About this apartment rental
Summary:
Alvarado Street is located on the East End of the quaint town of Dauphin Island, Alabama’s beautiful barrier island situated just off the renowned Gulf Coast. This newly renovated condominium offers the perfect lodging for families, fishermen and snowbirds looking to unwind and enjoy miles of white sandy beaches, fresh Gulf Coast seafood and world-class deep sea fishing and diving.
The Space:
In 2019, Alvarado underwent a complete renovation where the condo was stripped down to its bones and redesigned with stylish finishes and décor that echoed the natural elements of the island. The condo is now adorned with shiplap in every room, a main staple in seaside design, and is decorated with coastal-inspired furniture, art and accents in the living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. Each kitchen has stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and a fully stocked kitchen for guests looking to cook up their fresh catch of the day for dinner.
The two nautical bedrooms offer guests with a calm retreat to recharge at the end of a long day on the water. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed with coastal bedding and décor, and the bunk room has a bunk bed with a twin on the top, a full on the bottom, and a space-saving trundle that can be easily rolled away when not in use.
Alvarado offers vacationers partial views of Mobile Bay, and sits in the ideal location for people looking for convenient access to the East End. Out front, you can comfortably lounge on the expansive upper deck thanks to the large shade trees that offer a nice reprise from the afternoon sun, while outback you can catch a glimpse of the boats heading back in for the day with their catch in tow.
Guest Access:
The nearest public beach access is about a mile away. The ferry, a snack and ice cream shop with picnic tables overlooking the water, Ft Gaines and the DI Aquarium and Estuarium are all in walking distance. This unit is located on the bottom right of the condo building. Guests have access to a private patio area with an outdoor table and chairs. There is also a charcoal grill that guests can use to cook up their fresh catch. Parking is available directly in front of the condos.
The Neighborhood:
The 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary is less than a 10-minute walk (.3 miles) from the steps of Alvarado. The sanctuary is a well-known destination for birdwatchers in search of one of the hundreds of species that live in and migrate through the sanctuary year-round, such as herons and pelicans. Visitors can take a walking tour though the palmetto palms where they can experience the birds in the lush native flora and fauna of the island.
The Mobile Bay Ferry is located just around the corner from Alvarado, just a 2-mintue drive or a 7-minute walk (.4 miles). The ferry, which departs every hour and a half during the day, transports passengers to the historic Fort Morgan located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Just past the ferry is a popular boat launch on the island, where anglers launch their boats sunrise to sundown. Boat trailer parking for the boat launch can be tricky, especially during summer months, so Alvarado’s close proximity to the launch makes it an ideal location for anglers because of the extended boat parking offered to guests. Each unit can accommodate one boat trailer in addition to their parking.
The Dauphin Island Estuarium, an aquarium that is home to more than 100 different species of native Alabama marine life, and the historic Fort Gaines, where you can find guided tours of the 1821 fort that protected Mobile Bay during the Civil War, are both located within one mile of the property as well. There are three public beaches on Dauphin Island — the East End Public Beach, Bienville Beach and the West End Public Beach. The closest beach access to Alvarado is the East End Beach, which a little more than a mile away from Alvarado past Fort Gaines (a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk).
With the almost dozen restaurants and snack bars on the island, there’s no shortage of local fare and fresh seafood. Almost every menu on the island serves up the freshest seafood in the South, including freshly caught snapper, grouper, oysters and crab. During the summer there are outdoor movies shown on the West End of the island, and the Dauphin Island Fishing Rodeo during July brings more than 75,000 spectators to the island for a weekend of fun and sports fishing.
Even though the island is small (it’s only 14 miles long and less than 2 miles wide or less, in some areas), it offers an endless amount of activities for vacationers, including an 18-hole golf course and endless water activities. Boat, jet ski, stand-up-paddleboard and kayak rentals are available, as well as sunset cruises and beach access to most of the 17 miles of powder, white sand beaches that wrap around the island. These offerings, in addition to deep-sea fishing and diving, make this Gulf Coast sanctuary one of the top destinations for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Gulf.
We hope you enjoy your stay at Alvarado and enjoy exploring the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast during your visit!

Perfect spot to stay and explore Dauphin Is. Thank You!

