We offer our cozy home to all guest and hope you all enjoy the stay and see what MC has to offer . Here a Top 15 things to do in Michigan city :
1. Washington Park : This beautiful park has a marina, beach, zoo, and a Civil War memorial. I have included pictures of the beach, which is one of the best remaining in this area (along with that at Indiana Dunes State Park). There is a daily fee for entering Washington Park and a fee for parking.
2. Lighthouse and pier: The lighthouse at the end of the pier is called: the Michigan City East Light.
Lantern, lens and light was moved here from the previous location (the Old Michigan City Light - today called The Old Lighthouse Museum)

Best place in Michigan City, IN. Very romantic and peaceful (especially during off season when parking at the lake is almost empty and free!). I love to watch sunsets here. The beach is also beautiful (which is directly connected with Long Beach).
Built in 1904, the lighthouse is the only public operating lighthouse in Indiana. You can access it by elevated walkway called "catwalk" (extended pier). It was electrified in 1933. This catwalk was almost demolished but thanks to local citizens saved for the future.
The lighthouse is open as a museum every day except Mondays from 1 to 4 p.m - The pier & lighthouse looks spectacular all year around, although during winter season is covered often with thick ice and large icicles so it can be very slippery and even dangerous.
3. Shady Creek winery: Shady Creek Winery and a vineyard and winery here in Michigan City , IN, since 2009. produce over 28 different wines, including sweet, sparkling, dry white, and dry red wines. Our goal is to combine first-class wine and food in the heart of the Midwest to introduce or further enhance a love of wine to our guests.
4. Friendship botanic Gardens : These historic gardens are inspired by the 1933 Century of Progress Fair in Chicago and cover land traced with trails used for hundreds of years by Native Americans. The grounds include 105 acres of trails through the woods and open spaces with gardens, a meadow, and Lake Lucerne. The Gardens are open Tuesday-Sunday 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. from May through the last weekend of October, and weekends in April and November from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.. Thursdays are discount admission days for $5/person. Admission is $9 for ages 13 and over. Children 12 and under are free. Memberships are available for individuals or families. Friendship Botanic Gardens are accessed by walking earthen trails, sprawling, grassy meadows, and paved paths.
5. Barker mansion: Finally visited this historic building. It's absolutely beautiful and the staff was so friendly and helpful. TJ gave a fact-filled and interesting tour with knowledge and enthusiasm. The mansion also hosts a Halloween Tours by candlelight and events like History on Tap (with beer!). It's also somewhere to have a wedding or shower and the outdoor garden area is serene and very big. Don't miss Barker Mansion if you're in the area.
6. Michigan city beach: beach is not as crowded as Chicago’s beach and you can easily enjoy your time without the major crowds . Time to relax
7. Michigan city zoo: Washington Park Zoo is a small but beautiful zoological park. Much of the property is woodland, with lovely little paths wandering up and down the hillside between exhibits. The animals appeared comfortable and in good condition, the exhibits appropriately sized, and appropriate animal enrichment opportunities (evidence of good care,

My sister and I stayed for 2 nights and this was perfect for what we needed. It smelled like animals and the floor/rugs could’ve been cleaner but had no problems with checkin or checkout or the neighborhood. Everything worked and we had all the supplies we needed. I appreciated that we didn’t have to clean or start laundry or anything before we left.

We spent most of the time doing things outdoors, about 5-10min drive to most things. Was a nice little clean unit for two of us to sleep at night before going out again, reasonably priced. The owners were helpful and responded to our questions quickly.

Our stay was great. The Vrbo came stocked with basic necessities. The decor was super cute. Plenty of parking space. We didn’t use the yard but there was a fire pit. The place was stocked with wine glasses and a beverage fridge. Just what was needed for our girls trip. We did not use the stove but all appliances appeared new and worked well. We did walk to Barker Pub (about 3 blocks away) and returned after dark. We never felt unsafe. Location is close to the beach, only a short drive. We did reach out to the owners a few times and responses were quick and helpful. Definitely recommend if you are planning a trip to the area. The Washington Park beach was clean and the water was clear (although chilly). We went to New Buffalo beach once during our stay and it didn’t compare to Washington park beach. We also shopped in both Michigan City and New Buffalo. The outlet mall is maybe 4 minutes from this place. Be sure to stop at Bubbles Ice Cream shop, Barker Pub and the Stray Dog for good food!!
