The rooms were in bad need of renovation. Fridge was iced up so badly it didn’t cool properly. The window unit had both AC and heat but the filters had not been cleaned in months or years. When we turned on the heat the stench and fumes from the dust being burned off was so bad we had to turn it off and open the door to the outside to get the smell out. There is no exhaust fan in the restroom and the enamel is worn off thr shower floor and sides. Thr photos shown for the listing upon which we booked were most likely from years ago and were of their largest unit and not their average regular rooms. The listing and front desk stated coffee would be available in the welcome center each day from 7 am to 11 however there wasn’t any coffee any morning of the five days we were there. Also, all the places I’ve stayed before housekeeping comes in the morning and your room is ready by mid afternoon but these folks don’t start until the afternoon so you can’t get back in your room until after 4 pm.

The check in was at a sister property down the street. We checked in after hours so there was no one to greet us, but the hotel left very detailed instructions on how to obtain the key. The room was clean and bed was fairly comfortable. The motel is located right next to the road so was some road noise. The motel was kind enough to provide nose plugs so that helped ease the road noise.

The good:
The beds were clean and comfortable enough. Most things in the room worked. The room was spacious and so was the bathroom with double vanities and a nice sized closet. There was a working refrigerator and microwave.
The cons.
There was a mystery door in our room to the office.
There was no wifi available to us. We were in the room next to the office and we never could log into the wifi network.
The room was large, but there was no real place to relax. It was the bed or one of 3 kind of uncomfortable chairs, or two backless camp stools.
No table to sit at. An end table had been setup as a table between two chairs. Outside was a garden table and chairs that had been appropriated by the room next to us. Again, no table.
The shower is a tiny stall and the shower head is very low. I am not that tall.
Finally, the lobby. There is supposed to be a stocked coffee station with k-cups, etc. It was not. I had to request the coffees. Then when I got there a couple of hours later, 6 of the 10 pods they left had already been used. So I had to take 2-3 away so I could make coffee in the morning when we were leaving.
While we didn't spend oodles of time on property here, it would have been nicer if 1) wifi worked, 2) I didnt have to hoard coffee.
It was clean and did the job, but it could have been much better with a bit more attention.

Adorable little place. Our room was VERY spacious and worked out perfect for my son’s visit to Sul Ross (literally across the road). We had a quick one night stay but plan to go back. The a/c was a little tricky to turn on but we got it going and all was well.

This property was great for a quick one night trip. Bathroom was small, but the bed was comfortable.

Clean and functional. Great lounge area with coffee and snacks plus a table we used for take out dinner. Nice courtyard area that our dogs enjoyed. If you have a lot of luggage and two dogs get one of the bigger rooms.

I came back here specifically because I loved the pool so much, but this time it was closed all three days I was here, so I ended up wishing I’d stayed somewhere else.

A very unique experience. Quiet, and comfortable. No frills, but everything you need. I will stay here again for sure.

The Mav ! I loved my three day stay here while I explored Marfa and the Big Bend area. As a solo woman traveler, I found the Maverick Inn to be safe and secure, charming AF and my fave thing was being able to park so close to the door of my room. It was also a unique little adventure for my late check-in to get instructions at their sister hotel in a sealed envelope as if I was on a mission. [Just follow directions about check in and it is Easy!]
I swam in the pool which is kept clean and cooled myself down from the Texas heat.
It is a true old school motor court with retro vibes. I love unique stays and the MI has been my fave stay on my epic road trip. I hope to make it back to the area some day and will def stay here again. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to add that within a couple hours of me checking out I got a text that I had left behind my boots. DANGIT! They offered to ship them to me (on my dime which is fair) but my beloved boots will be reunited to me because the MI staff is THE BEST IN WEST TEXAS !!!!!!
If you need a cookie cutter hotel, skip this one, for it is eclectic and charming and One of Kind that you won't find anywhere else. And if you do stay, Take a Dip in the pool for it is refreshing AF and a fine place to hang out at the end of the day.
I'll be back!

Clean satisfactory rooms, wonderful pool and pool area with shade when needed, property has character (buildings, signage, lobby), price is reasonable. I’d definitely stay here again on a return visit to Alpine.

We were disappointed in this property. The room was smaller than expected based on the advertised photo, and the bathroom much smaller. The room comes with ear plugs to mitigate noises from the nearby highway and train track.
