LOCATION
We love Smallwood - a friendly and quiet lake community with many cute little log cabins from the 1930s and 40s. We have a lake, waterfall, forest reserve with hiking trails, post office, and restaurant (open seasonally) within walking distance from the cabin. To walk around the lake takes about 40 minutes.
This area of the Catskills offers every outdoor activity imaginable including swimming, hiking, canoeing, boating, tubing, rafting, fishing, cycling, ziplining, horseback riding, bird watching, apple picking, snowtubing, skiing and snowboarding.
The cabin is only a short drive from Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the Museum at Bethel Woods, the original Woodstock site, buzzy design haven Livingston Manor, Resorts World Catskills, Holiday Mountain (skiing/tubing and 'fun park' with rock climbing, go carts, etc), Legoland, Lake Superior State Park, the Catskills Craft Beverage Trail, great restaurants, cute shops and antique stores, harvest festivals, holiday markets, farms (kids usually love the alpacas!), farmers markets, New York State's largest indoor waterpark Kartrite, Forestburgh Playhouse, Kadampa Meditation Center New York, Monticello Casino and Raceway, Monticello Motor Club Off-Road Adventure, as well as picturesque Delaware River towns Narrowsburg, and Callicoon.
You can check in and out by yourself with our keyless entry. You will be issued an access code for the duration of your stay - no keys to lose or return!
The easiest way to reach the Treehouse Bungalow is by car, but it is possible to go via public transit from the NYC area as well. Take the Short Line Bus from Port Authority in Manhattan to Monticello's Short Line Terminal. From there, you'd have to take a taxi to the bungalow (under 15-minute drive).

This was not the experience I was looking for. We thought this was going to be a nice lakeside getaway - that wasn't the case. The listing makes it look like its on the water but that wasn't even the worst part. Upon arrival which was 15 mins after check in time, the cleaning crew was still there. We then return an hour later and the unit reeked of bleach which gave us a headache. On the second day of our stay, the power went out for 8 hours and then went out again at night and it was too cold to sleep. All the owner wanted to do was compensate $50 for all of these issues given was ridiculous given the amenities they listed werent able to be used for the entire day. Understand these things are out of their control but given how long the outage was for, the host should have been more reasonable with their compensation.

Had a lovely time here with my friend relaxing in the hot tub and listening to music.

The place was well-appointed and nice to hang out in and relax. The hot tub was very nice too! The kids (and us) really enjoyed the stand up paddle boards and just the quiet of the area around the lake, which was a short drive from the house. There was some water pressure issues while we were there but Melinda and Christopher were very responsive.
I would stay here again for sure and maybe take up a concert next time.

It was very comfortable, beds were great. Lovely decor. The kids really enjoyed the paddle boards. We made the s'more in the fire pit. The beach was really nice! Everything was there. Coffee maker coffee, pots and pans etc. Very clean. I loved the beautiful woven throws.

Thanks for a lovely stay in your cabin. It was very comfortable for my daughter and I with a bedroom each. We particularly enjoyed using the spa in the evenings and watching the fireflies. The personal touches created a lovely home atmosphere, the kitchen was a delight to cook in with quality appliances and cooking necessities. The thorough instructions were very helpful.

Lovely cottage exactly how described in the description. Check in and check out - super simple. Cozy sheets and linens, beautiful decor and all of the extra goodies you may need (even a flat iron!)!
Highly recommend this incredible home. We will be back!

House was super cute, clean, and well equipped. Had a great time visiting Forestburgh Playhouse, General Store, lake, and state park hiking trails to waterfalls. Only downside was roads/trails not amiable to biking (unless you have an e-bike!). Use caution when driving with steep hills and lots of deer.

Our family spent a week at this property in June. The house itself was clean, very comfortable, and had everything we needed. Also, there was plenty to do: We made s’mores using the fire pit, took hikes (including one to a waterfall), took a day trip to Legoland, did a Spartan race at the original site of Woodstock in Bethel Woods, and ate a delicious meal with great drinks on the lake at the Local Tap and Table.

The property was well maintained and stocked with everything we needed to do some barbecue, laundry, and jacuzzi. Overall it was a positive experience and we didn’t run into any issues and we would definitely recommend staying here.
