About this house rental
Step back in time as you sweep into the Sussex Country Town of Lewes where cobbled streets, beamed 15th Century houses and Lewes Castle greet you on the High Street. This charming three-bedroom townhouse sits centrally within the town, yet it is peacefully tucked away from the hubbub. It sleeps six people comfortably in two double rooms and a bunk room, ideal for families or friends, creating a homely yet luxurious space to stay during your time here.
The very name ‘Lewes’ is synonymous with its annual Bonfire Night which is the largest November 5th event in the world. Carnival comes to town with pagan processions, traditions, costumes, fire sites and fireworks which attract people from far and wide – it’s quite the spectacle. You will need to book early for this event though to avoid disappointment!
November festivities aside, there is plenty to entertain you in Lewes with art galleries, antique emporiums, museums and many cafes, local pubs and boutique shops, all serving and selling artisan produce made with love by local businesses and residents.
Take a walk through the cobbled streets and sample some fine craft ales on a brewery tour. Stroll along the river with the swans or seek out Downland public foot paths, drinking in the views over Sussex for miles around (and stopping off at one of the many pubs en route). The world-famous Glyndebourne Opera House is just 10-minutes by car, showing some of the most incredible operatic performances (complete with subtitles) to be enjoyed on picnic blankets with a glass of bubbles from a hamper – utter bliss!
From the Lewes Castle to Lewes Priory, there are numerous historic sights to explore, so it is easy to fill a weekend or a fortnight here.
The castle, Harvey’s Brewery and Lewes Station are within easy walking distance and there is a plethora of pubs, boutique shops and cool cafes to be enjoyed on your doorstep too. Lewes has a unique energy and it is bursting character due to its rich local history. It offers a hugely attractive landscape too with a backdrop of undulating hills and a glorious river flowing through its centre, plus there is a vibrant art and antiques scene which are well worth exploring.
This property provides the perfect base to enjoy it all – and it comes with on-site parking too…perfect!
Beautifully presented, this townhouse is immaculate and ready to host up to six people in three glorious bedrooms (two double beds and single bunkbeds). It sits perched into one of Lewes’ famous hills, giving it open views to the rear and an entrance on both sides. There is parking for one large car on a hardstanding to the rear or you can park very reasonably on the Abinger Place using the pay-as-you-go machines.
Stepping inside, it feels immediately warm and welcoming – a real home from home. It is far more spacious than its modest façade would imply, with a sun-filled, dual aspect living room and kitchen to greet you as you enter.
For relaxation and dining, the living room is spacious with warm wood flooring and sumptuous sofas so you can kick back and relax in front of the Smart HD flat screen to enjoy a show on Netflix, listen to music or browse the net for ‘what’s on in Lewes?’, using the super-fast complimentary WiFi. There is a dining table and chairs alongside the kitchen, so while you will be tempted to eat out during your stay, we have provided everything you need to cook a tasty meal right here.
The kitchen is streamlined with modern-country cabinetry which include an integrated fridge freezer, fan oven, dishwasher and gas hob - so there are plenty of options. There is also a good range of cutlery, cooking utensils, glassware and crockery, plus tea, coffee and milk will also be provided. Should you need anything in particular, please ask and we will make every effort to accommodate.
Stepping down to the lower ground floor, the principal bedroom suite spans the entire floor leading out to a sweet patio area and the parking bay. Inside, the bedroom is a beautiful double room with a king-size bed and a luxury hybrid mattress to ensure a truly restful night’s sleep while fine quality bed linens, throws and artworks add individual style to the room. A deep walk-in wardrobe has space for hanging clothes, sorting shoes and hiding your suitcases away, and the en suite shower room is perfectly spacious with a monochrome scheme to complement the room.
Up on the first floor you’ll find two further bedrooms; both with soft carpet underfoot, alongside tasteful decoration, fine quality linens and soothing lighting. There is a second bathroom on this level – ideal in any shared space. Toiletries and fresh fluffy towels are provided, as are a hairdryer, an iron and an ironing board, plus a washing machine is available if needed.
