Such a clean space, really friendly staff and had plenty of privacy in my bunk. Massive thank you to Paulo!

Gracias!!!

Very clean place, centrally located. You can get useful tips on exploring the island. Reception is not 24 hours but staff is available via instant messaging.

A very nice place, so clean and quiet! My bed was really comfortable. Friendly staff. Paulo helped to book a scooter (and a car for another guest). He also took his time to explain where is better to go etc. Really appreciated. Definitely will come back

The place is squeaky clean and very modern. My dorm room was spacious, had AC and each bed had a curtain for some privacy. The simple, neatly served breakfast was included in the price. The host was very helpful and the general atmosphere was very pleasant. Very good value for money!

When I booked I thought it was just another hostel, but for me was more than that, a cozy, family-like atmosphere. Paulo and his wife Ana made me feel like home. They take care of their guest like they are family, travelling alone I felt so safe there!! Such a happy vibe they bring, and Janette, she brings the rainbow every day! :)

Paulo manager is the best person you can meet, he will organize your stay at maximum possible, provides all necessary information, make the stay comfortable and unforgettable, book and find the places to eat, book the car rent

The owner and personnel are absolutely amazing. They are positive, supportive, they make the stay very nice. Additionally, the hostel is clean, organize, and super comfy. Enjoyed my stay!
The location is a bit further from the center of Ponto Delgada, and there are only indoor relaxing areas, meaning you only meet others during breakfast.

Paulo, his wife, and staff are such amazing hosts! The hostel is in a great location close to transit, laundry facilities, cafes, and restaurants. The hostel is clean, secure, and the beds are extremely comfy. Breakfast is an added bonus.
I visited São Miguel without a car and Paulo helped me map out my itinerary, gave me tons of pointers, and arranged a scooter for me for one day to visit places I had missed. He knows the island and wants to ensure all guests make the most of their time. He really goes above and beyond as a host!
100% recommend this hostel or any of Paulo’s properties!

The staff and the accomodation in general

The best hostel I have stayed in! The beds were incredibly comfortable and clean. You get a large locker and shelf to store your things. The big bathroom with 3 showers and 3 toilets was perfect and wasn’t shared between too many people, which meant you never had to wait for someone else to finish up before showering. The breakfast, though simple, was a great addition with fresh bread every day. The best thing about this hostel was the staff. Paulo and Janete made me feel so welcome from the second I arrived. Any problems or questions about the Island, Paulo was there to help and would even help you plan your itinerary for the day if you had nothing in mind. Fantastic stay and would love to stay again.

Ignore my last review, I thought I was leaving it for a different hostel! Staying at Passal was a wonderful experience - Paulo and Janete were both so lovely and helpful and welcoming. I stayed here the first and last nights of my trip to Sao Miguel and when I returned it felt like I was being welcomed home. Quiet, private, good breakfast, super helpful in getting to/from the airport, lots of recommendations for seeing the island. When I met up with friends I kept saying “Paulo recommended we do this” and it never disappointed!

Very welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. The owner is especially helpful and personable. Rooms were exceptionally clean, and the breakfast included was perfect. The hostel was quiet at night, which led to a good night rest. The place is very close to restaurants in Ponta Delgada.

The property was clean and good organized. Also, everything was provided and available except for a stove. But there was a microwave, a place where to cut things and everything else. There was no curfew and everyone has a card for the entrance door, the room door and their own locker. The position was perfects, right next to the city center and to the university. The host, Paulo, was really nice and kind: he picked me up from the airport and took me again there the day after to pick up the bags the airplane company didn’t send with me. He let me put a bag I wasn’t supposed to use into a safe space and he let me stay in the hostel after the check out until my other house was ready.

Such a cute little hostel! The room was comfortable with enough storage space and the bathroom was always super clean.
Paulo was a GREAT host, with lots of knowledge and willingness to help with everything to make the best out of your time on the island.

I really enjoyed my stay! I came during the low season and there weren't many people staying there, but Paulo (the owner) managed to connect me with other guests so I wasn't completely alone. He helped plan a daily itinerary of what to see each day and helped me acquire a rental car and SIM card. Lastly he arranged airport pickup. Throughout the entire stay, Paulo was very communicative, helpful and friendly. He and the other guests I met really made my stay enjoyable. The hostel itself was very clean and everything was well organized. I would def recommend this hostel and a visit to the Azores/Sao Miguel Island!
The breakfast was simple i.e. fruit, toast, cereal, ham and cheese, and bread. Perhaps in the future there could be more offerings, otherwise it was sufficient.

Everything about staying was great! You can walk around the entire town in a day. So many beautiful people and history to be told. Very relaxing, quiet for working, sleeping, you name it. It's possible to live here in this hostel, because it feels like home. Super safe area, well secure building, well kept condition of building, clean in every corner.
Bathroom.......lots of it and clean.

Very. nice hostel and friendly staff. A good and central location in Ponta Delgada.
Too bad this hostel didn't have a kitchen.
Also parking was a bit of a drama at this location.

I appreciated that the bed had curtains, so the roommates don't necessarily wake up if one gets up early / the sun shines into the room early in the morning.
Paulo is a very helpful host who gave me a bunch of good recommendations - thank you!
I enjoyed my stay at Passal Hostel, yet the breakfast was the one thing that disturbed me.
Although I appreciated the fact that there was no buffet (which usually leads to great food waste), the food itself still leaves a lot of room for improvement. I was a little disappointed to see that we were only served white toast bread, which is not nutricious at all; the jam was served in single portions, which creates a lot of waste. The juices that went with breakfast were obviously full of sugar. Fruit would have been welcome.
In my opinion it is very important to serve a nutricious breakfast, especially in a destination where the main daily activities for tourists comprise hiking/biking/touring the surroundings, and therefore one needs to have eaten enough before.
I was also disappointed to see that, after I'd paid to rent a towel, it was removed from my bed the day after and I almost had to pay for a second one (I managed to get one for free, since the first towel had been removed by mistake).
The matress was a bit too soft for me.

The host was very friendly and helped us getting some rental scooters when the original rental shop couldnt deliver. and even cheaper than the original rental.
