About this cottage rental
THE PROPERTY:
A large one-bed annexe cottage, half a mile from the centre of Ditchling village and close to Ditchling Beacon in the South Downs. Beacon Cottage is listed here by Inspire Stays dot com, the leading independent Sussex holiday company. Visit us direct for full info about this home.
Opening into the main living main area, there is a big corner sofa to one side, a Smart TV and a dining area next to the well-equipped separate kitchen. To the far side of the sitting room is the bathroom with large shower. Upstairs is a spacious bedroom with king size (5’) bed, desk and selection of books. Velux windows offer fantastic views of Ditchling Beacon and the South Downs.
Outside, there is a front patio with table and chairs. To the rear opens onto the owners’ large garden, where a lawned area outside the cottage is reserved for your use. The cottage is tucked to the side of the owners’ own home but has its own private entrance, and it offers a secure gated parking through which you are welcome to come and go as you wish.
LOCAL AREA:
Ditchling is a traditional, pretty village that dates back over 1000 years and offers Tudor buildings, two pubs, small shops and tea rooms including the lovely Nutmeg Tree. It has a local shop and farm shop, and large supermarkets are available in Burgess Hill and Brighton. Brighton is 8 miles south and Lewes is 8 miles east. The local railway station is in Hassocks 2 miles away. The cottage offers great walks from the door.

- A security deposit of GBP150 is a condition of booking, if not taken by this platform we will contact you after booking to arrange.
- Once you have placed your booking request, before we can process your booking we will require some simple additional details such as postal address, guest names and direct email. Please do not book if you are unable to provide this information, as we cannot offer a refund on this basis.
- Arrival and departure times are clearly stated. As our properties can be booked right up until the last minute, we are unable to confirm early check-in or late check-out requests until 24-72 hours prior to your arrival/departure. Should you prefer to guarantee any such request now, please add an additional night to the start and/or end of your booking.
- Pets: Not allowed.
- Accessibility: one low step (3cm) over the front door threshold. Shower enclosure has a 10cm step. Winder staircase (with bannister and standard height risers) to the first floor, opening directly into the room at the top. One step (15cm) down from rear door into the garden, with 3 steps (10cm) up to the lawn area. Other internal floors are even and level, with no internal steps. This is intended as a guide only and accuracy is not guaranteed, please contact us if you need more info. Measurements are approx.
- Kitchen facilities: single electric fan oven, 4 ring electric hob, tall fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle, toaster, cafetière.
- Iron, ironing board, clothes airer, hairdryer provided. Charcoal BBQ on request.
- There is an unfenced pond in the rear garden, please keep children supervised at all times.
- The owners live in the main house annexed to the cottage, who are available on the phone (or occasionally in person) should you need anything. There is no access between the two properties during your stay. Beacon Cottage has its own private entrance and will be exclusively yours.
- CCTV covers the outside areas for security purposes. There is no CCTV inside the property itself.
- One infant up to age 2 is welcome in addition to the total guest capacity of this property. Please bring your own travel cot, bedding and highchair etc.
- Free secure gated parking on the driveway in front of the property, with space for 2 cars.

A beautiful place to stay in. The cottage had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. It was immaculate and stylish. The view up to Beacon Hill was amazing and the surrounding countryside reminded you of how England should look. The hosts Eileen & Chris were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely stay there again. Ditchling is fascinating with period houses it’s steeped in history. A tip you must have an afternoon tea at the Nutmeg Tree tea room.

Try as I might, I cannot think of anything negative to say about Beacon Cottage, it being it pretty much perfect in every way. The location is lovely, the cottage itself was beautifully equipped and presented, with every facility.
The icing on the cake for us were the hosts who were charming, generous, informative and always available to answer questions or resolve issues - not that there were any.
All in all, an ideal holiday property to which we shall be returning given the opportunity.

We were met by the friendly and welcoming owners who showed us around the cottage which is attached to their house.
The cottage is well equipped and most comfortable. We had full access to the large garden which is the owners passion.
The location is a 20 min walk between the Ditchling Beacon and the Ditchling village and surrounded by good footpaths. Brighton is only a short drive away as is the train station at Hassocks.
All in all making this cottage very well located, very comfortable - particularly the large double bed - and run by delightful friendly owners respectful of our privacy.
