easy access to go for dinner. Perfect getaway stay. A wonderful walk that includes a super cute waterfall.
The cabin is modern with a great bed looking out over the view. Would highly recommend this to anyone want a private retreat.

The quality of the hut , the view of the bay. No expense has been spared to make you comfortable
The lumber yard in the foreground.
The absence of any coat hooks to hang your coats. A 2 person hut does not need 7 seats. It just clutters a small area, as do the multiple pillows on the bed.

fantastic spot for a quiet relaxed weekend - with local on site walks and lovely views. Breakfast food and treats were yummy. Used the BBQ a couple of times which was a great addition. Bed was great.
nothing negative.

Private and nestled into a rural setting a stone's throw from central Akaroa with amazing views over the bay. Easy contactless access. Very clean and tidy, modern, and eco-friendly with everything you need for a short stay. Breakfast was supplied which was more than enough and we loved the little treat basket. Happy to stay again.

Great instructions on how to get there. We enjoyed everything, a warm cosy cabin, beautiful scenery, fun walks, the waterfall was so pretty, the owners were lovely. It is like a little piece of heaven tucked away in nature with the most beautiful view and perfect when you want to get away for a couples weekend. The facilities were amazing and unlike many places we have stayed the bed was very comfortable. Honestly 10/10 we will definitely be going back.
