Make yourself at home at this unique turn-of-the-century craftsman house, where hygge and serenity set the scene for endless memories! This quaint home away from home enjoys a fantastic location three blocks away from a grocery store with locally grown produce, coffee shop, sushi restaurant, pizza joint, wine shop, butcher and fish shop, tennis courts, public pool, running track, playground, and the Berkeley Horticultural Nursery. You are also within a half mile of the North Berkeley BART Station, the beautiful North Berkeley Branch Library, and the famed Gourmet Ghetto, home of Alice Waters' award-winning restaurant, Chez Panisse. A fun fact about this neighborhood is that David Lance Goines lived at the end of the block - he was the Berkeley printmaker whose art nouveau style influenced the style and culture of the Bay Area and beyond during the late 60s and 70s and still defines the look of the city of Berkeley in many ways. There are a few of his prints up around the house in his honor.
As you enter, you will discover a welcoming living room with a large smart TV with streaming services, numerous toys for young children, three dozen board games for players of all ages, beautiful plants, a record player with dozens of records, and a lively fish tank that adds a unique touch to the space. Whip up delicious culinary masterpieces in the well-equipped kitchen and enjoy your meals on the back patio or sun deck. Upstairs there are four rooms: three bedrooms, one of which can alternately be set up as an office with a couch and motorized, adjustable standing desk, and another bonus sunroom/office with a large desk and cozy reading nook. Additional perks include a stacked washer/dryer, InstantPot, air fryer, a dozen Luminara flameless candles (for the hygge!), kids dishware, high chair, swingset, sandbox with sand toys, and a Pack N' Play.

From the moment we stepped behind the gate we felt we were in an oasis. The homeowner greeted us in the beautiful garden filled with morning glories, bougainvillea, jasmine, and succulents. We spent every moment we could enjoying the serenity that the garden provided, it was perfect for dining outside when our son visited in the evenings. We immediately felt at home and enjoyed the way the owner decorated. We really appreciated the welcome basket, a large selection of teas and lovely bath products. The beds, including the futon bed with thick foam pad, were very comfortable. The home is in a very quiet neighborhood, perfect for conducting zoom meetings, and we heard nothing outside even with the windows open at night. The location is very convenient for shopping at Monterey Market, the bakery, cheese, fish, and butcher shops, as well as the BART, Tilden Regional Golf Course at the top of Grizzly Peak, UCB, and highways to Armstrong State Redwood Forest, and to the wineries of Livermore, Sonoma, Dry Creek, Russian River and Napa. When we returned at night, we were able to park in front of the home. The homeowner addressed any questions we had in a very timely manner. We will always think fondly of our nearly 3 weeks in this beautiful family home.

We rented this lovely home while our son attended a camp at UC Berkeley. It was well equipped with two desks and wifi for working professionals. We loved the walking distance to restaurants. The host was wonderful!

The location, check in instructions, parking facility was absolutely amazing. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything that you might need during your stay. The only downside, and this could be subjective, was that our group of 4 felt that the maximalist vibe of the place led to a lot of clutter with small objects spread all over the house leaving little surface area for you to put anything you need. The second bedroom (with bunk bed) has a super tiny bed which isn’t super comfortable for two people. The bathroom is advertised as 1.5 but the second bathroom doesn’t even have a sink to wash one’s hands. The bathroom itself is also extremely small - the sink is the size of an airplane bathroom sink. We were okay with our stay because we were only there for a couple nights so didn’t need to bring much or need space to settle. However, it would be a problem for a party of 4 planning to stay for longer.

Would stay again. Great for families (we had an infant and 3 year old with us). House is very well equipped with thoughtful and stylish details. Lots of great things for kids - bunk beds, pack and play, toys, kid books, swing set, etc. Location is excellent, right next to King School playground, Mr Mopps toy store, Monterrey Market, etc. fully equipped kitchen and laundry made life easy.

This was just the perfect spot for our weekend in Berkeley. The house is adorable, nice design touches and very efficiently set up. It was perfect for our toddlers: pack and play, amazing selection of toys and books (including a sweet little yard with lots of stuff for outdoor play!), plastic dinnerware, etc. The host was super friendly and helpful. Location was great, we could walk to a playground and a bakery. We never had a problem with street parking, although the house doesn't have dedicated parking like the listing seems to imply. We are likely to be back and have already recommended to friends in the area as a great spot for visitors!

This is a wonderful house with an incredibly well-stocked kitchen and bathroom, and lots of games and musical instruments for kids and adults alike. It's very cozy, comfortable, and really feels like home!

We really enjoyed our stay! Definitely not the usual generic rental like we had last year for our annual Xmas visit. We loved the little touches that made us feel welcome and at home--the plentiful LED candles, the high-quality olive oil, the butter in the fridge, the extra chairs ready in the closet. The porch and yard are very sweet. Wonderful supplies in the kitchen and bathroom. Great neighborhood just two blocks from Monterey Market and an easy walk up to Shattuck. Make sure you watch the video before trying to operate the dishwasher, and tall people be warned that the shower is great but will require a little stooping.

There is so much to love about the Hygge House. The space is comfortable, clean, inviting, and well cared for. And if you are into design, there are some really great touches all throughout the house! Additionally the house came stocked with all the essentials one might need for a short or even longer stay. The location is perfect within walking distance to a cute grocery store, butcher shop, pizza, and even a wine shop. Transport wise there is plenty of parking, and you can even walk to the Bart station(public transit) easily. All in all the house was beautifully decorated and very organized. A very comfortable place to stay. I highly recommend it!
