No service for trash, cleaning, or anything that we didn’t do ourselves. Told that they don’t pay well and can’t get help. We were there for 4 days.

Check in/out was very easy. One of the reasons my parents chose this location was because the website said there was a bar in the hotel. When we arrived there was a large sign for the bar on the actual Baymont street sign.
Once inside it was clear the bar had not been operational for a very long time. No big deal, we asked permission to sit at a table with our own beer and visit. We put our beer in the little mini fridge behind the bar (the bar had zero alcohol in it). A little girl 7/8 yrs old, was running in and out, it was clear that this was her playroom while grandma was working the counter. The little girl was A LOT. Then another person came in, friend/relative of counter person, while my step mom was getting our beer out of the fridge and starting yelling that she was not allowed behind the bar. Meanwhile the little girl is throwing toys by our heads, watching cartoons on the tv and swinging a pool cue around.
We left the bar area after the unpleasant conversation, went to our rooms and the first thing I see is a box elder bug on my pillow. Not a big deal, we are from a rural area and know they harmless. Other than that the room was nice and clean.
We don't want anyone to lose their jobs, but thought you should be aware of our treatment.
Our ages range from 55 - 73 yrs old so it is not like we were rowdy guests.

It makes me very sad to have to write this review. First of all, our card was charged before we even checked in. Upon check in the front desk attendant told us that the faucet on the hot tub was broken so don’t bother calling about it. You’d need a pliers to get it on. (We paid extra to have a hot tub in the room). The TV did not work at all. We were told too bad and that we would get a “nice discount”. The next day the TV still did not work and when we tried to use the hot tub the drain plug would not come up so we were unable to. The room was nasty. Stains and mold. When we checked out the staff was rude. We were told the GM would call us back and that never happened. We stayed here years ago and it was not like this. The place must have switched hands and gone WAY downhill. The whole place was super hot too. We didn’t take a chance on the breakfast because the state of the property was so bad you would not want to eat there. There are many other hotels in Dubuque that are better. Based on this experience we will never stay here again. This could have all been resolved without a bad review if our phone call had been returned.

There is no central air in the common areas of this hotel. My AC unit could not keep up in my room. The carpet in my room was filthy. There was one bar of soap that was meant to wash hands and bodies. The continental breakfast is from 6 to 9 AM, which seems like highly unusual hours for a breakfast. When I asked if I could take some dry cereal or some fruit, I was scolded away. Awful experience and would never stay again.

The front office clean friendly staff. Our room needed overall rehab like: carpeting, smell in bathroom, grout in tub (?black mold) and good painting. One night was okay not more.

The door would not shut all the way. There were bugs all over on the floor and we stayed for two nights and the housekeeper never came into our room to give us towels or cleaned the room. The place smelled like smoke really bad down the hallway

Mattress was comfortable, room was still in the 80's. Generally could use a good cleaning. Chairs were in condition that wondered if I wanted to even sit in it.
Cost was about the same as others in the area that were in much better condition. Breakfast was minable and not kept stocked.

Con: Smelled string of mildew in the rooms. Hallway didn"t smell though. Stayed there more than 8 years ago and same problem was the mildew smell. Mattress hard and pillows bad quality. Pool needs refinished and it was very cold.
Pro: Check in person nice, beds were clean, bathroom was clean but bottom of tub a little dirt stained. I did not see any bugs. Breakfast was ok. Fridge and microwave fine.
Would I stay again? No, mainly because of the mildew smell. It was a sleepable hotel though. But saved some money because the other hotel I usually stay at was 40 dollar more at least.

There was a spot on the ceiling, the front desk charged me to checkin early which maybe policy but I’ve never had to do that at other hotels. The lady at front desk was not overly helpful or friendly.

Worst thing was no elevator to the second floor so a little hard for 4 elderly ladies to get luggage up a flight of stair to our room.

The pool was older but the kids enjoyed it. The room was comfortable and reasonably priced. The bathroom had not been cleaned behind the door and the carpet was very stained.
Breakfast was good, The young lady who was there Saturday was phenomenal. There was no guide for tge tv channels. Getting clean towels was a issue. The housekeeping staff were sweet and very hard working. The front desk personnel were rude, but everyone has a bad day. There were newer cheaper options downtown. This is the third time I stayed at this hotel and I will seek other options in the future.
