About this house rental
The house is set in a fishing village that preserve its traditions
Various events take place, religious, sporting, musical.
In the streets at lunch time the grilled fish and the conviviality of the people make the taste of those who pass by.
The women wash their clothes in the public tank and dry the clothes on the strands giving a festive air to the place.
Located 100 meters away, Douro Marina with boats from around the world.
The ornithological nature park where you can observe several birds in their habitat, can walk for 10 minutes and is in the Douro estuary.
Typical restaurants, boat rentals, bicycles, water sports, gym and spa, Port wine cellars, river and sea beaches, ornithological natural park. All right in front of Porto, 10 minutes from the bustling downtown. You can reach Porto in many ways. In Gaia Centro Histórico (3 Km on foot) you can also take the aerial lift Gaia near the Port Wine Cellars. From Gaia Historic Center and after crossing the river in Ponte D. Luis I is in Ribeira, the historic World Heritage center.
At the end of the street you can cross the river by boat (every 30 m). The boat ticket is 2 € (plus 1 € if you have a bike). Across the river you can take the bus (line 500), the tourist bus or the tram (Porto Tramway City Tour, line 1, every 30m).
Bus stop at the end of the street, in front of the river (Line 14 - Gaia Metro; Line 18 - Porto Boavista - Casa da Música; Line 27 - Porto Historic Center).
A 3 km walk on the river will take you to the Port Wine Cellars in Gaia Centro Histórico. After crossing Luís I Bridge you will be at Ribeira - Porto Centro Histórico. Keep going along the river to the pier side area of Gaia. There you will find shelves to secure the bikes so you can visit the Port wine cellars if you like.
You will see in the Douro river anchored picturesque Rabelo boats that in the past used to transport the wine from the Douro Valley north to the cellars of Porto in Gaia to be aged and bottled. There are also card / gift shops and a wide range of restaurants serving international and Portuguese cuisine. You can get on a cruise boat to the Douro River from here. At the end of the pier side avenue cross the Luis bridge and turn left onto Porto Ribeira. Once again you will find some very good typical Portuguese restaurants and cafes under the backdrop of old houses. If you still have the energy then cycle to Rua Mouzinho da Silveira to Avenida dos Aliados, which is the heart of the historic center.
You can get Andante tickets at the airport to use on the bus near the apartment, which will take you to Ribeira de Gaia or Porto or Avenida dos Aliados for good navigation radiating out of the center.
If you like old buildings, Porto has many, especially lining the steep banks of the Douro river. On the south bank, in Vila Nova de Gaia, you can visit the 'Porto' wine cellars for a piece of winemaking history, wine tasting and even shopping. .
The city of Porto is of great historical interest. In the Romanesque Cathedral (Se 'do Porto) D. John I of Portugal married D. Filipa de Lencastre, sister of King Henry IV of England and daughter of John Gaunt. The Portuguese-English alliance (Treaty of Windsor 1386) is the oldest registered military alliance in the world. Your son Infante D. Henry was born in 1394 in Porto, probably when the royal couple was living in the city, now a museum called Casa do Infante (Prince's House).
Porto was registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996.

Ribeira (pier side) in Porto and Gaia sides and its typical and modern restaurants.

This is a low key accommodation on the edge of Porto on the Afurada side if the river. It is in a quiet neighbourhood full of seafood restaurants. The nearest beach is a 15 walk away. The accommodation is adequate, safe, Maria the host is contactable and friendly. We loved it and are planning a return. Access to the city proper takes a bit of planning, but Uber is available and affordable.

Maria is a wonderful, friendly hostess. The apartment is a well-equipped efficiency one floor upstairs on a very narrow street. You can unload there, but free parking is less than a 5 min walk away. This apartment is located in a quiet corner of the Afurada section of Porto, an area that was historically home to fishermen. The attachment to the sea and fishing remains strong. There are many seafood restaurants in this small area. There is a bakery within a 3 min walk from the apartment for breakfast breads and pastries, including delicious pastels de nata. There are also 2 small food markets.
It's about a 2 km walk along the river to get to the area of Gaia where the port wine lodges are located, but if you don't want to walk, Uber is a good option. Uber is also a good option for fast transportation to central Porto. Bus service is also available, but it can be rather time consuming for tourists trying to maximize their sightseeing time.

Beautiful studio apartment!
Maria was a wonderful hostess who met us at the property to show us everything. The apartment was clean and close by to the river. We were pleasantly surprised by how close! Restaurants and shops nearby as well in the quaint village.

Quirky apartment in the heart of a Portuguese fishing village
This felt like the real Portugal to us, living amongst the locals, washing hanging out the windows on the narrow street, lovely local friendly cafe down the road and excellent restaurants near by. The apartment was well equipped and I liked the little extras such as washing powder and coffee extra. The shower was small but manageable and Maria could not have been more helpful. Porto is a wonderful city to visit and we would love to go back again

Fab little village
hi, we loved our stay here, the flat is as the pictures, the only thing if you had a bad leg is the stairs are steep. It has everything you need in it. We walked along the coast to the city in the morning instead of taking the bus , they both take about 30 mins and the walk much nicer. Then came home in the evening for a swim and local dinner, we loved so much will be back

Eight days in the Portuguese fishing village of Afurada
It was an extraordinary experience to spend a full week in the small fishing village of Afurada, across the Duoro river from Porto. My host, Maria, was always ready and willing to support my stay in every way. She even helped me to make an A4 printed ticket required by the European Union railway service, by driving herself to a nearby shopping mall where such a service could be provided. She was truly my guardian Angel!

