Salthill Hotel sits right on the coast in Galway, a beautiful and great location. When we arrived, we were told that Hotels.com customers had to pay for parking, which was only €5, not too bad but a little annoying to be siloed because of where the booking originated.
We had three issues with our room. The first is that the room was far too hot, and there was no temperature control in the room. The window only opened a tiny slit, so there was virtually no air circulation and no way to make the room cooler. For a woman in menopause, this is an absolute disaster.
The bathroom didn't have a working exhaust fan either, so it fogged up and stayed that way. Once we showered, the bathroom was unusable for make-up or anything else because of the lack of ventilation.
When I went to blow dry my hair, the socket was located about 15 feet away from the only mirror, so I wasn't able to see what I was doing when drying my hair. Not sure why they didn't put a mirror near the socket?
The next morning, we had to leave rather early. We went to the lobby for breakfast and were told breakfast wasn't available until 8am on Sundays. So we went back upstairs to pack up and get on the road. When we came back downstairs, the breakfast area was open at 7:30! But we had already brushed teeth etc, so we just left.
For €230/night, the whole experience didn't sit well.

Very beautiful hotel. About 2 miles from the Latin quarter but a nice walk along the water. Of note, parking was not included when booked through hotels.com. You have to pay 5 euro for parking for 1 night

Rooms are tired and this place needs a good overhaul and soon. The bar is excellent. The barman also excellent but hes leaving soon. Staff are stressed and are very much overworked but managed to just about keep drinks and food going out. 5* for the staff. Breakfast was very good. This is firmly on the tourist map and we shared the breakfast room with 120 Americans with coaches outside every morning and every evening. Needs 20% more staff and the revamp of the rooms.

We had booked a double room however we were given a room with three beds in it which looked like a dormitory. When we asked for the room type we booked, we were told there were no other rooms available. When we said we weren't happy with the reason being that the hotel "overbooked" the rooms the reception staff said they'd speak to a manager. When we went down to reception the other staff member said he could offer us a "worse" room with no air con or view which we replied saying we didnt need air con and the original room had no view anyway. Upshot is, we got moved to a much nicer room despite there being no alternative rooms available. Funny that. Not a great check in experience. 1 out of the 4 reception staff was polite and helpful, the other 3 shouldn't be working in customer facing jobs in my opinion. Room was a bit tired and old fashioned but the facilities were good.

Staff were very friendly, food was great but the only complaint I have is where kids running around and kicking the bedroom doors especially my elderly parents bedroom door where they actually damaged the door plus it happened a few times. When we complained felt it wasn’t taken seriously. Plus a resident on our floor followed the 4 boys after kicking the doors and told front desk staff and they weren’t very worried about it or concerned. He felt they didn’t care. Another resident had kids and came running out to a few of the residents (including myself) in the hallway not happy this happened. Major problem going for need to have cameras on each floor.

Nice but dated property. The room had a distinct old smell which was uncomfortable. Spacious bedroom, but cramped toilet..

Its just an old and dated property, and our room was small and not that clean. I am sure there are much better places to stay in town.

Nice hotel! Excellent brunch at The Prom. Don’t miss it.
Easy access to Galway from the city bus stop just outside the hotel across from the sea walk. $1.90 one way fare to downtown Galway next to Eyre square. Never made it to the hotel pool, sauna, whirlpool, etc but will next time for sure. Just need a longer vacation!!!

For a 4 star hotel it didn’t have air conditioning, they gave small fan which was not powerful at all. The bedsheet felt very cheap, and would get dirty very quick. For the price the charge, expected better. Very disappointed.

This was a nice hotel in great location. I think the staff could be friendlier- the convenience of parking at the hotel and bus to center city was good!!

Great location. Bar men the star attraction of hotel. V efficient, polite & friendly. Overall service in hotel is average. Experienced slow service for 3 day stay in bar & restaurant from waiting staff. Very slow mode of pace - throughout. Leisure centre excellent.
Members of management could be much friendlier.

What a beautiful little spot to stay in and visit Galway! Front desk staff told us to use the transit system which brought us right to quay street! The views and walks along the bay were breathtaking! Breakfast was fantastic!

Perfect location, Great underground parking facilities including a great pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Staff are very friendly and garden walk at the hotel is beautiful. Highly recommend. One small criticism is that only one dressing gown and pair of slippers where provided but this takes nothing away from the enjoyable stay we had here and will definitely return in the near future.