The condo was absolutely perfect for a two night stay with my adult daughter and her dog. A short easy drive to the East beach and, if you are not familiar with the island, the drive to the restaurants is easy too. They are located in a quiet area and everything was clean and comfortable. The second night there were renters above us and you can definitely hear the walking. If we rented again, the only thing I’d change is I would select an upstairs condo.

Overall, our stay was great! The property is not on the beach or within walking distance, but the drive to the beach is short. It’s located on the east end of the island and a very short drive to east end beach, which is nice and not very crowded. Also, everything was very clean and organized well.
My only gripe about this place is that you can hear the upstairs neighbors walking. Actually, when our upstairs neighbors walked normal, it was fine. But they had small kids who like to run a lot, so we could hear them often.

While the cleanliness & location were amazing, the outside property needed some help. This is NOT elderly friendly or anyone who has balance, walking issues. The “walkway” from the parking area to the door and the back patio were pavers and were EXTREMELY un-level. The outdoor table couldn’t even sit on all 4 legs. Also, if you are on a bottom floor you can hear everything the upstairs people are doing. Every bump, step, noise. Same with the neighbors on the bottom floor but it was voices. It woke us up most mornings. We were not given the correct wifi information for this unit because I noticed “Alvarado 5B” as an option for wifi but was never given a password & the username they gave us was not even listed. Lastly do not sleep in the bunk room unless you are a child because that mattress has zero cushion. It was a spring mattress and was extremely uncomfortable. Overall, cleanliness, stocked supplies/appliances and the location to the aquarium, beach, and campground were amazing. Probably wouldn’t stay here again but that is purely because of noise of upstairs tenants and unleveled walkways and back patio.

We enjoyed how close this place was to multiple beaches. The listing was as described. It was quiet and clean! Would stay here again.

This property was bright, super clean and updated. Great location close to the ferry, and only a short drive to anywhere on Dauphin Island.

This apartment (1 of 4) was very conveniently located on the island. Place was remodeled in a cute style. The beds however were not comfortable. To soft for my taste. Kitchen had everything needed. Maintenance was called and they came promptly. For the price was a very good place to stay.

I liked that the property was so close to the ferry and Aquarium and Fort. It was a nice neighborhood to walk my dog with beautiful views of the water very nearby. I was in the lower right side unit and the layout was convenient. I did hear footsteps of tenants in the unit above me. There are few issues with damage to the flooring in the kitchen and under a couple of the kitchen cabinets which was unexpected since the description read that it was newly remodeled a couple of years ago. Perhaps that is fixed by now. The beds are fairly comfortable and the decor is cute. My brother and sister-in-law visited me there for 3 days and the living area is nice for visiting.
The island is small and quaint and I enjoyed my visit for sure.

Nice clean place. Communication with Karin was quick and easy. Internet was spotty, but that was to be expected given the area. Great stay!

We loved everything about it. The only thing I’d recommend was maybe adding a couple more beach towels, we only had 2.

It's a great place to stay. and we had a great time on the island. It's just a few minutes drive to any of the beaches. One could even walk to the east end beach, but it was a little too hot for us to do that and we didn't want our pup to have to walk on hot asphalt that far. The condo had everything we needed. there's a washer and dryer available. There was even beach 'stuff' (floats, noodles, etc etc) we could have used, although we didn't. This is a four unit building with two units on top and two on bottom. If you need absolute silence then you might want to try to get one of the top units. In the lower unit we could hear when folks upstairs would walk around, but it wasn't so much as to be disturbing, but thought it worth mentioning. We would definitely stay here again!

We enjoyed our stay! Condo was clean and comfortable. Kids loved the bunk beds. We were able to save money by utilizing the grill, so that was a nice bonus. Would stay again!

Everything went smoothly from beginning to end. The location was perfect, within walking distance to the ferry, Fort Gaines, and the Sea Lab and Aquarium. When we needed to talk to someone about our stay, Karin was on the spot. We slept well, enjoyed our walks, and were as comfortable as we had hoped. We highly recommend this lodging.

It was very clean, nicely furnished and decorated. All the amenities we needed. The location was perfect for us as we brought our boat and the launch was less than half a mile away.