Wonderful Studio Apartment in a Picture Perfect Fishing Villiage
This is a charming, convenient, and comfortable studio one flight up from an extremely pedestrian friendly neighborhood. It is a single block up from the Douro River.
There are numerous small shops right up the street. It is not an exaggeration to say there are 15 typical Portuguese restaurants within about a two block walk. They are simple and inexpensive, serving extremely fresh sea food. The beef and pork dishes are also delicious.
Maria is the host of the apartment and she was a delight to work with.

Maria - a Charming Host
Maria wants your stay to be memorable. She greets you on arrival and when you leave and checks in during your stay. This is an amazing neighbourhood for restaurants, bars and food shops. Close to Porto but still in a place..with the friendliest neighbours you would ever want to meet.

Best experience in Porto!
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights at Maria’s apartment in Vila Nova de Gaia. The location in a small village right next to the river was the best part of being in Porto. The restaurants are grilling fish just outside the door. Maria was just delightful and we thank her for sharing her wonderful property with us. If you want a more local experience this is it!

Plusieurs Resto a proximité ..

We had a great stay in the flat. Maria provide us a heartwarming welcome.
The only point that could have been better is that the single bed was not very comfortable.
We truly recommand Maria's flat.

Perfect home base, surrounded by sidewalk seafoods' grilling, accessible to old town Porto
We arrived before sundown and as we wove through the narrower streets with our rental car to locate Maria's home, we noticed the smoke in the air, and the smell of the ocean wafting from sidewalk open grills. We came for this! Fresh seafoods, simply grilled and no fancy dressing up. The community appeared welcoming of visitors. A neighbor walked us over to knock at her door. After unloading, we were directed to the public parking of the marina, few streets away. Immediately, we found a spot not far from the police station house. It proved to be a very accessible, free and safe place to park. Maria's place was immaculately clean with large windows, unique stonewalled wall, and a complete kitchen with basic supplies. Best of all, Maria was a warm and a fantastic host who was very accessible, helpful, communicative, before our arrival and during our stay. We enjoyed our stay at her home, the neighborhood, and hopefully, we get the chance to visit again in the future. Some tips for getting around: Take the boat from Maria's place to get across, then catch Bus #500 to town. Get off right at the Sao Bento (Train Station with the must see interior of legendary tile works). Right at the corner is a tourist Info desk for maps. Up the road, turn left to follow the road to Lello bookshop, and passing by an interesting canned sardines' store and several pastry shops. Getting back to Apurada at night, we discovered Uber for about 6 Euros. Dinner was always around the corner from Maria's home. Always grilled seafood, green salad, and boiled potatoes and we loved it.

Outstanding location, comfort and convenience
Every once and a while, I experience a rental place that I'm tempted to not tell people about, because it's that good and affordable, and I want to keep it to myself as much as possible.
Maria's 2nd floor studio in the Afurada neighborhood of Vila de Gaia, across from Porto, is that kind of place. It is just steps- as in around 35- from TWO riverfront restaurants, and the river is mere feet from there. If you love sea food, you'll love Afurada, which is were the fishing boats return with their daily catches.
The studio could not be more centrally located. Access to Porto is just a 2 Euro river ferry ride, around 100 yards from the studio. And river front Vila de Gaia and the port cellars is a 10 or 12 minutes walk along the river.
I took Ubers to the large shopping center twice, around 3 Euros each leg, but Maria will show you how to get places on two buses that stop half a block from your door.
The apartment itself is small yet feels spacious. Solid tile floor, stone walls and 10-foot ceilings. Two large eight foot windows with interior shutters allow you to darken or brighten the room. A kitchen set off by a "island" counter has everything you need to prepare your own meals.
The bathroom is small but well laid out- except for the small shower, which is a bit cramped. Sink, toilet, shelves were all good. The main room has a decent sized table that easily seats four or more. There a very comfortable leather couch that seats two,
The cable programming is the best I've seen in a rental in a while, with around 200 channels, including two good movie stations. No MSNBC or CNN that I could find, (and I didn't look for FOX).
Finally, the bed was a queen with a good enough mattress. It could use a couple extra pillows- there were just two.
I traveled solo this time around, but I'm bringing my girlfriend when I return to Porto/Gaia next year, and I will be staying here without a doubt.
Muito obrigado, Maria.

Lovely 2 week holiday in this delightful fishing village. Would love to return.
Maria’s apartment is in an ideal situation. Close to cafes, restaurants, the river boat which crosses the river to Porto and the bus stop is also a short distance from the apartment. The apartment itself is very clean and everything you need is supplied. Maria, the owner, is a charming lady and very helpful. Thank you, Maria.

Beautiful accomodation in a great location
Having completed the Portuguese Camino we were looking for accommodation to rest and recharge our batteries before our flight home - and this place was just what we needed. Our host was very friendly and helpful, she even helped us book our taxi to the airport for our return flight.

Fantastic.
Well located and well equipped studio flat. Everything you need is there and Maria is avert good hostess, very helpful. The flat is ideally situated for transport links into Porto. Afurada is a bustling but not too noisy village and it's surprising what can be found hidden among the streets. We found parking nearby and it's possible to park outside for loading and unloading.
